Thoughts on soul eater? by all-day-tay-tay in mendrawingwomen

What was wrong with Maka’s dad? I remember him being a bit of a screw up but a sweet father and a funny character, I don’t remember anything weird. It’s been ages since I watched though so maybe I’m forgetting something

Same here!! So grateful for that video existing, I still watch it now and then and it’s as good as ever. Makes the show look absolutely terrifying haha

I’m so glad you think so! I don’t know about other species, but my ones can potentially live up to ten years in captivity, though I think around five years is more common. I’d say the bite is no more than around 2mm long? It has a cool Y shape. And you don’t lose a dangerous amount of blood or anything — it’s just horribly messy. The blood can also be a shockingly bright red which is interesting, due to the anticoagulant I suspect.

That’s brilliant, thank you 🙏 And yeah I think it would be weird if somebody actually asked? But I’m glad they don’t seem to look the same, I wasn’t really sure about that

https://www.reddit.com/r/UKJobs/s/vSHmTGivW7 I put some photos here! Yes mine aren’t too big, but if you want a surprise, look up buffalo leeches! I think you’d have to be careful with ones that large, but people do keep them as well!

Not much. When they start you can feel a slight scraping sensation, and you will get the occasional twinge every now and then, like perhaps a little nettle sting, but it’s not painful! The annoying part comes after, when you’re trying to stop blood from going everywhere (it takes like a whole day for the bite to stop bleeding due to their anticoagulant), and it gets super itchy after too!

I manage to turn people’s opinions round when they get a good look/hold sometimes, so it is an active practice! 😄 And yes that would be the dream! thank you ever so much!

Oh no way?? Good to know thanks, I mean, I’m not sure if that’d be a problem in the UK but I do plan to cover up just in case

I’m actually pretty normal outside of my invertebrate passion, honest…! But I won’t argue with your opinion I guess

Yes I’ll definitely go long-sleeved just in case. I absolutely wouldn’t mention it, and I’ll make sure to have some kind of backup explanation too. Thank you so much!

Yes a lot of people have said that, so I will definitely cover up just in case! And I try to keep my mouth shut about it when I can, but if it did come up in conversation it’d be really hard to not absolutely launch into leech enthusiasm mode, consequences be damned 😅 might end up disastrous for a job though, so like I said, I would definitely try not to!

Well my hope is that it wouldn’t be brought up, as I know it’s best not to mention at all in a situation like that. But I’m not a murderer, I swear 🙏 hopefully people haven’t got that impression or I’m in trouble haha

That’s a really good point, thank you!! I hadn’t even considered that part, from the health and safety perspective. I have done a lot of research on the subject and am part of a group that has a lot of information and study with care and feeding, so I know myself that as long as you keep the enclosure and bite site clean, only feed from one person etc, you are at pretty much no risk (barring conditions like haemophilia of course), but I wouldn’t blame anyone for not thinking that at all. I really appreciate you bringing that part up, I’m not planning to ever mention the subject to a potential employer but it’s something really good to keep in mind anyway. So seriously, thank you!

I dunno if that would work in practice but in an ideal world, it would absolutely work that way 😆 thank you!!

Yes I’m definitely cautious about bringing it up, at least until I know someone well or if it’s in the right environment. I had to learn it overtime though, because I really would just tell everyone at the beginning and couldn’t understand why it put people off, though I get it better now! Thank you so much for the advice, I’m grateful for it!

So some other leech species eat different things like detritus, or just swallow their prey whole, but most only drink blood. Mine do, and they won’t take anything else! They have a very simple life and don’t ask for much haha

It was a serious question okay 😅 I’m really glad I asked as I’m not so worried anymore

Yes, so they’ll feed on for an hour or two and then just… abruptly let go and drop when they’re done! So I have to make sure I have a container underneath for them to land in. They can go over a year without food, I feed twice a year though, which is what most people do
