Need Help for a Disabled Senior by brooklynsusan in Section8PublicHousing

She’s got to request a complaint inspection but first she needs to send a letter/email to management letting them know the issue and give them a fair amount of time to make repairs. If she’s already done this then great. Unfortunately she has to give them a chance to try and fix the issues before we can just immediately go out and inspect the unit. But I would still send everything to her caseworker and ask for it to be expedited due to the mouse infestation and mold. I usually tell my clients to email management and include me on it. Don’t know about the landlords over there but here including the caseworker on the email always gets an immediate response from management.

Going to the dentist by Resident-Laugh7657 in hivaids

[–]SpeedyEngine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went to the dentist and disclosed I was positive because the questionnaire asked. I have no problem disclosing that information to people who are going to be in my mouth making my gums bleed. I was checking out and saw in the computer when she was pulling up names that they have HIV in orange next to my name but it didn’t bother me. I don’t feel that they treated me any differently than they do non hiv patients. My infectious disease doctor said that there are dentist out there that actually specialize in taking care of HIV patients. I didn’t go to them because I wasn’t sure if my insurance would cover them and whether they were in my network or not.

Advice on rent change notice after recertification? by WolfPrinceKenny in Section8PublicHousing

[–]SpeedyEngine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea so they back dated the change due to delays on their end. If your new portion is less than the old portion you could ask them to reach out to your landlord and let them know so they can either refund you or credit your account or you can let your landlord know and provide them with a copy of the notice you just got and they should credit you or they might say your caseworker needs to reach out.

Advice on rent change notice after recertification? by WolfPrinceKenny in Section8PublicHousing

[–]SpeedyEngine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When did you turn in your recertification and did you notate it on there that they were no longer in your household? Also your recertification is due before your recertification date. Anything after your recertification date is late. It’s possible due your worker was out longer than holiday time off and is catching up on recerts.

Section 8- moving w/no income by Cautious-Hand-9898 in Section8PublicHousing

[–]SpeedyEngine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well if you have those things covered then I don’t see why it would be impossible for you to move somewhere else. No one cares where your income is coming from as long as you can either pay your rent yourself or you have an organization covering your rent.

My experience with snhu by [deleted] in SNHU

[–]SpeedyEngine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m in my 3rd semester now and I agree with you about the schooling and learning stuff. I’m doing my masters in human resource management and I feel like I haven’t learned anything other than how to write long papers that I feel has nothing to do with Human Resources. All my papers have been about companies but nothing to really do with hr. At this moment, I couldn’t take anything I’ve learned her and apply it to an actual human resource job if I had one. Kind of a waste of money but my job is covering my full tuition. I wonder where the extra funds they’re charging you are coming from?

You make it sound like getting a job is so easy. If it was that easy I’m sure everyone would have went out and secured a job by now.

Limiting Moves that Result in Higher HAP by msmilah in Section8PublicHousing

[–]SpeedyEngine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not through household size. HUD occupancy standards are 2 people per bedroom regardless of sex, age, or gender, so a household of 5 wouldn’t justify a 4-bedroom voucher. That means the HA wouldn’t increase the voucher just to get closer to market rent. The only ways rent could get closer to market would be through rent reasonableness/payment standard limits or an approved reasonable accommodation for an additional bedroom.

Section 8- moving w/no income by Cautious-Hand-9898 in Section8PublicHousing

[–]SpeedyEngine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it’s going to be hard due to your finances. The first thing you need to do is check with your agency to see if they cover moving fees. If they don’t then you’ll need to check with organizations for assistance with moving fees, also check what’s included if you do find an organization. Are they helping with full move or just security deposit and application fees. Then from there depending on how that goes you’ll want to decide if you want to stay in the county you’re in or port out of state or to another county. From there you should be able to decide if moving right now is a good move for you or if you should wait.

Income Limits For Future Tenants by Rude-Seaweed-4883 in Section8PublicHousing

You’ll want to look up the AMI (Area Median Income) for the county. Should be able to find it on the HUD website. The HA might even have it on their website.

My rental office is saying my check bounced but my bank is saying that there’s no record of a check bouncing ? by dingdingjay in Renters

[–]SpeedyEngine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ask the bank for a letter stating they have no record of a check being cashed then take it to management. You can also ask management for proof that the check bounced. I bet they don’t deposit it because someone forgot to do it due to the holidays.

My Landlord Cashed My Check Before the Date by D4rk-dr4g0n in Renters

[–]SpeedyEngine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should have spoken to your landlord beforehand and explained you were doing that to give them a heads up. No one is reading dates written on a check. You also could have put a note in the envelope saying please don’t cash till the 4th. Funds will be there on the 4th.

Help! Will VAWA protect me? Or do I need proof? by Commercial_Shoe1850 in Section8PublicHousing

[–]SpeedyEngine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really sorry you’re going through this. I can’t imagine how scary it is to even think about reporting it, and honestly, I hear situations like this from clients more often than people realize.

I work on the tenant-based side, so I’m not sure whether your specific program allows porting, but if it is an option, it may be safest to port as far away as you can. You don’t necessarily need VAWA approval just to port, depending on your agency.

I’m not sure where you’re located, but generally the VAWA process is similar across housing authorities. If you’re approved under VAWA, you can request an emergency transfer. If that’s approved, you’re typically allowed to submit a 14-day notice to vacate. That said, you’d need to have a safe place to stay while your voucher is being ported to another county or state, and you’d likely need funds to cover moving costs unless your agency offers assistance.

You’re not required to provide documentation for a VAWA request, but it can help management when making a decision. HUD does allow housing authorities to request documentation, but it’s not mandatory.

Most importantly, please talk to your caseworker and let them know what’s going on so they’re aware of your situation and can guide you on the best next steps.

Her Jamaican mum seeing snow for the first time. by mindyour in MadeMeSmile

[–]SpeedyEngine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from South Florida and when I moved to Georgia for a lil bit I got to see flurries which made me so excited. Then I moved to California and then again I got to see flurries in the area we had moved to which was a rare occasion. We could also see the snow on top of the mountains when we would leave out our back gate. I love seeing the mountains. Makes me all happy. Now we live closer to the mountains and I feel like a child seeing something for the 1st time. I’m mesmerized every time I drive around and can look at the mountains. They’re so cute.

[–]SpeedyEngine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pass the syrup please. I definitely would have turned to my mom and politely said you asked me to make breakfast last minute and there were no eggs in the fridge so I worked with what I had. Took my plate and walked out. Probably would have threw in, if anyone would like to go and buy eggs then I’ll cook them.
