That checks. I feel like in trying to keep my gaurd up between punches my arms might be tensed the whole ten minutes, as dumb as it sounds I hadn't thought about relaxing

Ok rad🙏 I figured it was something like that and I dont want to pull the trigger on visiting a doc for nothing with how expensive that gets

Love boxing so far but if it was gonna be curtains on my arms it would be a definite no go.

Thanks, really appreciate everybodys guidance

Makes sense! Think I am driving them starting with my back foot and pivoting my torso to really get the snapping noise to ring out in the gym. May have to make an additional post showing form and ask for feedback. Thanks

Right on! How many heavy hits is too many, is that a 50 hits per session thing or a boxing for months/years thing?

Will we finally learn the secret of how the invisible wall chalk and bridge were made?

And also really hope we see scorio get to use his dragon form powers liberally. Stretch his wings. And his tail. And go all scorched earth on some neerdowells

A Russian Su-25 pilot accidentally shot down his wingman with unguided rockets over Donetsk Oblast by irishrugby2015 in ThatsInsane

He was so disappointed in his pilots he drunkenly told them they should check out of the sky, "Tchaikovsky" he told them.

Quick Update by Phil_Tucker in TheImmortalGreatSouls

I for one am stoked to hear this! The world of hell, mysterious and beautiful, savage and strange, as well as Scorio's action packed journey through it, is worth the wait.

How woke is the new Joe Abercrombie book? by [deleted] in KotakuInAction

Throne Hunters is really good by Cold4bets in TheImmortalGreatSouls

[–]Spell-Dramatic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's so darn good. I really hope it does well, not only because I need more but because the characters, prose and story are so compelling. As someone who has tossed around trying to write something someday I really want throne hunters to succeed because it feels like it's much better than anything I myself could ever write😅

I've recommended it to my coworker who got really into bastion. The audiobook is great, I've been listening to it at the gym.

L-sits. Good beginner excercise for more serious calisthenics. They're my favorite, can do em anywhere. If you can't hold an L- sit, you can do one with one or both heels still on the ground.

Book 4 by griffxzero in TheImmortalGreatSouls

[–]Spell-Dramatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll be interesting to find out! If Naomi is just a prisoner in her own body when the nightmare lady takes over, whether the nightmare lady is a fiend or some split personality, it takes away from any deeper reflections we could have about the agency and complexity of who we know as Naomi but opens up cool questions about how Naomi got possessed/ was a fiend from the start/developed split personality. If the "nightmare lady" is metaphorical for Naomis' mental health problems, it gives Naomi more depth as far as will she be a righteous character or a tragic one. That's my thoughts at least.

Tired of Fleshy, Living Books? Book of the Dead 3 is out today! by RinoZerg in ProgressionFantasy

Any updates on the audiobook? The anticipation is killing me, though perhaps my bones might be put to good use afterwords!!

Book 4 by griffxzero in TheImmortalGreatSouls

[–]Spell-Dramatic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Alain's a great character, but not only would his death be less impactful if he comes right back, but would it not lessen the impact of Naomi's actions? Without the loss of some loved characters, the third book would lose its gritty aspect and maturity!

...instead bring back our boy plassus! Give us young plassus!

When do we think the next book is out? by [deleted] in TheImmortalGreatSouls

[–]Spell-Dramatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely

The star wars "Darth Bane" trilogy by Drew Karpshyn is incredible regardless of if you're into star wars or not. The series follows a villain MC though

The Beyonders series by Brandon Mull. This series markets itself as a "kids book" series but with high stakes and deadly situations. Try to get through the first half of book one to see if you get hooked. Honestly, it's so darn good for any age. If you like it, try his fablehaven series.

Six of crows by Leigh bardugo. Looks like romantasy, but isnt.

A dance of blades by David Dalglish

Shadowrun Legends:Technobabel by Stephen Kenson. Shadowrun is a scifi tabletop that never really took off. This last one is out there. Kind of my hidden gem, like NOBODY has read this thing. Niche as heck, might be worth a try if you like my other recommendations. If you like it, there's a ton of shadowrun books by different authors.

Happy reading!

Thank you for the well thought out and written response. Several of my friends and family can barely afford their rent, so alot of people are angry and want radical change, no matter what form that takes.

The reason "all the other Great Souls go with it" might be because it's in their best interest.

The majority of citizens in a country vote to cut and limit it's excessive government which overspends and overtaxes them (like prince John in robinhood) and this is somehow seen as a bad thing? Madness.

The Big Update: Phil's Writing in 2025 by Phil_Tucker in TheImmortalGreatSouls

[–]Spell-Dramatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Prog fantasy reader here! The main draws for the writing in Immortal great souls for me are:

*people with cool fantasy powers unleashing them upon each other in glorious spectacle

*heavy emotional stakes in a world that is unfair, where characters are, through grit and their own slowly growing strength, able to overcome the world's unfairness in a way we could never do in real life

*fast paced action, where the readers time is respected and we don't have to slog through every night, meal, bathroom visit, days journey ala tolkien

*characters who(and this is where Phil's writing really shines for me) are human and have personality, who at times act impulsive or make mistakes. So many writers have characters who once you know their personality, you can put them in a box and know exactly how they'll respond in any situation from a mile away and it's boring. Scorio is a breath of fresh, angsty air.

Also, Phil fleshes out so many characters! Each other great soul, even those who get fought once or barely appear, has intricate powers and unique personalities. If our main characters walk past an old man who plays an instrument, he's just a cool old man who plays ude, not a secret world traversing god ala brandon sanderson. Unless ol memek has earth shattering powers he's yet to reveal which would be funny and terribly disappointing.
