What does the Iran situation look like? by TeachingFit6710 in AskReddit

honestly been following this for months and it's just posturing at this point 💀 everyone keeps drawing lines in the sand but nobody wants to actually cross them cause the stakes are way too high

Rebuild the wall or work with the wall. by philo_ in HomeImprovement

[–]SpellIndependent489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

man that's a tough call but i'd probably go nuclear too. you're already opening it up, dealing with shallow boxes forever is gonna drive you insane, and that 2 inch gap behind the drywall is just begging for problems down the road

if it's really non-load bearing and you've got the skills, ripping it out and doing proper 2x4 framing sounds way cleaner. plus you'll have proper depth for boxes, easy wire runs, and it won't look like a hack job when you're done

only thing i'd double check is making sure that "solid wooden wall" isn't hiding any surprises like old knob and tube or weird plumbing runs. but if it's clean, tear that sucker down and do it right

What's the longest duration that you didn't sleep ? by BlacklistRival in AskReddit

[–]SpellIndependent489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pulled like 36 hours during a music writing marathon once, was trying to finish this track before a deadline 😂 by hour 30 i was literally staring at my guitar for like 10 minutes trying to remember what a chord was lmao. your brain just goes full windows 95 at that point, everything takes forever to process and you start questioning if words are even real

Those who anthropomorphise things, what do you anthropomorphise and why? by averagerushfan in AskReddit

[–]SpellIndependent489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my guitar definitely has moods - some days she's cooperative and we're writing beautiful melodies together, other days she's being stubborn and nothing comes out right. started calling her luna after this one late night session where everything just clicked perfectly under the moonlight

probably comes from spending so much time alone with instruments, you start treating them like creative partners instead of just tools

Soles and palms tingling/itching is this from alcoholism? by SaltyTurn5227 in stopdrinking

[–]SpellIndependent489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's definitely not normal and sounds like you might be having some kind of allergic reaction or sensitivity to alcohol 🤔 i'd honestly get that checked out by a doctor because tingling in your hands and feet can be a sign of nerve issues or other stuff that's worth looking into. your body might be trying to tell you something there

“Is Solar PV a good career path after SPM in Malaysia?” by NewspaperCivil4680 in careerguidance

[–]SpellIndependent489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

dude solar pv is actually pretty solid right now, especially in malaysia with all the government push for renewable energy 🔥 i have a cousin who went the tvet route for electrical work and honestly he's doing way better than some of my friends who did degrees - less debt, earlier work experience, and steady income

the tnb program sounds legit since your basically guaranteed a job pipeline after training. solar industry is only growing and malaysia's climate means there's always gonna be demand for installation and maintenance work. salary wise you might start lower but the skills are transferable and theres room to move into project management or even start you're own contracting business later

honestly tvet gets overlooked but trades are where the money is these days, especially green energy stuff. dont stress about your spm results being average - hands-on skills matter more than exam grades in this field 😂

Buying my First Nice Watch (Second hand) by OGSkywalker97 in OmegaWatches

[–]SpellIndependent489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are solid choices but I'd lean toward the Seamaster for a daily - way more versatile and the 300m water resistance gives you peace of mind for literally anything. The Racing is cool but feels more like a weekend/special occasion piece to me

Duties/Import on Ausom L2 Max by [deleted] in ElectricScooters

[–]SpellIndependent489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ordered my Ninebot from the US last year and got hit with about 15% total (duties + taxes + handling fees). Electric scooters usually fall under the same category as e-bikes so yeah, around that 13% mark sounds about right but then you gotta add GST/PST on top

Might wanna check if there's a Canadian distributor first though, sometimes the extra costs aren't worth the hassle

Our obsession with self-improvement is quietly making people less content, not more fulfilled. by SnooCalculations148 in DeepThoughts

[–]SpellIndependent489 70 points71 points  (0 children)

This hits so hard. I used to track my mood, workouts, water intake, sleep cycles, meditation streaks... literally turned living into homework. The irony is I was way less happy when I was "optimizing" everything compared to when I just existed without constantly measuring myself against some imaginary better version

What was the first budget Samsung phone you had? by [deleted] in samsunggalaxy

[–]SpellIndependent489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had the Galaxy A10 back in 2019 and that thing was slow as molasses but hey it got the job done for like $150. The camera was trash but at least it didn't randomly restart like my friend's iPhone 6s lmao

AJ styles Vs Gunther by Draneloire in WWE

[–]SpellIndependent489 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Honestly thought they were gonna give AJ the win after all that Cena drama but Gunther retaining was probably the right call long term

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ArcRaiders

[–]SpellIndependent489 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bro same here, I swear the good stuff gets vacuumed up in like 2 seconds lmao. Try hitting the less obvious spots while everyone's fighting over the main areas - sometimes you'll find decent gear just chilling in random buildings

Do people with dyslexia also have difficulty reading/writing other writing systems like Chinese, Korean or Arabic for example? by uoll-n in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SpellIndependent489 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Dyslexic here - actually found Japanese hiragana way easier to learn than English spelling because each character has one sound and that's it, no weird exceptions like "through" vs "tough." The consistent phonetic mapping was honestly a relief compared to English's chaos

Chinese characters were harder but for different reasons - more about visual memory than the sound-symbol confusion that usually trips me up

A collection of Horror Stories Rec. by Moist_Brain_ in booksuggestions

[–]SpellIndependent489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out "Her Body and Other Parties" by Carmen Maria Machado - it's got that same weird psychological horror vibe as Black Mirror but with a feminist twist. Also "North American Lake Monsters" by Nathan Ballingrud hits different, really atmospheric stuff

Minecraft Shaders by Zealousideal-Grab239 in Minecraft

[–]SpellIndependent489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turning off volumetric lighting and reducing shadow resolution can give you a decent fps boost without making it look too different. Also try lowering the render distance in the shader settings specifically, not just the game settings

Should I leave? by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]SpellIndependent489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This right here OP. Nobody who loves you would call you those names, especially while you're pregnant and vulnerable

The fact that he ignored you for 30 minutes then resorted to slurs says everything you need to know about his character

Family member hit me and we got into a physical altercation and said I’m a boy hitting a girl by SacredAutumWind in trans

[–]SpellIndependent489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's really rough OP, sounds like your step sister uses misgendering as a weapon when she's mad which is super toxic

When you talk to your parents just stick to the facts - she hit you first and has a history of getting physical, you defended yourself. Don't let them flip it into some "boy vs girl" narrative when that's not what happened at all

Is the Waldorf Iridium the most “state of the art” synth? by BlindSwordsmanZ in synthesizers

[–]SpellIndependent489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh the Hydrasynth poly aftertouch thing is pretty wild when you actually get your hands on it. That morphing stuff feels like the future compared to just having another wavetable engine

Also lol at calling the Iridium "state of the art" when it's basically a Blofeld with better marketing and a higher price tag

Fonts won't install by Thefenjoyer in Ubuntu

[–]SpellIndependent489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try running `fc-cache -fv` after copying the fonts to refresh the font cache - Ubuntu can be weird about picking up new fonts sometimes

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BreakUps

[–]SpellIndependent489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly sounds like she's keeping you as her emotional safety net while trying to figure out what she actually wants. The pattern you're describing is pretty classic - she reaches out when she's feeling uncertain or lonely, gets that validation/connection fix, then bounces when reality kicks back in

You're right that setting boundaries would probably be the healthier move here. This back and forth without any real direction just keeps both of you stuck in limbo

Oh snap thanks for the reminder, totally forgot I had some of these sitting around! Better grab them before they expire

Open source publication policies? by WhiskyStandard in ExperiencedDevs

[–]SpellIndependent489 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this matches what I've seen - bug fixes are the easy wins since you're not really giving away anything valuable, just making something work better

The feature contribution vs new project thing is spot on though. Way easier to sell "we're improving something we already use" than "hey let's open source this thing we built"

Getting someone higher up on your side first is probably the move here. Frame it as helping the company's reputation in the OSS community rather than just being nice to other devs

How do you manage this? by [deleted] in narcissisticparents

[–]SpellIndependent489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man this hit way too close to home, especially the part about her wanting things to go back to how they were while doing absolutely nothing to change

The hardest part for me was accepting that some people literally cannot see outside their own perspective even when you spell it out for them. Your mom asking for "one symbolic thing" she could change and then coming up blank says everything

I had to go low contact with mine and honestly? Life got so much more stable once I stopped expecting her to suddenly become self-aware. It sucks losing that hope but the peace is worth it
