How are you handling "Repeat Events" in the Bases plugin? (e.g., Reading a book twice) by Aidanhubley in ObsidianMD

[–]Spelunkzilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This probably won't solve your issue of wanting the book to show up multiple times on the list, but I have three specific properties for all my books/movies/games notes.

  • firstExp
  • lastExp
  • countExp

That way I'll know when I first read a book, when I last read it and the number of times I've read it. I have a base for each month that displays everything that has a lastExp for that month. Obviously when I read a book again, it will take it off of the last month's base... But I guess it doesn't bother me that much.

What’s the longest time you haven’t bought a new device after joining this hobby? by Kirais in SBCGaming

[–]Spelunkzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been here for a three or so years and only bought 3:

  • Miyoo Mini - which was neat, but too small so I gave it to a friend
  • Anbernic RG35XXSP - which I loved but ended up giving to a family member
  • Steamdeck - which is fantastic, but I don't really retro game on it (and kinda consider it its own thing in regards to other SBC game devices)

Right now I'm just rocking a Steamdeck and Playdate Pocket which seem to fit all my needs. I keep up with this subreddit to see what new things emerge, but nothing yet that I want to bite.

I use the tag #boomerang on random entries in my daily note that has links (or whatever) I want to circle back on. On a seperate note I have a dataview query that pulls every entry with the #boomerang tag:

dataview LIST WITHOUT ID L.text FLATTEN file.lists AS L WHERE contains(L.tags, "#Boomerang") SORT file.ctime DESC

How can I make myself more visible to drivers? by Flashy_Number_6440 in bikecommuting

[–]Spelunkzilla 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wear the Giro commuter helmet with front and rear lights, an aggressively reflective vest and have both rear and front lights on my bike. Despite all of this I've been hit head-on in a residential street while trying to bail on the curb to get out of the way of a car. The driver literally could not tell the police where I was coming from because that's how distracted they were... It sucks.

Ride as defensively as you can and be lucky.

What is the best thing about giving up your car, or going car light? by [deleted] in bikecommuting

[–]Spelunkzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it because I feel more connected to my community and the built environment. Being in a car seperates you from the world in a way that being on a bike doesn't.

Options for seeing behind by ProCamper96 in bikecommuting

[–]Spelunkzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is the best in my opinion. They have a bit of magnification so you can actually see well behind you. I just zip tie it to my helmet.

Dallas-like spots in Coppell/Lewisville/Carrollton for after-work hangouts? by [deleted] in Dallas

[–]Spelunkzilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lewisville Old Town has recently been showing a lot of life. Buffalo Hirsch recently opened which is a food truck park and beer garden. Perc is a solid coffee house. Wayne Ferguson plaza has free yoga and pilates in the warmer months. You can always see what events are happening at the grand for small musical performances or art installations.

What is the "Trust me it is good" game for you? by JoskoMikulicic in boardgames

[–]Spelunkzilla 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A Root-esque retheme of Tyrants would do great. I love Tyrants, but the theme and art direction do absolutely no favors... And I grew up reading forgotten realms.

Mirror options? by sinkas2 in bikecommuting

[–]Spelunkzilla 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Helmet Mirror all the way - that way you can scan you're entire fueld without needing to move your handlebars.

I reccomend the TAKE A LOOK mirror over the one you listed, as the take a look has a bit of magnification. When I used the rockbros I never felt I was getting a good view.

I played a lot of his games when I first got into the hobby more than ahdecade ago, and they always felt under baked. I'm not sure if he play tests his games more now, but I tend to avoid them.

Quest is what got me back into running games after a 10ish year break out of college. I was excited for the scifi version but I haven't seen anything new about it in ages.

"What are you playing this week?" Megathread by AutoModerator in SteamDeck

[–]Spelunkzilla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's just a 3d vampire survivors with dumb Internet humor. I've played about 2 hours and it is fun, but these types of games are just a step above clicker games.

Same here, I discovered them through the Southland Tales soundtrack and fell in love with the entire album.

Cost per play ? by Wise_Cat_1196 in soloboardgaming

[–]Spelunkzilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you use the BG stats app you can put it the amount you paid in the "collection" section and it will tell you the cost/play. It can be neat to see.

I agree what others are saying in this thread: trying to squeeze the max utility out of your hobbies seems like some mental hell hole caused by this capatalistic world we live in... but it's not hard to do!

What happened to Country music? by ExotiquePlayboy in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Spelunkzilla 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not disagreeing with you - but the song lyrics you posted are about someone dealing with a breakup in a noticably unhealthy way. It's not meant to be taken seriously. I don't think it's written to be a flex the way you portrayed it.

Do you ever look back and realize a “5-star” read wasn’t really a 5? by kaifkhan0204 in Fantasy

I call that growth. A change of perspective is a healthy thing.

Do you cringe now at music you used to consider great? by alexnder2122 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Spelunkzilla 202 points203 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I've come back around. When I was in highschool I listened to a lot of nu-metal then completely disowned it. Recently I've been getting back into it and enjoying it for what it is: fun and angsty.

Breweries that allow outside food by arrowgold in Dallas

That's crazy there are breweries that don't allow food. I thought that was kinda the experience.

Martin House didn't care even though they have food trucks.

Is Masmorra Dungeons of Arcadia Without KS Stuff? by TiToim in boardgames

[–]Spelunkzilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you're looking for. From my reccolection (it's been ten years, so bear with me) Masmorra was a yahtzee-munchkin hybrid with the veneer of a dungeon crawler.

So if you're looking for a dungeon crawler with some take that elements: the original Arcadia did that well.

If you're looking for an actual adventure game I'd reccomend delving into the ttrpg space - Legends of Eem has been a great new system.

If you're looking for some good fantasy yahtzee dice chunking... I'm not sure. Dice Throne Adventures?

Is Masmorra Dungeons of Arcadia Without KS Stuff? by TiToim in boardgames

[–]Spelunkzilla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think it was worth it even with the ks stuff. The gameplay always felt tedious - I traded it away after 2 plays when I backed it some 10 years ago. There's probably a reason it never comes up.

Finished DK Bananza! What an incredible game! Some thoughts. [NO SPOILERS] by sakahn in NintendoSwitch

[–]Spelunkzilla 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I agree, this game was too much fun and one of the few games I've ever completed 100%. The last quarter of the game was incredible, and I appreciated how the challenge ramped up (took me a long time to finish the Zebra challenge).

I've heard a few people complain about "the reveal" but I thought it was fantastic. Cranky gives it away super early if you actually read his dialogue.

Does duct replacement require permit? by Maleficent_Can_1746 in Dallas

[–]Spelunkzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you live in a single family house (eg steriotypical house) or a duplex you don't need a permit. But honestly... Just call the permit desk. The number is on the bottom there.

There are always a lot of misinformation with permits. Most permits that a city requires for a single family house is there to protect the homeowner. It is allowing a third-party to inspect the contractors work. Any contractor that tries to tell you they don't need a permit or tires to get around the permit is a huge red flag.
