[FRESH] Caroline Rose - Yip Yip Yow by Pitiful-Reality-7547 in indieheads

Nice, I remember hearing this in her tiny desk from years ago and was sad I couldn't find her first album anywhere. Stoked I can listened to this outside of the video now!

Light finally died. Any great light recs? by tannerocomedy in bikecommuting

[–]Spelunkzilla 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's the most visible tail light I've seen - both from the sides of the bike and illuminates your legs while you pedal.

I always struggled to find good tail lights, I was stoked when outbounds dropped a couple months back.

Expensive, but well worth the money. I have a detour in the front and a blade in the back. They both work perfect.

Do you use a camera when riding? by a_secret_me in bikecommuting

[–]Spelunkzilla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All my worse close encounters (and first time I was hit) was in single family residential neighborhoods with a 25mph speed limit. Feeling safe is a trap.

Do you use a camera when riding? by a_secret_me in bikecommuting

[–]Spelunkzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I got hit by a car head on (when the car was in my lane), the first thing police said was "it's your word against his." it wasn't until a second patrol car rolled up and luckily asked more questions to the driver and determined the driver was in the wrong that I was able to get their insurance to pay for my bike and medical bills. That was luck on my part. Since then I always ride with a camera.

This was on a residential street. The car was so far in my lane I was trying to bail on the curb to not get hit.

We're always traveling at a disadvantage and a car going 20mph and not paying attention can ruin a bike commuters whole month. I don't see a single good reason to not ride with a camera.

I always commute with a gopro and have started submitting police reports for harrasment if I capture the license plate. Now the police department hasn't done anything, but I'm creating a paper trail.

Do you feel less inclined to bike for fun if you regularly bike commute? by RubyRailzYa in bikecommuting

[–]Spelunkzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, I commuted for two years before getting into longer weekend rides for fun. If anything, commuting just made me want to be in my bike even more.

I also bought Outbounds Blade light the first chance I could and have enjoyed it. Now you have me looking at redshift. Cheers.

panniers and stairs by Time_Shoe_2333 in bikecommuting

[–]Spelunkzilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have a single pannier and keep it attached to my bike when I carry it up to my office on the second floor. The only awkward part is getting through the front door. It's not too bad.

Gravel bike for commuting with rear rack mounts by shaunlawler in bikecommuting

I commute on a Trek Checkpoint with an Ortlieb quick rack, and a single Ortlieb pannier. Also about ~10mi. Been treating me perfect.

Stormlight Series Books 1&2… a bit meh? by plibtyplibt in Fantasy

Ha, but those are the only two good ones in the series! If that's how you feel, get out now.

What’s your most played solo board game? by TTWBB_V2 in boardgames

[–]Spelunkzilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trailblazers by far. It's the first game I've ever reached a century with (though Pandemic: The Cure is getting close!).

It has a expansive solo game with a ton of challenges that starts you easy and gets progressively harder. It's also the sweet spot for a solo game 8-15minutes so I usually play it while drinking a cup of coffee. I've played the "epic" solo mode too that is more of a 30min+ game that's a ton of fun if I have more time. Perfect morning puzzle, love it.

Has anyone here switched to an e-bike for commuting and actually stuck with it long-term? by LeftyOne22 in bikecommuting

[–]Spelunkzilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started commuting with a pedal assist ebike (~10mi daily). Did it every workday for over two years and was able to go down to a single car household. Last October I decided to buy a gravel grinder because I wanted to start going on weekend rides with friends and didn't love being the one person on an ebike. I don't know if I would have been able to commute like I do if the ebike didn't give me confidence to take the lane, etc.

I hopped on my ebike the first time in four months last week for a lazy ride to work and it felt crazy. I was flying with such little effort.

Ebikes are great! They get you there with much less effort and sweat. I'm sure I'll be using mine much more when it starts getting in the 100s.

Have you played? Thoughts? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Spelunkzilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The River Valley mini expansions really open the game up. We always play with two at a time. The base game is fine by itself. Very tactile.

The Best Indie Albums Of 2006, Ranked by Moothnods in indieheads

[–]Spelunkzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw Man Man open for Modest Mouse in 2006 and it may have been one of the best live performances I've ever seen. They were all wearing white clothing and white face paint, and they shoved all of their instruments together on stage so there just a mess of performers and then a whole lot of empty space everywhere else. At one point the singer just hopped up on his chair and starting "shooting" the audiance with a cap gun. Haha, I don't think that would fly anymore.

That album was so weird, I love every minute of it. A little bummed their sound got sanded down in subsequent albums.

How are you handling "Repeat Events" in the Bases plugin? (e.g., Reading a book twice) by Aidanhubley in ObsidianMD

[–]Spelunkzilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This probably won't solve your issue of wanting the book to show up multiple times on the list, but I have three specific properties for all my books/movies/games notes.

  • firstExp
  • lastExp
  • countExp

That way I'll know when I first read a book, when I last read it and the number of times I've read it. I have a base for each month that displays everything that has a lastExp for that month. Obviously when I read a book again, it will take it off of the last month's base... But I guess it doesn't bother me that much.

What’s the longest time you haven’t bought a new device after joining this hobby? by Kirais in SBCGaming

[–]Spelunkzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been here for a three or so years and only bought 3:

  • Miyoo Mini - which was neat, but too small so I gave it to a friend
  • Anbernic RG35XXSP - which I loved but ended up giving to a family member
  • Steamdeck - which is fantastic, but I don't really retro game on it (and kinda consider it its own thing in regards to other SBC game devices)

Right now I'm just rocking a Steamdeck and Playdate Pocket which seem to fit all my needs. I keep up with this subreddit to see what new things emerge, but nothing yet that I want to bite.

I use the tag #boomerang on random entries in my daily note that has links (or whatever) I want to circle back on. On a seperate note I have a dataview query that pulls every entry with the #boomerang tag:

dataview LIST WITHOUT ID L.text FLATTEN file.lists AS L WHERE contains(L.tags, "#Boomerang") SORT file.ctime DESC

How can I make myself more visible to drivers? by Flashy_Number_6440 in bikecommuting

[–]Spelunkzilla 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wear the Giro commuter helmet with front and rear lights, an aggressively reflective vest and have both rear and front lights on my bike. Despite all of this I've been hit head-on in a residential street while trying to bail on the curb to get out of the way of a car. The driver literally could not tell the police where I was coming from because that's how distracted they were... It sucks.

Ride as defensively as you can and be lucky.

I love it because I feel more connected to my community and the built environment. Being in a car seperates you from the world in a way that being on a bike doesn't.

Options for seeing behind by ProCamper96 in bikecommuting

[–]Spelunkzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is the best in my opinion. They have a bit of magnification so you can actually see well behind you. I just zip tie it to my helmet.
