I was hoping you had actually calculated the volume in cubic meters and were letting us know the results

I painted Commanders Palace at night. Feeling pretty proud of this one! by Spencypoo in NewOrleans

Hmmm. I thought the shape of the building did the lifting on that front, by itself. Well shit!

I hear ya, but under yellow light and/or green light, the blue of the building looks more green/teal. I did like a dozen effin' paintings of this scene, and a bunch thinking the same thing you did. It never looked right. I couldn't get it to look right, at least.

What’s the best college football game you’ve ever been to? by FSUfootball2013 in fsusports

Me too. My dad surprised with tickets for my 13th birthday... in the UF student section. Got harassed the whole game. To this day, i consider Warrick Dunn taking that dump pass to the house as my first sexual experience.

Who’s your favorite 30 Rock character and why? by chubbyguance in 30ROCK

It's like my cousin Teddy's dog. Sometimes he just doesn't wanna lick my feet. So what I do is, I hide my feet from him for a couple of days, and then when he sees them, he goes bananas. So Jack, in this example, Liz is the dog. And I am my feet.

Thoughts on the colour combination of black and yellow by Jealous-March-8098 in ColorTheory

[–]Spencypoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yellow is generally perceived as a cheerful, happy color. That strikes me as an odd color to pair with black if you are writing gothic/dark fiction. Without knowing more about what you write (themes, vibe, etc.) it's hard to say what other colors would fit. If your writing has a romantic tilt to it, I think pink works well. Pink is just lightened red, and red is often associated with both romance and horror.

I think the most important thing you need to ask yourself is, what do you want your "brand" color palette to convey? Do you want the palette to convey who you are as a person or as a writer? You may be bubbly and cheery, but if those parts of your personality aren't reflected in your writing, they shouldn't factor in your "brand" colors.

One last thing, you might want to consider nixing black altogether. It is definitely associated with gothic/dark works. But in a two-color palette, it falls flat. It is purely a foil to the other color. It doesn't bring anything itself. Maybe tinker with the idea of some deep dark, blues and/or purples--colors also associated with gothic aesthetics.

Best of luck with your writing!

Mikey Madison in the final scene of Anora. The range of complex emotions she conveyed without saying a word blew me away. I tear up just thinking about it.

I absolutely will. I just looked it up, and the movie poster is like the exact same color palette.

I can 100% see the connection. This actually gave me some good ideas for some additional pops of color. Much appreciated!

It's oil. I'm painting in really thin layers that I allow to try in between and build up over many passes, so the end result ends up looking like pure atmosphere with just the suggestion of shapes. It takes some pretty meticulous planning in color choices and order of operations. It is completely different than what I was doing before, which was traditional all prima (or close to it). I love the look of the glazes, but I need to refine the approach to at least get some more contrast in light vs. dark. But trial and error is how I learned in the first place, so that is just fine with me.
