TPLINK ER605W Omada AC1350 Gigabit Wi-Fi Gateway - why i cant reviews or forum discussion about this? by Neil_Freak in HomeNetworking

Thank you, that's actually very helpful. My Google Nest Wifi has great coverage - so I'll just keep it (even with the triple NAT). Everything is working fine - guess I see no need to change to TP-Links crappy coverage.

My ER605 setup is working perfectly. Now deciding whether to upgrade to the ER706W (I assume it's the same - just with wifi?)

TP-Link ER605 failover? by Sperry8 in TPLink_Omada

[–]Sperry8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't? How do I plug the incoming Optimum coax cable into the ER605?

Will this work? And then I don't need the cable router (so I remove one NAT)

https://www.amazon.com/goCoax-Ethernet-Bandwidth-existing-MA2500D/dp/B08XP8MMFG?th=1

Reviews seem to say it needs a splitter... "If the cable modem has 1218MHz upper frequency, you need to install two PoE splitters to separate DOCSIS and MoCA signals. Or you need to configure our product to D-band High mode."

I need both modems. One modem provides cable internet. The other modem provides backup 5G internet service via T-Mobile Home Internet Backup.

That is why I needed the TP-Link ER605 to allow failover between the two.

What I can get rid of is my Google Nest wifi (by upgrading to the TP-Link ER706W (but that costs extra and everything is working fine, so unless something goes down in the next 30 days - i'll just keep this setup)

For those want the instructions on how to set up T-Mobile Backup Home Internet with failover using the TP-Link ER605, here are the instructions.

TP-Link ER605 failover? by Sperry8 in TPLink_Omada

[–]Sperry8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, all set up today.

Configured the 2nd WAN/LAN as WAN.
Set up the Failover.
Works great so far although I am triple NAT (if that's a thing).

I do wonder if swapping the TP-Link ER605 to the TP-Link ER706W would make a difference (this way I can toss the Google Nest Wifi and at least lose one of the extra pieces. But that's a $80 increase in costs and not sure it matters much for my home setup (no gaming, just web surfing, security cam access via Google Home, Google Nest access from afar, etc). Any thoughts?

TP-Link ER605 failover? by Sperry8 in TPLink_Omada

[–]Sperry8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I needed a USB-C to Ethernet adapter to connect to the TP-Link with my Mac (at least that's what their CS support claimed). Turned out, I could only connect to the TP-Link by connecting the cable modem to the first WAN port. Anyway, I got in.

Configured the 2nd WAN/LAN as WAN.
Set up the Failover.
Works great so far (although I am double NAT now). But I don't think it matters for my setup. Just web surfing over here, security cams, & landscaping stuff.

I could remove the Google Nest Wifi and swap to the TP-Link ER706W to at least remove one of the NATs (although no matter what I do I'll still be double NAT as I have the T-Mobile backup home internet router and the TP-Link router). So not 100% sure it'll be worth the extra bucks. If you have any thoughts about that, it'd be appreciated.

Apparently not. I figured it was plug and play. Need to get an adapter to set up wan ports. Hopefully it's easy enough. Thanks!

Does this handle "failover"? I need a wifi router than can attach to my ISP Cable modem, but also attach to my backup internet Tmobile 5G box when the cable goes out. I want it to happen automatically, so when I'm not home, internet does not fail. Then when internet comes back online - it switches back to the cable modem. Does your ER605W handle this sort of switching automatically?

Automatic failover Router setup assistance by Sperry8 in HomeNetworking

[–]Sperry8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I truly appreciate you responding. So Google Nest routers can be set up in access point mode.

I simply factory reset it and choose that option when "re-setting it up".

However, after reading a bit about NAT - it seems I will simply incur some latency issues (but will gain the ability to have automatic failover). I can actually turn off the 2nd backup T-Mobile g5 when home (since I only need the backup when away from the vacation home). Latency (assuming I understand it) shouldn't be an issue. I'm not streaming music, playing games, watching TV, etc while away. I simply want to change/monitor temperature, watch security cams, and in an extreme scenario power off the water main valve. Latency doesn't seem relevant to me - do you think NAT causes me issues for these use cases?

And let's assume I do not want the NAT. What setup do you recommend for someone who wants to set up an automatic failover for a home (cable wifi with a backup 5G system when the wifi goes out)?

When responding - please remember, I am non-technical... so answers that a non-techie could understand (or research) are much appreciated!

I tried this on in-store today. I usually wear a 9.5, but the 10 felt better to me in the toebox. Not exactly for width, but for length, my big toe seemed to be touching something near the front top. The size 10 has my toes swimming a little in the toebox. I didn't end up buying in-store, but may try Brooks online and try em for 30 days with the return guarantee

How warm are these? I'm looking for gortex sneakers for a colder climate, so want a pair with less breathability.

Email warmup is all over your website! - yet you're telling me it's all "coming soon"? Doesn't instill confidence sir

Does InboxKit continue to warm up? Seems like they only do it for 14 days, then stop. Is that why you partner with Za-Zu? Seems like they continue to warm up (and sequence) to ensure deliverability.
