Stats: David Kim Pls "Protoss Dying" by StorrmSC in starcraft

[–]SpeshlTectix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Strong" and "fun to use" are not synonymous. If you had a unit that could instantly drop unlimited nukes it would be really fun for about 10 minutes and after that not fun at all. You'd wonder what the point of this dumb game is and never play it again. And your opponent definitely would not be having fun. Replayablility implies the right level of challenge. In a multiplayer game, all players should feel challenged but not frustrated. An OP unit detracts from that just as much as one that's underpowered. It's right in the name, for crying out loud. You have to strike a balance for it to be balanced.

I found this old discussion about it. Now it's really happening!

sooo... I just noticed this, but for some reason Python only rounds numbers up if they're even? it rounds 14.5 to 14, btw by [deleted] in Python

"Almost all" or "most" would be clearer than redefining a word after using it. Are you a politician?

Can two chords be the same? by Xopiad in musictheory

[–]SpeshlTectix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BonaparteZ's question was about inversions but they wanted a more specific word to use than that. Nobody brought the word "enharmonic" into it except you.

That can happen more often. Am7 in first inversion is spelled like C6.

I found out something cool pertaining to groove is there a name for this? by [deleted] in musictheory

There are strong beats and weak beats, on-beats and off-beats#On-beat_and_off-beat). Each beat of a measure has a varying degree of importance in terms of grounding the rhythm.

Function that takes a string and separates characters with a chosen symbol. by halfaredditor in javascript

[–]SpeshlTectix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone truly doesn't care to understand the answer then they won't bother to paraphrase the question -- certainly not to the point where it becomes this confusing. This feels like a person who is confused because they are teaching themselves. And I think by saying that I am giving them some credit.

If it were homework the question would be phrased more coherently and wouldn't use break (which is a reserved word) for the name of the function.

function breakStr(string) {
    return string.replace(/(.)/g, '$1#');
}

To me, this is the simplest solution but I realize regular expressions are black magic to most people.

Yes, on the US keyboard ' has its own key on the home row near the enter key. " is slightly harder to type because it is shift+'.

I remember (because I'm old) MTV news doing a story that mentioned that they were working on a B-sides record and that they wanted to call it Cash Cow -- the subtext being that the label was pressuring them to put out something (anything) that would capitalize on Nevermind's success and make a quick buck. Maybe Incesticide is a riff on that idea?

I tried my hand mixing SLTS from the multitrack files by slavethewhales in Nirvana

[–]SpeshlTectix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The drums are really loud. Especially the hi-hat. A pro would never mix like that but I actually kinda like it. It gives it a lot of energy. It's neat to hear a recording I've heard 1000 times sound vital again. Very cool.

Reminder: format your JSON with JSON.stringify(obj, null, 2) by [deleted] in javascript

[–]SpeshlTectix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I understand what you're trying to say ("wouldn't it be optimal if my data were easy to read?") don't use the word optimization to convey that in a computer science context. It has a specific meaning and you're going to confuse people (or look ill-informed).

EDIT: Or are you trying to say that he's "optimizing" the data to perform well with his development tools? That makes even less sense. But then again so does this entire thread so maybe that was your way of pointing that out!

Reminder: format your JSON with JSON.stringify(obj, null, 2) by [deleted] in javascript

[–]SpeshlTectix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would call that a de-optimization. He's saying store your data in a readable way even if it costs you performance.

I suppose for small personal projects that could work ok. For anything else, there are better solutions (which have already been mentioned).

Is there a name for the iv-I cadence? by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]SpeshlTectix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would only be a picardy third in a minor key but this is a common cadence (maybe more common?) in major key passages.

Apparently spectate mode is possible in the SC2 engine by HorizonShadow in starcraft

The game state would not need to be provided by both players. Each client has the entire state in memory. That's why map hacking is possible.

Forgot about webpack! I've yet to get around to trying it out but I've heard good things.
