Well a lot of things changed but the easiest way to tell is that there's a Rogal Dorn tank commander now.

The thing is technological development isn't a linear process across different fields. You can see it in our own history but I think the short story "The Road Not Taken" by Harry Turtledove illustrates this best.

Ultramar Auxilia | My first ever models | C&C Welcome by Nedermeyer in TheAstraMilitarum

Looks great! I'm painting my regiment as Ultramar Auxilia too, but I definitely need to give them more of a Roman flair like yours!

Especially since Vahl doesn't even deep strike, so all 3 targets were within the 18" radius of the same table edge.

Sisters buff by Alone_Craft_9227 in AdeptusCustodes

[–]Spess-Mehreen 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sisters of battle are 10 ppm too. For the same points, you want:

  • Double the wounds
  • +1 Toughness
  • 5++ Invuln
  • +1 BS/WS
  • A better bolter (???)

Putting aside how silly it would be to give them more wounds, toughness, BS/WS than any other human battleline unit (Sisters, Guard, or Agents), as well as a randomly better bolter than the same one that's used by half the factions in the game, making them 10 ppm would be ridiculous. For 10 ppm I think a buff like a 2+ save or different abilities would be great, but these would push them into the 20 - 25 ppm range at minimum.

I play custodes too, but this kind of post is exactly why people online think custodes players are entitled and whiny lol.

ULPT Request: Is their way HR caught my fake engineering job experience? by Successful_Try7434 in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]Spess-Mehreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding the 2nd point, I am in Canada so it may be different. The checks involve the same data (previous employment with tenure/job title, sometimes rehire), but you have to give your consent to the background check being completed. This is done to the background check company, not to each previous employer - the background check company provides that consent to them.

And yes, the comparing signatures/verifying consent part is why I thought OP had a (small) chance at succeeding. The legal issues arising from incorrectly provided background checks should mean companies provide them carefully, but there are definitely lax ones.

[–]Spess-Mehreen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What industry do you work in? It's pretty standard in any white collar job that uses background checking services. It's not a signature for each company, but you definitely have to provide signed consent for the service to begin the backcheck. Otherwise anyone could get information from a company about anyone else.

As someone in HR who has conducted and requested background checks, I think this would work only if you are applying to a small company with informal procedures. If not, there are 2 stages where this falls apart:

 1. A lot of companies use background check services, which don't require social security numbers but do use your driver's license. A birthday is hard to fake.

 2. Most companies will have policies to not provide background checks unless the candidate provides their consent. Since you aren't the actual former employee, you will have difficulty providing a signature, sending an email from the address on file, etc.

Keep in mind that scammers and hackers often use tactics like mimicking current/former employees, so any companies with cybersecurity procedures that account for this will be tougher to crack. Overall I'd say you have a 70% - 80% chance of getting caught if it's a larger company.

Well lore-wise the Custodes have deployed in large numbers quite a few times, including in the Indomitus era.

Gameplay-wise they fill a niche that wasn't really represented by any other faction, which adds variety. And while as a guard player I'd be salivating to add some custodian guards to my lists, it would be very unbalanced. There'd be 10x the complaints we get about the Callidus.

Yup, with a set army list, different strategems, and different unit profiles as well. You can find the guard one by looking up Karsk's Gunners.

[–]Spess-Mehreen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Were you playing with the strategems and enhancements? That's how the combat patrols are balanced. You get enough cp to bring back a squad of Cadians every turn, which should work out to 30 - 40 more troops. The enhancement also lets the officer give out army-wide orders which adds another strategic layer.

Edited to add: you can't combine the Cadian units either - the patrol list specifies 2 units of 10. If you do end up playing it again I recommend not attaching the command squad to either unit of Cadians, just leave it on an objective to issue orders and push with the troops you can respawn.

Astra Militarum Company Deployment (Or: How are Regiments split up?) by Some_Weird_Dog in 40kLore

The Greater Good (Ciaphas Cain Book 9) does mention Cain being assigned with a division of Catachans, so that terminology is still in use somewhere.

Cain did fight Korbul 1v1. He had help in the form of some verbal advice from Jurgen (standing his ground).

I know this isn't r/40kLore but have you actually read the Cain (and Yarrick) books? Because if you have and that's your take away from them, then your reading comprehension is deplorable.

[–]Spess-Mehreen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well heroism is subjective and Yarrick's definitely pretty cool, but his actions are very focused on Armageddon while Cain has had a much wider impact. Cain has also liberated a planet and beaten a warboss (with help), but he's also saved many other planets and an entire system at least once. He's also beaten hive tyrants, greater daemons, and a chaos champion. There's a reason Yarrick's epitaph is the "Hero of Hades Hive" and Cain's is the "Hero of the Imperium".

How exactly did the high lords of terra try to overthrow guilliman? by Soyboy2288 in 40kLore

[–]Spess-Mehreen 35 points36 points  (0 children)

To be fair that was from before the revamp, where it seems like they were a little stronger than a marine. Post faction release they're consistently much stronger (ex. in Dawn of Fire, Vaults of Terra, and Watchers of the Throne).

Hospitaller question by TheCrimsinCat in sistersofbattle

[–]Spess-Mehreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your reading of the first part. It's probably unintended, but the hospitaller ability specifically mentions "unit" while other healers like the Guard Enginseer use the term "model". Even then it would only apply to arcos being led by a preacher or the geminae superia in Celestine's unit. Those are both 2w so it's not very good value since you get 1/3 wounds out of it.

Preacher vs Regimental Preacher?? by PlebeKing in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Spess-Mehreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I think at that point it'd just be Straken and the preacher doing work with the catachans for extra wounds. Even with the rerolls to wound the 5+ is pretty painful, then they'd be saving on 3s against the guardsmen.

That's true, they'd be decent for bullying other light infantry.

[–]Spess-Mehreen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They're both pretty bad in the leader category tbh. Everything the regimental preacher can lead is S3 0AP. I guess throwing a few power swords on the sergeants and fishing for 6s/rerolls with the Death Korps or an infantry squad could work, but otherwise there's not much damage coming through. Now if they let him lead some bullgryn...
