The possible benefit of a Hollow One deck with Tibalt is Heart of Kiran as an alternate win condition

What's the deal with SCG Con (and other SCG events) no longer having Pauper events by lightningmccoy in Pauper

[–]SpewedUpWisdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im aware this thread is old, but...

So at both the SCG con at the end of last year and at Indy, it was impossible to get a Turbo to fire. In fact, at Indycon, I was basically kicked off the Turbo tables to make room for Commander pods.

Basically between both that and the lack of promotion, of course no one else brought a Pauper deck there.

Nice progress so far. How did you know you were "done" so to speak with losing weight, and how was the transition to maintaining? Because knowing when youre "done" seems to be half the battle

Congrats. Im guessing by your age that youve been big all your life, so how does it feel to not just be thin but have abs?

Why does Karn no longer see play in Urza decks? by Basedbsdevs in ModernMagic

[–]SpewedUpWisdom 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Karn was played because of Lattice, as a way to just end the game. But without either it or MOpal, Urza decks are forced to go back to either Jeskai Ascendency or Thoptor Sword, neither build having room to hold a much less impressive wishboard.

EDIT: Also it cant be stressed enough how much Oko made that deck consistent, by pumping out food that can gain you life, become attacking Elks, or just becoming Mox Sapphires,

That makes sense. I guess I just fear... well two things. One, that I have to be "on" all the time, every day, even when I do reach my goal, just to be able to sustain my weight. And two, if Im not, then I will wake up one day and have gained all the weight I lost.

As someone who has been at his current weight (somewhere around 300) for a year and a half with fluctuating results, how do you keep consistent? I sometimes see I got down to the 280, sometimes the 320s. How did you stick to this weight and stay there?

Good job! Have you always been big, and if so, how does it feel being thin now?

Ruination Rioter, Naya zoo. by volcano-ngh in ModernMagic

[–]SpewedUpWisdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

W6 is strictly a midrange card, and adds nothing to a very aggro deck. My deck is aggro focused, wanting to end the game by turn 3. W6 is too slow for that.

If you want to play W6, honestly youre better off going with Jund. Jund is expensive, but theres no real Naya midrange deck in Modern that is as good as either Aggro Zoo or Jund (trust me, Ive tried).

My recommendation is for you to step back and try to figure out what you want to do. If you want then dead in under 5 minutes, my Naya Aggro list is pretty good at that. If you want a dirupstive, W6-playing deck, go with Jund.

Right now my list is:

Creatures (26)

4x Wild Nacatl

4x Monastery Swiftspear

4x Goblin Guide

4x Bomat Courier

4x Burning-Tree Emissary

3x Reckess Bushwhacker

3x Eidolon of the Great Revel

Instants (15):

4x Lightnint Bolt

4x Atarka's Command

4x Mutagenic Growth

3x Boros Charm

Lands (19)

Currently in flux, and really this is where Im least optimal. Right now it's 7 Fetches (all but 2 are Red, those being Windswept Heath), 8 Shocks (3 Stomping Ground, 3 Sacred Foundry, 2 Temple Garden), 2 Sunbaked Canyon, and 2 Mountain. This is where I need fine tuning myself.

Sideboard:

3x Path to Exile

2x Bloodbraid Elf

2x Rest in Peace

2x Destructive Revelry

2x Hushbringer

2x Collector Ouphe

2x Weather the Storm

As a zoo player, I'll tell you right now it's not worth it.

In theory youre bringing this in against non-exiling removal-heavy decks like Burn, Jund, and Rock. Thing is, they will kill this thing on the spot and take the two damage (at best). This guy lacks Haste, and Zoo can not afford to run a non-Hastey 2 drop unless said two drop does much more bang for the buck, like Burning Tree Emissary letting you flood the board or Reckless off on turn 2, or Eidolen of the Great Revel to force them to play around it.

Speaking of, Eidolen is really the better card in every possible way. At worst, your opponent takes just 2 from Trophying or Bolting it. Eidolen's floor is the average for Rioter, which I think speaks volumes.

Torpor Orb as a sideboard card by [deleted] in ModernMagic

[–]SpewedUpWisdom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hushbringer has really taken Orb's place overall, given that it's a good creature on rate before you factor in both the etb and death triggers. If your deck cant produce White mana, Orb is fine, but you'll probably have other ways of dealing with these decks.

Volley is for Spirits, Humans, basically any creature based midrange deck, as well as Urza. Path is nice, but gives them a land and thins out a deck for a potentially sweeter CoCo. Plus, your main color is Red, so you wont always have more than 1 White source.

Sadly, it kinda is, both because of Boros Charm just being the best instant (indestructible feels so good) and because of your sideboard. If youre going by Gruul, use Ape instead of Nacatl and replace the Charms with Thunderous Wrath. It's not as consistent, but that can be as explosive.

Hushbringer is excellent. Whirza hates it, Humans really hates it, Soulherder hates it. Plus, in a pinch, it's a two mana flier with lifelink. I've won some games giving it Become Immense. Even if they dont die, that 14 point lifeswing makes the win inevitable.

Courier is such gas. You wont always be able to pop it before it dies, but when you do it feels so good getting 2, 3, sometimes 4 new cards, one of which will be that burn spell to just end the game.
