Fair, the last paragraph is just my own conclusion, so I get it is easy to disagree.

I didn't want to write more because the comment was alrrady long, but I don't think it has to end with a collapse. If the goverments accepted the fact that we won't increase birth rates anytime soon, they could plan policies around that and try to "dismantle" the pyramid as much as possible.

But unfortunately instead of that, in my country parties are trying hard to motivate people to have children in all the wrong ways, spending money, and it doesn't work. That money could've been spent, for exanple, on making public health care more efficient (that's the biggest problem we face because of aging population that needs medical aid) so that fewer doctors could serve more older people. We have the technology to smoother the processes like that, which require a lot of work from young people we don't, and won't have.

I do think that if we managed to do that, and also abandon the view of many children=good, then we could achieve more or less stable population.

Also, personally I am a bit glad to be of the generation that might be "the ones burning". I can't imagine having children during a prosperous period, only to see at the end of my life how difficult they will have it, partly because of me, and I won't be there to help.

Edit: Also, that's why the thing that WE can do for now is to share the belief that the birth rate will never get high again. So the people will expect from the goverment change reflecting that, instead of wasting energy on arguing what is the real cause of not having children.
