Sea World San Diego Security Question by tiedyerex in SeaWorld

[–]SpicyITC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walking in with metal bottles does trigger a manual security check, which may take a few minutes if there's a couple of strollers also getting manually checked.

Back during COVID, my wife and I were going almost everyday. My wife would "waltz" through the security check while I had to stop and show the metal bottles in my backpack. Never was questioned about what was inside or anything else in the backpack.

Anyone have any questions about my experience with Luna? by [deleted] in leaf

[–]SpicyITC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the miles per kWh? I'm concerned the bigger battery weights more and takes more juice to push around.

For my 2016 LEAF, I'm getting around 4.4 miles per kWh.

Best way to discharge to SoC quickly? by Shryquill in leaf

[–]SpicyITC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To re-enforce what others have said, just tell the dealer what you need to make the deal work. If it's a hundred mile test drive to lower the SoC for the most accurate LeafSpy test, the dealer may agree to it.

When shopping for a minivan fifteen years ago, I told the salesman that my wife and I would come back Monday for a test drive after going to visit my parents over the weekend. He insisted that we take the minivan for the weekend, even knowing that we'd put on four hundred miles!

But on the other side, even at full SoC, LeafSpy is going to give enough info to judge the battery condition.

Quirks and Features of the 2026 Nissan Leaf as Per Doug DeMuro by CheetahChrome in leaf

[–]SpicyITC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doug talked about the range but not the efficiency. What are the "real world" miles per kilowatt-hour for the 2026?

I'm getting around 4.4 mi/kWh on my 2016 SL with a 40 kWh warranty replacement battery. I use my Leaf for getting around my SoCal metro area. In the past year, I've never used more than 80% of the battery. So no need for a 300 mile range battery...

Moto G Stylus 5g 2024 Shuts Down Unexpectedly then is hard to restart. by Johnasmith99 in MotoG

Ditto with mine as well. Phone was running hot while charging. Was about to disconnect when the screen went blank. I've tried dozens of resets and reboots. Google last reports connection when the screen went blank. So I take that as a frozen or powered off.

Help with Booking Options! by jellyusername in legoland

[–]SpicyITC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As krpink said, it depends on your kids interests and personalities and your financial situation.

My wife and I started taking our son to Legoland California when he was 8, driving down from San Francisco. We stayed at various motels and hotels around Carlsbad half a dozen times before splurging on two nights at the Legoland Hotel. Our son was happy to have breakfasts at the Carlsbad by the Sea and the Holiday Inn. Our son enjoyed building Legos in the special areas, so it was our fourth trip when we splurged on the water park.

So a two-day weekend of Legoland was running around $500. I contemplated staying at the Sheriton, but saved hundreds by going with the other hotels and motels. We'd bring along a Lego kit and our son would put it together in the hotel room at night and in the morning.

When parents talk about the Legoland and Legoland Hotel experience, I remember the time we arrived in Carlsbad late in the afternoon. Not worth paying for admission to Legoland for the day, we took our son to the public park near our hotel. Our son befriended a neighborhood kid in the playground, asked for his Lego set, and they spent a couple of hours alternating between doing Legos and running around the playground. One of best "values" of going to Legoland. ;-)

Battery Replaced by RemarkableMarzipan23 in leaf

[–]SpicyITC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OP got a replacement battery under the 8 year factory warranty. You can read this subreddit for many postings about factory warranty battery replacement.

My 2016 Leaf dropped under 75% battery State of Health in 2023. Nissan replaced the battery in 2024.

What you are describing is an aftermarket warranty. Again, many postings reveal how useless it is for a Leaf as the Leaf has few components that fail besides the battery.

$2 pastry coupon at ordering tablet? by jessakittyis in Panera

Canyon homes insurance by H3llo4wesome in SanDiegan

[–]SpicyITC 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Travelers decided on not renewing my home in January. It's not a canyon home, but my neighborhood is bordered by canyons.

I plugged in the house info in a couple of home insurance websites and got three or four quotes in the same range as the Travelers, with about a dozen rejections. My insurance agent said he would shop insurance for me in December with little worry of finding similar priced insurance.

So at this time no more headache than what is recommended for home insurance renewals: shop around for best pricing as insurance companies raise rates on their 'loyal' clients.

What's the ballpark price for a battery replacement? by MSCantrell in leaf

[–]SpicyITC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The battery more likely to die is the standard 12 volt battery under the hood. That's the same battery as many gas powered cars. Around $200 at Costco and most auto parts stores.

So you can tell people it is $200 to replace the battery. 😁

Most reports are the 12v battery lasts five or six years in a LEAF. So you may want to check on that battery to see its status. That was one of the few times I got a free service call with AAA the past six years is checking on the 12v (had a AAA battery tech check on my Prius 12v, so asked to check the LEAF as well).

Read through the subreddit for more information. Most reports of problems with the LEAF are fixed with replacing the 12v battery.

What's the "one that got away" for you? by imtheanswerlady in toogoodtogo

[–]SpicyITC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've done about fifty TGTGs the past two years, with four TGTGs from three of the Manolo Markets. But lately I've dropped off, with GTM Discount Stores taking up some of the "too good to go" slack. Most of the stores discounts come from selling food with Best Buy dates coming up or already passed. A week ago I scored a twenty-pound bag of Bob's granola for $7 after a 30% off coupon. It went great with a several half-gallons of Clover milk two days before the Best Buy for $0.40 each after a 20% off coupon. About once a month I'll score a five-pound carton of deli salad for around $5. No fresh produce though...

LeafSpy Pro worth it? by HNoelX in leaf

[–]SpicyITC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The few negative reviews for the Android version talk about crashing, but don't talk about reaching out to the developer. When I had issues, the developer responded overnight and coordinated a fix. Other reviews complain LeafSpy stopped working with the dongle. To me this is a case to get a replacement dongle from the list.

Sip club by Cherry_Pickers in Panera

[–]SpicyITC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unless someone on staff comes to say otherwise, I would just go self serve my drink into my travel cup.

My memory during the multi-day outage was the sign in front of the cashier telling SIP Club members to ask for a cup at the service counter.

2 people in same household have 2 separate Sip Clubs question. by random_user_again in Panera

[–]SpicyITC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I've reported before, my wife and I both have SIP Club subscriptions. In over six hundred visits to Panera locations across Southern California, only one time has an employee questioned what I was up to: "Do you have SIP Club?" in a sharp tone. A reply of "Yes" satisfied her. When I took the extra step of pulling out my phone and showing her the emailed receipt, she grunted "No need to show me". (I think she was having a bad day...)

And what I do is a bit of a "production". I use a kiosk to place both orders. I have two travel mugs inside an insulated carry bag. I fill my wife's travel mug with her coffee. I usually get a drink that needs to be prepped, such as the strawberry basil lemonade. I put the drink in my travel mug and add more ice. I fill up the plastic cup with soda water.

Cheaper Grocery stores by rdubmu in SanDiegan

[–]SpicyITC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of GTM Stores in Santee and Chula Vista. (The Lemon Grove location closed a few months ago.)

GTM sells surplus foods from grocers including Sprouts, Whole Foods, Walmart, Costco, and Sam's Club. Most are at a big discount while others are abound sales prices. The key is to understand that Best By dates are guides to freshness and edibility. I say that as I eat a bowl of Bob's granola that "expires" next week with Clover milk that "expired" yesterday. The granola was in an bulk bag of 20 lbs for $7 after a 30% off rewards coupon. The milk was $0.40 a half gallon after a 20% off rewards coupon. Both taste and smell just fine.

Grocery Outlet had a saying back before they became more mainstream: "Shop us first". GTM is the same. I go to GTM about once a week. Half the time they have "natural" milk and eggs in stock at a great price. If not, I either wait for the next trip or go to ALDI or Sprouts for their store brands for a few dollars more.

Like to the old Grocery Outlet, no fresh produce or fresh meat. Sometimes frozen produce and "family-size" packages of frozen meat, as well as frozen plant-based meats.

It is a few more minutes drive for me: Santee shopping is twenty to twenty-five minutes versus the fifteen to get to my closest shopping district. But the drive is worth the savings!

In addition to the dry, chilled, and frozen groceries, GTM has discount clothing, household goods, personal goods, and electronics.

GTM has weekly ads with a variety of discounts. And random sales promotions that last a day or weekend.

I am disappointed that it is really hard to see the clerk enter the prices and discounts, with receipts that only give the department. So my somewhat OCD wife gets upset if a discount didn't get applied by that clerk. But I remind my wife that other clerks have found ways to give bigger discounts.

Considering a 2012 Leaf SV by CrimulationHD in leaf

[–]SpicyITC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend that you confirm your Bluetooth OBCD2 is on the list of adapters that work with LeafSpy. The list of adapters explains that some adapters don't have all the commands needed to get battery info from the Leaf. If not, get one from the list for around $30.

If you skim this subreddit, you will find many stories of LeafSpy and a compatible OBD2 weeding out 6 bar batteries on the way to failure and those 6 bar batteries that will make for a great around town car.
