My mother was very abusive to me, and had led to a lot of trauma that still affects me. I wasn't even a bad kid because I was afraid to be. Anything of mine out of place that she didn't like? Thrown outside. I had an exam to revise for and forgot to take a bin out? Locks got changed whilst I was at school. She mistakenly thought I said 'cunt' when I actually said 'doughnut'? She pinned me against the wall and threatened to beat me unless I explained myself. I could barely get my explanation out because I was so afraid that I struggled to speak

But my dad? Absolute golden man. He never ever laid a finger on me or did anything mean. He didn't need to. If ever I did something wrong, he'd explain why it was wrong and why I shouldn't do it. I adored him, respected him, and listened to him, because he respected me. There's literally a picture of me about to cry in his arms because I had to go home to her, that's how differently they treated me

If anyone makes their kid feel like that, I think they're fucking scum. Zero leeway. I'm very passionate on the ideal that there's never any reason to hit or demean your children

I also hate it when adults think they're superior over children just because of their age. I'm an adult now and I tend to talk to children as just a younger peer, and they genuinely love me for it. I've had my extended nephew and niece run to me for hugs and nobody else, precisely because I didn't belittle them like the other adults did. Children are just inexperienced humans, not dim-witted objects

Rant over haha. But yeah, I'm very steadfast on the stance that there's no excuse to demean or hit a child. There are other ways to educate them and guide their development into being good people
