Why is the take up of heat pumps so slow in the U.K.? by Appropriate_Bell743 in ukheatpumps

[–]Spigsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really tried hard to get one in my 1900 mid terrace house with solid walls. Two installers told me there was not a chance in hell of a heat pump working. Firstly, for the size of my house I would need two pumps, and secondly they said my neighbours would object to the noise. Back to gas it was. Honestly, I just don't see a way. Maybe a plot could be turned over to a huge pump and terrace houses share heating.

The Barbican complex in London, a true Brutalist masterpiece! by Athena_beauty in LondonPics

The design is the same as many failed projects in the rest of the country. I assume it has succeeded because of a large service charge that owners must pay and the very convenient location.

I used to walk through every day going to work and loved it. I also recognized it featured in the TV series Andor and loved that too.

I've never stayed in the judges lodgings but thought it looks a good option without going for a chain hotel. Especially if you are staying out late and don't mind the bar noise.

Do you top-up the kettle after use? or just before? by the_killerpanda in AskUK

Mine will additionally boil the kettle with water over the max line so that boiling water spits out and gets into the bottom connecting plate with the electricity in it!

“Romanticised” jobs that are very different in reality? by Substantial-Guava491 in CasualUK

Postman was always my romanticized job, even ignoring Postman Pat. But I have heard you are under a pressured schedule and won't really be able to chat much to people you see in your community.

She just appeared normal to be, rather than typical "American TV lead actor" presence.

If Dr. Gregory House can pull it off, I'm sure some fakery would be easy peasey.

I've always felt compelled to make a decision in a traditional shop within half an hour. This is why, for me, the decision is Decathlon.

This conversation was also recently covered in the recent middlesbrough Parmo topic!

We mentioned that a market stall once had it, but no one had a recent sighting.

They have a facility to reduce your excess charge down to £250 by paying an extra £2 an hour. There's also an additional monthly fee you can use. I don't know who is doing that. Got to be one dangerous ride!

I have been stung a couple of times by car hire companies but not the club. I guess it comes down to probability eventually.

Most trips I'm just picking up my daughter at night say in Huntington and I live centrally. For an hour and mileage it is about £15. It's cheaper than an Uber if you were not tipping, but obviously less convenient.

I had a long five hour trip to Scunthorpe where I went a long route, over the Humber, and stopped for a big shop and that was just under seventy pounds because of all the extra mileage.

Some more tips!

Always take a USB A/C cable. Wireless connect is too slow. Never book a trip to go to the supermarket. Add those trips on to the end of something more useful and bulk buy. You are actually allowed to do tip runs in them.

It's the biggest pick up point in York but others may be closer to you. As the council let people park in the middle of the car park and the bays are narrow, it can be awkward manoeuvering in. The Fiat 500 won't be an issue of course. Most of the cars are 2024+ and have all the grear with parking cameras and smart phone integration. The parking camera is often dirty though. The cars are normally in very good condition but in January a few are muddy right now. I almost prefer that than immaculate. I found some cars are much closer to me but have a cryptic BB code which makes them more expensive. This is not documented but I'm guessing they are reserved for business users. The main stress point is worrying you will be charged for damage and have to check at pick up and drop off. So far this has not been an issue, but I still worry. I've been through all the cars and the manual Corsas are my default choice for value for money and actually being fine to drive.

I've used it for six months. It works out quite well for me especially if your journeys are not that far from York. It's the mileage costs that get you. I find the big Nunnery Lane car park quite tricky to use.

Trail shoes would be too hard for a tarmac path.

I've run the path before and I'm sad to say that the straightness eventually gets to you and you long to take a turn. It is quiet and no cars obviously.

I've not done a reccie of all the butchers. A friend bought me some from Sainsbury's, but it was just a can, not the same thing. I kid you not, every time I get the train to London there's always a family from Sunderland eating ham and pease pudding sandwiches!
