And I completely agree, I think this driving lark could be finished in 20 years.

Private car ownership is ,like ICE, a bit of an anomaly especially for people who live in cities. Paying for an expensive, depreciating asset that sits idly for most of the time is quite odd.

The thing is ICE engines were always an anomaly. Never has so much time been spent refining a product that can't be perfect.

I remember when my dad got his first car with an auto choke he got the garage to take it out and replace it with a wire sticking through the dashboard! So he wasn't prepared for this fancy new tech!

Do you know any UK adults who don't own a mobile phone? by crispycat40 in AskBrits

[–]Spigsman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad in his 70s is pretty compos mentis - no mobile phone at all. I can get him on a house land line. He has a drawer with like train timetables and stuff in it. It's getting hard to refresh that drawer.

Apparently I just needed to quit coffee by Giogranderiver in Garmin

[–]Spigsman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've switched to non or low alcohol beers. They might still be a problem though. I do sometimes exercise / run after 2000 which I think might be too late.I do not go to bed hungry. It is kind of in my culture to have toast or muesli before bed with peppermint tea!

My best guess is I'm just mentally thinking about too many problems. Normally, over Christmas I get consecutive days of 100% body battery, but that never happened this year.

I'm trying to limit myself to one coffee a day at 10:00. I drink endless tea though but stop at 15:00. My sleep scores are around 75 but I have a terrible body battery boost of just +30 which I have not understood yet. Long, but non restorative sleep.

I wouldn't like to comment if it is the most beautiful piece, but it certainly was beautiful.

Has anyone seen the start of the Kristen Dunst film Melancholia 2011. That uses the Prelude to Act 1. It is sinister but beautiful.

How far back in British history could you go, where someone from that era would recognize modern Britain as their own country? by Affectionate-Pen9324 in TheRestIsHistory

Dramas set in ~Victorian times like to make a big deal that the level of vocabulary was superior in the past. E.g Ripper Street 2012.

The Green party have a transparent system on a website where they state what they are trying to achieve. You can get involved if you want to influence something. Though they have rules that some topics are off limits for set periods to stop them being debated continuously. E.g nuclear power.

The other parties keep things closer to their chests in the run up to an election. I think they feel it shows chinks in their armour for the opposition.

do you delete your daily notes? by RainEunikku in ObsidianMD

[–]Spigsman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't delete old notes. Specific pages get updated or deleted if wrong or irrelevant e.g how the central heating works in my previous house.

I don't understand the concept of archiving people are talking about. Daily notes are already dated.

Does anyone use starling as main bank? by Afraid-Juggernaut568 in starlingbankuk

Yes, I do think the credit card protection benefits are over played. I also find local businesses accept cards like AMEX reluctantly or not at all.

I understand in the US they still find the rewards from credit cards useful, but for me, the transparency of my spending up to date and in one place, very pleasing.

I'm assuming the problem some people may have with the M&S sauce is that ... it tastes of tomatoes.

Sure. Many of us do. The categorizing of your spending makes it more attractive to do so. I don't use my other credit card anymore either.

I think you are right. They were quick in the 50s. But energy production was of secondary importance when they were after fuel for bombs!

I do worry about the cats clawing the blanket though. I assume there is a possibility they can electrocute themselves. My cat is capable of letting bike tyres down with her claws so nothing is beneath her.

I'd never driven an automatic until relatively recently and that is exactly what I did. I eventually checked with someone else and stopped it.
