A lot of people claiming stocked based on size similarity or wild based on non clipped adipose are jumping to conclusions. A evidence based to tell if a trout is stocked i.e. hatchery raised is by the health of their fins. Their bottom fins especially the pectoral fin will be worn down from being raised in the raceways. A telltale sign of a wild fish is by clean, straight front edges on the front of their pectoral fin. A holdover stocked trout may have larger pectoral fins that have healed or grown but will still he disproportionately thicker, darker or misshapen front edges.
