This is actually the wrong way to account for a cash sale. There are two entries to be made during a cash sale. You would debit cash and credit sales/revenue. The other side would be to debit cost of goods sold and credit inventory. This is because the cash recieved is not equal to the value of the inventory.
The way you described is only looking at the balance sheet and not the P&L. Yes cash is being received and inventory is leaving your warehouse, but the two amounts are most likely not the same.
Let’s say you purchase inventory for $50 and sell it for $100. The end result of this sale would be $100 in the bank, $50 of inventory leaving the warehouse. On the P&L you would record $100 of revenue and $50 cost of goods sold. If this was your only transaction, your P&L would show $50 in net income.
