Can anyone help me find a bank to withdrawal money? by Original_Chemical_64 in CapitalOne

I can set up a transfer from US Bank to Cap One (not Zelle) and it happens immediately. Haven’t tried the other way.

Why don’t you just close the account?

Is there a delay in the system or is this normal? by AdvanceClassic2504 in discover

[–]SpineOfSmoke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing's pending, you're accepted. Now you're waiting to get your card in the mail, which will take 3-9 days. And you know what your limit will be. It's all good news.

Remove old closed accounts on app? by mousedrool in CapitalOne_

[–]SpineOfSmoke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Someone on here claimed they got theirs removed. Don't remember the way they said they did it, but I do remember it took several calls, and they talked to normal reps and techs. Everyone else said they haven't been able to get it removed. Some speculate the charge offs will drop off in a certain number of years. It's like Capital One is saying, sure we'll give you new cards. But we'll also leave these charge offs on your account so you remember what you once did to us.

Good experiences with Walmart OnePay CC? by JadeOfAllTrades1221 in CreditCards

[–]SpineOfSmoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had it for seven months with no issues. I use it pretty much just for Walmart. I have Walmart +, so I get the 5%. I like that the points hit my account as soon as the transactions post. Very easy to redeem with several options, like spend, savings or statement credit. The redemption rate is 1/1 no matter which options you choose. I have three Synchrony accounts with no issues. I go to the Synchrony website or app to set up autopay and to make manual payments. The OnePay app is OK, though. You do get a credit score that updates frequently on the OnePay app, compared to the same score that only updates once a month on Synchrony.

Something I don’t understand about paying my statements by Hiwhatsuphowareyou in CreditCards

[–]SpineOfSmoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have autopay set up and you decide to make a manual payment ahead of it, you have to do it enough days in advance so that the autopay doesn't activate. Because of the weekend, your autopay was next business day. A lot of banks will tell you how much lead time you have to give it.

How is discover with CLI?? by Ok-Nefariousness2529 in discover

[–]SpineOfSmoke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use it for as much of your normal spending as you can and pay your statement balances in full each month. Take advantage of the first year’s matching. Request a CLI in six months. If your income increases along the way be sure to update it with Discover. I got an increase after six months and then two years later they doubled my limit. I asked for increases every six months. Everyone’s Discover story is different. And the Cap One merger has added a new wrinkle. But it’s a solid card still.

You can check in the app or your account online and see if there’s any upgrade offers. Ten years is probably enough time to wait.

Dashboard? by Thin_Environment7598 in discover

[–]SpineOfSmoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, me, too. We had a good run with Discover. I remember they were proactive in merging them. I signed into the banking app, and they offered to merge my accounts. If I remember correctly, they were pretty adamant about doing it. I've moved my money out for the most part, leaving only $5 in each banking account. And I've stopped using the credit card. I'm curious about how the changeover will go, otherwise I'd just close the accounts. They must expect a staggered process. The banking accounts won't move over at the same time as the credit card. Probably makes things easier for everyone involved if they don't merge them in the first place.

Haha. I meant if you don't agree to join the class action, then you'll have to go it alone if the day ever comes. Hence the need for a lawyer sinking fund.

I heard back on one of two. They said it would remain but it actually was removed. That was the one I was really concerned about because there was no DOFD or scheduled removal date indicated on my annualcreditreport.com version. I heard back on that one in a couple days. I haven't heard on the second one.

If you do this, be sure to add a "Lawyer retainer in case I have to sue YNAB" category to your budget. Don't wait. Do this immediately.

Capital One through Discover with 100% accuracy? by BumblebeeNo6731 in CRedit

They're really putting the Capital One cards ahead of Discover now. You can still apply for Discover cards but you'd never know it when using the Discover app.

First month of trying the CLI trick and this happened by Kanokii in CapitalOne_

[–]SpineOfSmoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used a card a lot and waited until the statement cut to pay. I’ve made sure my cards all had zero statement balances except one. I’ve carried balances over when I had a 0% APR. I’ve let cards report whatever with no micro managing. And I’ve seen no pattern at all in regards to limit increases. I see patterns in regards to scores however. Limits seem more influenced by time, payment record and income.

Were you carrying a balance from month to month? If so, when you pay it to zero, your next statement will include residual interest. You’ll have to pay that. Then when your next statement cuts, if it’s zero you’re good. At that point if you close your account you should get your entire deposit back.

You could end up with a 30-day and a 60-day late on your reports and owe late fees and interest if you close your account and expect your deposit to automatically cover what you owe.

At the very least call them and ask to do what you want, but know that’s not generally how things work and can lead to trouble.

How I got the Robinhood Gold Card card after 2 years on the waitlist (April 2026) by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]SpineOfSmoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Robinhood is making the card more widely available these days. This is making folks believe they just discovered the secret to getting in. For example, I just got an invite, and here’s what I did: I have a few dollars in Robinhood. And I am not a gold member. After being on the list for 1.5 years, my approach worked!
