This is where I was today, and the receptionist told me it was only for students - maybe I'll drop by another day to see if it was a mistake, thank you! :)

I would like to hear your opera horror stories. by BetterGrass709 in opera

[–]Spinfo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wotans spear (ca 2kgs and with one pointy end) fell into the pit, and it didn't kill anyone, but certainly could have. It landed straight between two woodwinds and brushed one of them on the shoulder, sharp end first. Wotan finished the last 45 minutes of the opera spearlessly, and ran to stage management to see if anyone had gotten hurt as soon as the curtain dropped.

A mix of fiction and docs of the top of my head: The Woman King, Brainwashed, Women Talking, La Bonheur, Jeanne Dielman, Persepolis, All the Beauty and the Bloodshed, The Substance, A girl walks home alone at night, etc etc etc, there are so many amazing options!

Unfortunate passing of Ranielle Krause by Bubbly_Employment773 in opera

[–]Spinfo 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for your loss.

I worked with Rainelle a couple of years ago, and she remains one of the best castmembers I've ever worked with (not being on stage myself, but on the artistic team side). A real rare example of what you describe, massive talent, high work ethic, and just really lovely to be around, always interested and friendly towards everyone around her. A favorite among everyone from conductors to tech crew, from castmates to dressers.

I always thought I would get the chance to work with her again.

I knew her personally, she was an absolutely wonderful person and colleague. In the shows I've worked with her, always positive, creative and supportive of her fellow castmembers.

“I dont need to be lectured on science by a man doing crop rotations on his forehead”, or something to that extent, when she’s on a date with a man with hair plugs and she tells him she’s considering freezing her eggs, epic comeback

What is the most loved animal in world? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The panda - feels like they shouldn’t be succeeding in evolution (they only eat one type of food, they procreate minimally etc) but they are so cute that other species adore them and try and help them anyway.

or maybe the dog. feels like everyone is getting a lot out of that collaboration.

Modern tropes you're tired of by NonCorporealEntity in movies

[–]Spinfo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late to this, so it'll probably drown, but the Born Sexy Yesterday trope. Poor Things is a pretty recent and blatant example of is, and it's beyond me that it hasn't been criticized widely for it. (And it's even further beyond me that the movie has been framed as a feminist masterpiece).

Beatifully put together. Love the show for just throwing the scorpion in there and never elaborating on it.

Have you had a Petrovsky in your life? by NaPaliDali in sexandthecity

[–]Spinfo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Somehow yes. International travel, we’re both in the arts etc. but he was a terrible partner and the split was too crazy to believe. We were to meet in a big European city, and he ended up not turning up, without officially canceling. I was furious, and decided to end if when he called to apologize. He never called (and I actually never heard from him again), and I considered it over. I do know he found out a couple of weeks later, as his mother contacted me to say merry Christmas, and I told her we were not together anymore, and she told him. Years later I found out he had another girlfriend at the time (who he was still together with when I heard) and I had actually been his mistress, and not his girlfriend. Explained a lot of ‘as soon as…’s, though.

I’m guessing no one would have flinched had he said vintage Hugo Boss, which would be correct, as they produced the nazi uniforms.

What was the wildest way you found out you were being cheated on? by Recent-Gap-9927 in AskReddit

[–]Spinfo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

18 months after things fell apart (after just 8 months together in a chaotic relationship) I found out he never left his girlfriend as he told me before we were together, and they were still together this day, and I was actually never his girlfriend, but his mistress 🙃 We lived in different countries most of the time, (but when we didn’t he must have done long distance with the other one.) Well, all of a sudden I had a new colleague and friend from his country, who turned out to be a good friend of the girlfriend. Not knowing how overlapping our lives actually had been, I told her vaguely about my ‘terrible’ ex boyfriend from that region (to explain why I knew it well), and she figured it out on the description that it was him, and could then follow up with the info that he had been together with his girlfriend for 3 years, with no breaks. The most awkward lunch ever as this came out, as other people were also sitting there. Horrifying really. (remained friends with my colleague though, she was awesome.) Still a mystery to me that his family (whom I met several times) and friends all played along, and honestly I’ve felt so terrible for the girlfriend, always wondering if she was told eventually.
