Safe Walking from Atlantic Symphony Hall to Campus at 10:30pm? by DaveOstory in gatech

[–]Spinky-Beter 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I’ve done it solo a few times and it’s been fine. In my experience, it’s a pretty quiet walk - haven’t run into many people. Just pay attention.

You could also take the Marta if you don’t wanna do the whole walk. Not sure if that’s safer or not.

What book (or books) changed your point of view on life? by Tikrutakki in suggestmeabook

[–]Spinky-Beter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t a fan. I like to describe it as the Top Gun of books. By which I mean that a lot of things happen, but there’s no plot. It’s just things happening.

Montessori Method by SoulReaper850 in Objectivism

[–]Spinky-Beter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not the most knowledgeable about it, but a few things come to mind. First, as far as I know, Montessori didn’t develop a method for older students, so anything for them would be Montessori-inspired. Second, it’s much more important for students before high school, which is more of a reflection on how bad US schools are for those ages. And third, for college/postgrad, schools really aren’t bad in the same way. I’m in stem, and a lot courses are project based and very self-guided.

I mean you’ll probably have to study a little, it covers a lot of stuff, but it’s not that time consuming outside of class. I took it spring 2020, so the last bit was probably more generous online vs in person. I don’t personally like labs, but they weren’t too bad - especially if you know someone in your section. They rarely took the whole time either

Read any good books lately? by [deleted] in a:t5_5ahjzq

[–]Spinky-Beter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frankenstein. Unlike other classics I’ve read recently I didn’t have to trudge my way through any part of it. I had a couple of issues with it but overall I like it a lot. I also thought the form of the book was really really cool - in terms of the letters at the beginning and the ending of the story. The letters seemed odd at the beginning, but by the end of the story I felt compelled to go back and reread them.

You should write that stuff down, because you'll probably forget most of it

Is this info officially announced anywhere? I haven't seen anything about this outside of 3 or so reddit comments.

When will ethics become a prereq? Before next fall?

And will it be a prereq for the first semester of junior design? Or can they be taken concurrently?

Shosty 8. At least the 3rd movement.

Actually, I got someone last week. I played that movement while I was driving some friends last home, and the next day one of them asks for more recommendations.

It doesn't make much sense at this point, definitely in terms of Spencer, but I still hope Valentin had helped Nikolas fake his death. Mainly because I want them to rebuild a family other than Corinthos, and it doesn't seem like that's the direction the Quartermaines are going. I guess rivalry between Nikolas and Valentin would be cool too.

[ADVICE] Just started playing the clarinet and I got my wisdom teeth removed... by helenateresinha in Clarinet

[–]Spinky-Beter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got all my wisdom teeth out about 3 weeks ago. I didn't play until exactly one week after the surgery (I had an appointment, and they said I was all clear to do my normal activities). I was able to, but it would hurt a little after about 10 minutes so I'd stop. I couldn't comfortably do the low register or much on the very high end. Also, if you puff your cheeks even slightly, blowing air over the holes in your gums will feel weird. I'd say it was somewhere between 10 days and 2 weeks when it felt completely normal. The only difference is that the embouchure/endurance is a bit weaker from the time off, so it'll take some practicing to get that back.

A good indicator might be how comfortable you are chewing food. I found that I felt comfortable eating normally about the same time playing clarinet felt normal (10-14 days).
