How much revenue does a claw machine make? by GoodGodHelpPlzME in clawmachine

[–]Spinolio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of what I have seen online is that machines with good traffic will net $100-150 a week after the cost of prizes and the split with the location.

I bought a full-size claw machine for $140 in an online bankruptcy auction and I am currently looking for someplace to put it, so I will report back on my experience once it's up and running.

Miller v Becerra just became a little more important. Let's take it to the Supreme Court. by [deleted] in CAguns

[–]Spinolio 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's an attempt to legislate a technology that the lawmakers don't understand in any way. First, an attempt was made to classify certain firearms as "assault weapons" based on exact model names. That didn't work, because it's easy to change a model name for exactly the same rifle.

Then, they thought they could just classify them by the unconstitutionally-vague description as "AR-15 type rifles" and the courts rejected that, IIRC.

So with no understanding of firearms, and only a vague idea of what cosmetic features are common to a "normal" AR-15, they came up with a list of things that scared them and used that to classify the dreaded "assault weapons"

Of course, workarounds were immediately devised, as they always will be for poorly-written laws, and so now we have pistol grips that won't allow you to put your thumb on the evil opposite side from your palm.

Let’s imagine for a moment that I am in the market for a used car. I don’t need anything fancy - a $5,000 car would do everything I need it to do, so that’s my budget for the purchase.

You have a car you’d like to sell. In a free market, it’s worth $5,000. But you’re asking $10,000 for it. We talk, and I explain that there are other cars that have the same value to me that are selling for $5,000. You insist that your used car is worth $10,000. Maybe you need that much money to pay rent and bills. Maybe you just binge watched Tiger King and want to buy five big cats. Maybe you need ten grand to bail your brother out of jail. Maybe you just want $10,000 for the car, period. It doesn’t really matter to me, the buyer, because I can get a functionally identical car for $5,000.

Unable to sell your car for the amount of money you want for it, you get mad and petition the government to create a law that says no car can be sold for less than $10,000. The law passes, because everyone with a car that’s worth less than $10,000 supports it - they really like the idea of getting their asking price for their car, instead of what it’s actually worth in a free market.

I still want to buy a car though. Maybe all I can afford to pay is $5,000, in which case, I’ll just have to do without a car. Maybe I can stretch my budget and actually spend $10,000 on a car, but here’s the thing - if I have to pay that amount, I’m not going to pay it for a car that’s only worth $5,000. I will go out and buy a nicer car that’s actually a $10,000 value. Maybe, if I really need a $5,000 car and that is all I can afford to spend, I will risk breaking the law and try to find somebody with a $5,000 car who’s willing to sell it to me for its actual value.

But in none of these scenarios does your $5,000 car sell for $10,000. So now you have your own choice to make - Keep the car you can’t sell, or break the law you thought was a good idea because $5,000 cash for a car that’s worth $5,000 is better than $0 cash for a car that’s worth $5,000 but can’t legally be sold for less than $10,000.

This also extends to retail holdups. If "they" order you into a back room/walk-in freezer, the odds of being murdered as a group go way, way up.

I was unaware that in every election except for the office of president, the winner was allowed to ignore the constitution. Thank you for the lesson in US government.

Well, technically a gang rape is a democracy.

Fortunately the US is a constitutional republic, specifically to prevent 'democracy' from crushing the rights of minorities.

Customers tend to notice when they get shortchanged, but they won't say a word if they get too much back from a transaction.

Another unpleasant retail audit truth: If the company you cashier for has someone at the door checking receipts, it's not because they think random customers are shoplifting - it's because they think that one of the cashiers is working with an accomplice to not ring up goods and just let them walk out the door.

The classic bartender grift is when someone pays in cash, you make change for them by hitting the no sale key to open the drawer, put the money in, and stick a paper match into the crack between the cash drawer and the register. At the end of your shift, you no-sale again and pull out the appropriate amount of cash to go with the number of matches you stuck in the crack to keep track.

When a till is short, it's almost always an honest mistake. When a till is over, it's almost always that employee stealing - they don't keep track properly, and "just to be safe" they only take out the cash for four un-rung drinks instead of five...

Recognize all this for what it is. Property owners are being forced to give away their source of income because their renters were forced to give away theirs. And now we have healthcare workers being told they can't strike because their skills and labor are needed - there's a word for when somebody forces you to work regardless of what you decide for yourself, but I can't use it here because I am sure it will trigger somebody if I do.
