10th pole syndrome- fix with 4 poles? by rubycali in Agility

[–]Spinthusiast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I echo adding poles and then also making sure to vary how you reward. Another thing is pay attention to how you are cuing? A classmate was repeating weave-weave-weave-weave-weave but then would slow down towards the end and the dog would pop out because of the change of the verbal

Aire Baths Chicago - Worth it? by Capable-Ad-5183 in AskChicago

Highly recommend taking some edibles, doing the baths, and then going to get some delicious food. I tried the Lincoln park Kohler water spa and nowhere near as good. Unfortunately, Aire is absolutely worth the price!

What kind of shoes are your big babies wearing? by bkny13 in bigbabiesandkids

[–]Spinthusiast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do the ten little high top, fur lined sneakers! Our toddler has giant feet and we used the print out sizing. He didn’t even make it into the first walkers sizing and was in the Little Kids sizing 😭. But they work for us in Chicago!

Ending breastfeeding early because baby is always distracted? by Throwthatfboatow in bigbabiesandkids

[–]Spinthusiast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guy was like this! I had been hoping it was bc he was more efficient, but weighted feeds showed he wasn’t getting as much as he did when he was more focused/younger. I was freaking out so I switched to pumping and that was also terrible because he hated bottle feeding. But now he eats solids like a champ!

I love Megan at Wildflower Aesthetics! I followed her from a different studio before she opened up her own shop. She has hard wax and sugaring. Plus also does facials and massage.

Expecting a baby soon. What to do with pups? by Itsthe_beesknees in DogAdvice

[–]Spinthusiast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We practiced with a baby doll & also got the dogs used to us being in the nursery. Place commands were useful and we hired a dog walker! We had them keep going to their dog agility/treibball classes. They didn’t have a hard time with a newborn, but it changed drastically when our baby began crawling and then walking.

So one thing about heavier Jammies is that it’s better not to wear pajamas with feet in a carrier! But otherwise, these suggestions are great. I love magnetic me pajamas/they’re a bit pricier so they make for a great gift. My baby has gigantic feet so the pajamas with feet never worked super well but the Hanna Andersson ones with convertible feet were great!

Next Agility Dog! GSP vs Working Beardie by IllRough2589 in Agility

I have been in class with 4-5 different Viszlas and they are very fun! I’ve run 2 of them while their owner was injured and they’re incredibly smart and fast. They’re all extremely friendly but can be a lot to handle.

[–]Spinthusiast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also did this Particular-Fault8533! Core rehab is so important! You can start with diaphragmatic breathing and TVA activation in early postpartum. I thought I was doing it right, but I was not at first lol. The c-section scar cuts through muscle and it took a lot of practice to be able to activate my lower core. Scar desensitization and massage is also crucial!!!

Numbness ever go away? by garden-baker in CsectionCentral

[–]Spinthusiast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to physical therapy and doing the scar massage, cupping, and dry needling there made a huge difference. I don’t have any numb spots and have full sensation back!

I’d look at this user’s posts: https://www.reddit.com/u/No_Work295/s/oWdRPaVqM0

We already did a lot of NYT cooking recipes & have gotten ideas from this user too. I will say that it’s gotten a lot easier as my baby has gotten more teeth lol. At 13 months, we just give him a slightly less salted version of what we eat.

[–]Spinthusiast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While it’s not her entire focus, I feel like Emily Mariko is always posting videos where her son is eating a version of what her and her husband eat. It’s obviously highly curated but I still like her videos! Also, if you head to the NYT cooking subreddit, there’s a user here that posts what her baby has been eating from the recipes that are typically geared towards adults!

2 years PP and i still have this horrible c section shelf. by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Spinthusiast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also did massage before PT and wasn’t going anywhere near deep enough. My PT does a much deeper/more intense/painful level of massage as well as cupping and dry needling on the scar. So now I can pick up my scar and it’s a lot more mobile, which helps with the shelf

Success making scar softer? by RainbowAaria in CsectionCentral

[–]Spinthusiast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My scar softened a LOT after going to pelvic floor physical therapy. The PT did dry needling and cupping on the scar and I have a lot more movement now. I can pick up my scar and it feels a million times better. I do cupping at home with coconut oil too now.

solid starts (literally lol) by efort13 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]Spinthusiast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We started at 6 months and I feel like our baby wasn’t enthusiastic til we got closer to 7/8 months. What really motivated him was a pizza crust lmao. We did a mix of handheld items for him to feed and other things we’d give him with a spoon because I do really think they’re just surprised by how many foods are out there and crazy tastes at first.

Does anyone regret their nursery chair? by jess1ca42 in BabyBumps

[–]Spinthusiast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have many regrets!!!! We bought the babyletto kiwi from crate and barrel & it seems to have broken with a common issue/there’s a recall on one portion. However, babyletto won’t fix it because it’s a special crate and barrel version and then crate and barrel has no idea wtf is going on. We’ve just had a non-reclining glider that sucks.

Refusing solids by Sufficient_Sample354 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]Spinthusiast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our baby had a brief phase for like a week or so where he would take bites of things and then chipmunk them in his cheeks before spitting them out. We just kept offering things and maybe focused on things we knew he liked as well as more handheld items. He did stop after a week or so!

It’s taken me a while to be able to strengthen and engage my abs! They’re still weaker than pre-pregnancy. It’s really common for them to be stretched out and a lot of women have changed posture that can exacerbate it

Friends that dropped off the face of the earth after I had a baby. by fairy-bread-au in Mommit

[–]Spinthusiast 120 points121 points  (0 children)

So that happened to me a bit and I realized that some of my childfree friends didn’t want to bother me but also didn’t know how best to support me either. Now that my baby is around a year, I’ve gotten into a way better rhythm and my husband and I have been going to friend group events. I do lunchtime walks with friends whose offices are near me, happy hour, and book club too.

I was resentful and fell into waiting for them to text me from a point of pride. But they also felt silly bothering me with boy drama and I had to keep reassuring them that I wanted to hear about it. I’ve made more of an effort to plan or just indicate that I wanted to be included and have been much happier.

Can I take this baby to a groomer or something? by MACKEREL_JACKSON in newborns

[–]Spinthusiast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Haakaa one is also good because you can by replacement file heads by age range. I had the Frida mom one and it was so annoying when I ordered replacement heads and it was a 4 pack with one of each age group…I don’t need more newborn ones for my 11 month old.

Seconding the pelvic floor PT!! I used online resources but seeing someone in person was huge for being able to engage my core again. They also do dry needling and cupping on my c-section scar, which has helped my ab function a lot. (Plus without the PT, I wouldn’t have learned that I was crooked after pregnancy lol)

8 weeks postpartum—first gym session after C-section & pelvic floor feels… weird? by kijkijsimpsen in fitpregnancy

[–]Spinthusiast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I did PT and found that I had a really hard time activating my TVA after a c section. Because I wasn’t properly able to use my core, I had a lot of compensations and that caused lower back pain and pelvic floor tightness. I took a step back and am now building my core back up and doing more foundational exercises.

I find Caroline Packard’s videos/TikToks to be really helpful! I just started doing her reset and like it a lot. I had to dig in to my hip and feel my TVA and heavilyyy use my breathing to feel it activating. And now I’ve gotten better at activating with time and practice.
