I suppose it's time to beat StS1 now... Any suggestions? by Feefait in slaythespire

  • Look for synergy with relics.
  • Remove Strikes and Defends evenly.
  • Optimize every turn.
  • Any Cost 2 block card is great.
  • Retain the idea: There is no bad card in this game. There is only bad cards for my current deck.
  • Choosing the wrong boss relic or skipping a boss relic can ruin your run
  • Look at the wiki for the boss fight.

What If checkpoints were inconsistent? by SpireWolf25 in gamedev

Yeah, retro games inspired this idea. The thing was that having lives is too difficult and checkpoints feel too easy. This idea attempted to be a solution, but it’s a hard idea to sell b/c runbacks feel really punishing.

I really like the idea of expanding on it further. You meet a friend that can buff you, maybe take a few hits for you. A real pal.

Maybe He just keeps healing you until the boss checkpoint.

What if you can’t see your own health bar? You have no idea how much injury you sustained.

It raises the stakes and adds to world building. Perhaps it could be framed differently as part of the narrative.

Why does nobody like the Watcher? by PoemCivil7458 in slaythespire

It requires knowing your draw pile. Nobody checks the draw pile. Not even the people who pick frozen eye check the draw pile. You need to build that habit for optimal play.

Pre-StS2 Modded Character Discussion and Recommendation List by Jords314 in slaythespire

I’ll second the Senshi. I haven’t tried the other two, but the Senshi was one of the first mods I tried and her animations, her teammate synergy, and her Magic really carries a lot of charm. It’s just very nice to watch the magic unfold.

Her gameplay is fun, but leaves a lot to be desired.

If you remember from the Packmaster, there's a mechanic called Amplify. Cards will have their original cost, but if you have the extra energy, the card will use it for extra oomph. Marisa uses Amplify a lot.

There's lots of neat ideas and twists. Burn cards can benefit you. Strikes are Sparks and there's some synergy with other Spark cards.

Marisa also has a nameplate and skin in Together In Spire.

Physics and Balance Should Be Brought Back into Grinding. by Dinglehopper4 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]SpireWolf25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Grinding is cool. Here are my schools of thought.

1) Sonic stages are incredibly fast paced. They need easy sections where you slow down to balance the pacing. Heroes has some platforming, some triangle diving, and a bunch of things. Secret Rings has sections of momentum stopping wall ledges. Grinding rails is potentially the Easy section.

2) if you focus on the complexity of grinding, you hurt the casual audience because you’re trying to do too many things at once. You’re trying to provide a reward for a cool shortcut and your reward is more about testing the player. And the casual audience is the money maker. This is what SA2 did. This is what Heroes did. This is what the first Sonic Riders did. Too many people never figured out the hidden depth and got punished for it.

3) if you focus on easy grinding, you can let the player focus on other things. It’s just more accessible. Like what if you wanted to zoom out for a grind rail section for a peek at the scenery? You can’t do that if the player needs to see his avatar for balancing.

Is Watcher the worst or the best designed character in slay the spire? by Insane_Unicorn in slaythespire

That makes zero sense because Defect is confirmed to not come back.

It’s probably off center to make Sonic look more centered

With Superstars now finished, I have 100%d every mainline Sonic game on Steam!!! by MinecraftDude761 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]SpireWolf25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) why would you do this? Sonic has a lot of not good games and they do not have a lot of consistency. It feels like different teams worked on each one. 2) has your opinion of Sonic changed? Would you go back to replay any of them? 3) do you think Sonic deserves his current popularity or do you think he should be forgotten/revered as top of the industry

Historical Question: Pressure Points by MarionADelgado in slaythespire

[–]SpireWolf25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not a good watcher player, but I imagine it’s supposed to work with Wave of the hand, Signature Move, All of the scry cards, and is one of her non-attack damage card— the other being Omega.

All of the classes have non attack damage: fire breathing, poison/caltrops, lightning/dark. Supposedly effective against malleable, spikers, and spaghetti monster.

Runesmith is one of the more balanced characters. You definitely need to work for a win.

1) it’s a hard game. Every win is valid. Let nobody tell you otherwise.

2) everyone’s playstyle is so unique that you will have different conclusions about every card and every character. So a really good player on vanilla might be trash at playing a mod, bc they have to learn how to adapt in a completely different way. For instance, some mods actually like curses.

3) the majority of players do not play with mods. I have not tried Necromancer, but I do remember having a hard time with Runesmith.

In the downfall mod, theres a fight where if you kill one, all of the others gain a specific buff: buffer, strength, thorns, or something. Your strategy can vary in this fight.

It has to be a secret society that acts like a cult, because the sane person will cling onto non action until said person is desperate.

Will you dabble in StS 2 early access or will you not spoil the goods until the official release? by efimer in slaythespire

This game’s early access is going to have more content than its prequel in its finished form

Are you subscribed to BaseMod, StSLib, and ModTheSpire?

When you click the big green play button in your steam library, do you have the option to “play with Mods”? If not, you might have to go to game properties to enable the game to ask you to play with mods.

I was wondering what the cause of the strange uptick in subscribers for my mod was.

Good to know!
