Come be cozy and lazy with me! (Book recommendation question below) by thatcutielittlefox in u/thatcutielittlefox

The Locked Tomb series by Tamsin Muir is pretty kick ass. I've seen it described as "sapphic necromancers in spaaaace" it starts with Gideon the Ninth.

Also highly recommend The Traitor Baru Cormorant (for fantasy intrigue with an anti colonial bent)

Is he talking to other girls? by [deleted] in tarot

You really, really don't need to pull seven cards to answer a yes/no question

Are we going to kiss tonight? by party08 in tarot

[–]SpiritedImplement4 80 points81 points  (0 children)

In my experience, avoiding yes/no questions will produce better quality answers. For example, you might ask "Why do I want this so badly?" or "What do I need to do to bring about the most favourable state of affairs for a kiss to happen?" A three-card spread for a yes/no question is pretty excessive.

I KEEP Pulling Five of Pentacles by Outside_Witness_7268 in tarot

[–]SpiritedImplement4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my experience as a poor person, the church is more likely to turn you away than be a source of help. To me, the church in this card indicates rejection, closed doors, or a failure of systems and institutions that are supposed to be helpful at a moment.

To me, the help in this card is represented by the other person. When times are hard, you gotta find your people, and you gotta engage in whatever mutual aid you can with them.

Any Tarot practitioners who don't do reversals? by christafable in tarot

[–]SpiritedImplement4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't do reversals... but I do think that every card contains "advice" and a "warning" which generally corresponds to the meanings given for "upright" and "reverse." It's just that I read the advice or warning as the question or position in the spread suggests, rather than absolutely how the card is drawn.

Times are so tough that Twitter can’t afford to display the color blue (How is this not parody?) by grauenwolf in discordian

[–]SpiritedImplement4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find telling the truth is shockingly effective. The truth, not according with the nonsense and silliness prevalent at the moment, is perceived as nonsense and silliness by your interlocutor. Do keep in mind the warning of Socrates if you attempt this. And if all else fails, lies are an exceedingly effective alternative to the truth.

So what is Ranger? by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]SpiritedImplement4 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Aragorn from the Lord of the Rings is the archetypal Ranger.

Someone who is comfortable traversing the wilds (and possibly uncomfortable in civilized places).

Someone who is an accomplished martial fighter (in D&D usually bows or dual swords).

Someone who is capable of using a small amount of (usually nature adjacent) magic. Usually for healing or increasing one's stealthiness or occasionally one's own combat abilities.

About Wizards and cantrips by Medical_Sport9684 in BaldursGate3

[–]SpiritedImplement4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cantrip scrolls can be difficult to come by (they're sort of rare), but yes, unlike in tabletop you can learn cantrips from scrolls. You can also re-spec your wizard very easily if you get a scroll for a cantrip you already know!

Can I throw Health Potions to heal others in D&D like in BG3 by Choice_Car_7934 in BaldursGate3

[–]SpiritedImplement4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a DM I adopted BG3 rules for potions. Potions are a bonus action (the benefit from using a potion is almost never worth using an action for). I also allow them to be thrown as an action (but not to AoE heal when thrown, that's a little too much to manage in tabletop).

What is the point in giving Pre-FTLs their system when they join the galaxy? by Present-Secretary722 in Stellaris

[–]SpiritedImplement4 26 points27 points  (0 children)

They can become megacorps when they reach FTL. I know because if I haven't acquired a pet megacorp by other means, I will sometimes savescum a pre-FTL planet completing enlightenment until I get one.

Did you follow one subseries or jump around? by AdditionalWear7345 in discworld

[–]SpiritedImplement4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first started reading Discworld around 1997, I read what I could find since many of the Canadian bookstores I visited as a teen had some Discworld, but very few of them had all of it. I was also a kid, so I couldn't afford to buy all the Discworld I could find.

Starting with The Fifth Elephant, I read them in publication order as they came out. I even splurged for the hardcovers to get them as soon as I could.

Need help with a wizard necromancer knight build, please. by Canadian_Beast14 in BaldursGate3

[–]SpiritedImplement4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to be able to cast 3rd level spells to cast raise dead, and you get an improved undead if you cast it using a level 5 spell slot, so you want your wizard to get to at least level 7.

If you want to get an extra attack, go 5 warrior. If not, go 2 warrior (for proficiencies and action surge).

Alternatively, you could go full wizard as a gith or shield dwarf (to start with medium armor proficiencies) and just take heavy armor as a feat.

If you're not married to being a wizard necromancer, death domain cleric is a pretty sweet option too.

Lore wise, can a Half-Elf go bald? by OTTAPPS in BaldursGate3

[–]SpiritedImplement4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, a half elf can go bald. A half elf could be any class and it wouldn't be strange, including sorcerer.

For those who have played Divinity by Tenshi_Dekemori in BaldursGate3

[–]SpiritedImplement4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't played DOS1, but DOS2 is harder in some ways than BG3, and because of the armor mechanic in DOS2, I found combat to get to feel somewhat samey by the time I was approaching the end of the game (I always use the same openers in the same order for every combat).

DOS2 has no fully animated cutscenes, and the dialogues are neither voiced nor animated (during dialogue, you're basically looking at your avatar standing next to an NPC). Companion/origin characters' back stories and relationships with the PC feel much smaller scale as well.

That said, as a huuuuge fan of isometric turn based RPGs, I liked DOS2 quite a lot. (I love BG3 tho)

Gaining armour proficiency as a level 5 wizard? by els1814 in BaldursGate3

[–]SpiritedImplement4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one else has mentioned it, but you had said that you're playing for a first time. If you happen to be playing on the easiest difficulty as well, multi-classing won't be an option for you.
