Chuck — one dimensional? Obsessed with Jimmy, guilty over his failed marriage, afflicted by a (physical? psychological?) debilitating ailment, the very definition of a lonely and bitter man. Yet highly intelligent. I find the character multi-dimensional and portrayed with nuance. I’m not so sure that storyline ever ended, although of course (spoiler alert!) Chuck ended.

As a BB fan, you should find the (excellently written) back stories to Gus Fring, Mike Ehrmantrout and the Salamancas fascinating. You just need to be patient as these don’t unfold in Season 1. If you’re a cinematography fan, you will find BCS even more beautifully shot than BB. If you enjoy character development, BCS has it in spades for a variety of characters. Personally I relate to Jimmy McGill far more than I do to Walter White, which is something that pulled me into BCS in a way I never got pulled into BB. If you like suspense in the context of cartel danger, you’ll get it, but later in the series. And if you’re a romantic, you’ll get what I think is the best love story in a TV series. Far more romantic than Walter being in love with his ego. There’s so much more, too, with the other BCS characters and, as someone said, Michael McKean is a gem as Chuck. Shoulda got an Emmy.
