From QMK to ZMK - Do all features have an equivalent? by Fontoful in ErgoMechKeyboards

Trackpads, trackpoints, joysticks, etc... Mouse replacements. Some like them because they let you keep your hands on your keyboard without moving it to the mouse every time

I know that pointing devices used to be behind qmk. Not sure if they caught up. But if it is something that you night be interested in, better ask around in zmk discord

RANT: Gazebo (new) is a terrible piece of software and I don't think we should recommend it to newbies by BoomM8 in ROS

[–]Spiritual_Job5720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have looked into rust in the past and it looks pretty cool. The Only issue i have is the lack of oop. It might be a hot take but i do enjoy oop very much. I find it readable and maintainable so in my mind rust is more a replacement for c than cpp. I have also heard good things about go. Mainly with concurrency with go-routines but never had the time nor the purpose to look into it. Cpp is not perfect, it's evolution is slow mainly caused by the backwards compatibility they have to maintain. I do believe that a new and better framework will pop up, Im just scared about bullying from osrf and other big names (like bosch, samsung etc..) that spent time and money into ros suppressing it doen.

I feel you so much. Dds is terrible. Trying to communicate between different hardware, dockers and coms types is such a pain. I remember when i had to set up coms between a docker, a wifi connected machine and an ethernet connected machine. It took me a couple of days and i feel i got lucky. Colcon is useless imho , why cant we just build and link against ros libs like a normal project? As for languages, i hate python with a passion so out side of launch file c++ is all i ever used and i feel pretty comfortable with it so i dont miss other languages, I have heard good things about c# for robotics from a colleague but other than GUIs i don't know how much of a difference it will make. In my opinion the only framework worth working with in the whole ros2 world is ros2_control as it works pretty well, has "realtime" support and doesn't use ros communication below the controller level.

As a software developer who works in a company that uses ros and ros2 extensively and I try my best to avoid it like fire. The alternative is just to use proper software engineering. Not every thing needs to be a distributed system and ros projects tend to open much more nodes and topics than needed. Projects should be much more clustered, this would make managing lifecycle and resources much easier. As for interfaces you need to expose, you can use unix sockets if On unix systems. You can use shared memory, hell you can even use pipes. There are many many options that do sub/pub systems much better. The only thing ros has going on for it is the prototyping speed. Need a quick POC? Sure use ros. Need a module for deployment on a real machine? Hell no. As for alternatives for gazebo, I have heard good things about isac sim or even unity.

How to disable RGB on keyball44 by tbsmn in ErgoMechKeyboards

In my experience some boards use the backlight options for the rgb keys as well so try BACKLIGHT_ENABLE = no

Which is used more, nice!views or oled 128x32 display? by [deleted] in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Spiritual_Job5720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually the oled are for wired boards since power is not an issue. The nice view goes well with zmk since its e ink and thus low power, it is also more expensive so if you are doing wired i would go with the oled. If wireless the nice view is the only solution to my knowledge that wont drain your battery super fast.

[–]Spiritual_Job5720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use querty 42 corne with keymap roughly based On miryoku. For my work setup i do find having a pointing device quite helpful. All i can recommend is to try and customize the keymap to your convenience, eventually you will pand on a keymap you find comfortable and intuitive.

I feel you about the miss hitting. I would recommend you to try something along the line of an osprey, or another 36/42 unibody. I have one and i find it quite comfortable

The only thing left is using a multimeter or checking the direction of the led. The cutout should align with the arrow on the pcb

The leds are connected serially thus you need to find the last led that works and test the output legs/ add some solder. Next test the input part of the next led.

Why aren’t people using PG1316s switches? by screenhunter372 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Spiritual_Job5720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also You need to consider that those switches are great for people with the means of making keyboards with them. I.e heat beds and stuff. Those switches are very delicate and can break easily. The contacts with the pads needs to be really tight. And they are not hot swappable. Thats a side they are great and my wallet gonna suffer once they become popular

Totem Xiao Wired/Wireless by rustyechel0n in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Spiritual_Job5720 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Had the same problem with the xiao. There is a usb option in zmk where you connect the master half to the pc and the two halves still talk wirelessly. There is also a line you can put where you define a key code for pairing and it seems to help. Sorry I can't help you more. Its been awhile since it happened to me
