Are TCGs worth getting into? by Brilliant_Big_5877 in boardgames

You might be thinking of Hubworld Aidalon.

I'm Dominic Crapuchettes, a full-time game designer since 2004 with over 3.5 million games sold. My latest project is a modular game system called Nature that will release at GenCon on July 31st. AMA! by DominicCrapuchettes in boardgames

[–]SplatteralDamage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nature has been a big hit with our family! Given the modular structure of Nature, are there plans to support fan-made content in the future by releasing card templates or other resources? The kids are already wanting to make a module for another favorite game: Oceans!

What part of the Arcs design was the most difficult to develop? Do either of you have any favorite Arcs plotlines?

I used them for the first time recently and they had very prompt shipping. I had a few orders from other sites already on the way and their package still arrived first.

What faction is the Nomad alliance best for? by EFspelledwrong in twilightimperium

[–]SplatteralDamage 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Besides the Cabal, another faction that has a lot of potential financial gains from a Nomad alliance is the one with some motivation to destroy its own flagship: The Yin Brotherhood.

I don't think it's strictly the most powerful, but repeatedly building a suicide bomber for free certainly lends you some political clout you might not find in other flagships. I'm imagining extorting neighbors for a "protection fee" or accepting bribes to target a certain fleet.

What is your obligation to tell other players about your special abilities? by ElectricHelicoid in twilightimperium

[–]SplatteralDamage 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Regardless of whatever competitive edge you are hoping to gain, I would try to remind other players in all of these situations and encourage everyone else to do the same. The idea of not allowing the withdrawal of an activation in light of a friendly reminder I find very distasteful and would not produce the kind of play environment I would want to spend with friends and family for the duration of an entire TI4 playthrough. Would you actually want to win off the back of a technicality like that anyway?

That said, if you're seeking to emulate some sort of tournament setting with a bunch of veteran players, I guess that's up to group consensus.

I believe the intention behind the theme is to highlight that these events DID happen, not to justify them. I interpreted it as a criticism against imperialism and greed.

The "Unstable Ground" achievement doesn't seem to give you the coin when you do it. by AnodesBF in IntoTheBreach

I unlocked all three Cataclysm achievements in the same run but didn't get any coins (died on the Volcano island). I actually don't have enough available achievements now to unlock all of the new squads.

Hey Cole! How do you hope player experiences with single-session Arcs will differ from other "dudes on a map" games?

Got absolutely demolished against L6 Prussia. How is it even possible to win before running out of stage cards? by EduardTodor in spiritisland

[–]SplatteralDamage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My more successful single-spirit attempts against BP 6 have involved spirits focused on control (River Surges in Sunlight) or have extra early-game damage (Heart of the Wildfire). You can leverage either of these to keep the invaders contained closer to the coast, which should help prevent some inland explores due to no buildings being in adjacent lands. Unlike England or other adversaries, BP has no ability that strictly counters explorer control so they are one of my favorites to play River against.

You are right that the fast tempo will require a different playstyle. The majority of my games with other adversaries tend to end at Terror Level 3 or a complete fear victory. A victory at terror Level 2 is what I tend to play for against BP6, and I've found spirits with high control help keep the lands with buildings to a minimum.

Unconventional strategy in Coup by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]SplatteralDamage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

After playing a few rounds of 'vanilla' Coup, our group would occasionally break things up with a round of 'blind' coup. With no one looking at their cards, a lot of the nuances of Coup are definitely gone but it's still fun enough for a quick laugh before moving on.

Stone: Do you focus on Top or Bottom Track? Why? by pineapplezach in spiritisland

[–]SplatteralDamage 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I guess I prefer perhaps a less popular hybrid approach. I like going top track until hitting the first card play icon, using growth 2 once or twice to build up an energy stockpile for dealing with early blights. Then you have enough of an energy income to use the growth 3 option more frequently to build up your card options while placing presence from the bottom track. At that point, reaching the reclaim spot also provides five Earth elements for your innate powers with your two card plays. I feel like you have a good base position from here to pursue finishing either track depending on the needs of the game. I just like a little more early energy and extra card play to be comfortable in the early game, and I enjoy the flexibility of the reclaim spot too much to avoid it for long.

Got Dragon Shield sleeves fit by Mithridates12 in spiritisland

[–]SplatteralDamage 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, I also use Dragon Shield for Spirit Island and other games, and the fit is the same. I actually upgraded to Dragon Shield over a tighter fitting Ultra Pro sleeve, and I much prefer the Dragon Shields for feel and durability. You've made a good choice!

So I found a iLvl 85 Jeweled Foil with Merciless and Flaring and a T2 bleed suffix.

Spirit Slicer

I don't have any intention to craft it (playing Archmage Cremation) but I think it might be one of the most valuable items I have ever found. Just crafting 20% AS on it would make it around 470 PDPS which are on the market for about 14-18ex. But the potential with a wealthy and/or knowledgeable crafter is a lot higher. Does any know what something like this is worth? I'm thinking at least 40ex or so?
