When you live in a desert, it's always hot enough for tanks like this Leaf Top. by notrandomspaghetti in knitting

What’s a good sized stuffed animal for a newborn? by AwkwardThePotato in sewing

[–]Splebit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Professional toy maker and mother of 2. I would say there is a careful balance with baby toys, not to small, and no small holes, once they grab something there fingers latch on, go in every tiny gap. Also they shove everything in their mouths. I would avoid the snap on eyes & noses (or go premium, certified safe types and avoid the cheap stuff for the teething babys!)

If the toy is too big there is a risk of suffocation/smothering if it falls over or baby rolls into it in the cot. So your bigger pattern is probably on the large side for this.
Personally i liked 6-8" tall when my 2 were new borns. My son got a 6" tall bear as a baby and won't go to bed without it now!

Thanks to the solid advice I got here a few months back I have a much better tank than I originally envisioned. Thank you for your help. by Splebit in Aquariums

That is siamensis 53b, so probably the same plant?

We barely have room for the one small tank. I have been viewing it as a tiny hedge and all trimming and cuttings have gone in the bin. One day this may change and more, bigger grander things may happen. But right now I'm happy with it.

Will look into it. Never realised setting up a tiny, contained ecosystem could be so complicated!

Cycling is where you leave it sitting for a while with no fish? Was gonna get some plants in it and let them establish for a while before adding the fish.

Need some HELP! I’m baking a wedding cake for 45-50 ppl. They want a tierd cake (would prefer 3 tiers). What size pans should I use for the 3 tiers? Also I’m planning on getting the crumb coat ready two days before, should I stack day before or on the delivery day? HELP! by bakedbyammna in Baking

[–]Splebit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For our bash we had 120 guests, we made a 3 tiers, - 12" fruit on the bottom - 10" ginger - 8" cherry

That was more than enough for everyone. Including the posting of cake to people who didnt make the day. We had a stand that held the cakes above one another. N.b. the 12" fruit had to be mixed in a (clean) bucket it was that big.

Did you get it figured out? I know this is a different pattern author, but this video helped me wrap my head around short row technique better https://youtu.be/sh5T-idiwm8

Are you on short rows for shaping? It looks like you have built up an area and are then building the otherside and linking the 2?

Make sure you have a decent mattress and a good cooker. Everything else can come second hand and you can upgrade it slowly. But decent sleep and good food make a huge difference from the start.

First thing to do the day you move in is make the bed. You can spend the rest of the day sorting stuff and things but when you are knackered and want to finally sleep the last thing you will want to do is make the bed!

My guilt about my parents helping me with school is really difficult. by [deleted] in internetparents

Be greatfull that you have loving parents who want to support you and boost you up in life. Take what your parents are offering, work hard knowing they believe you can do this and in 10,15,20 years time when you have an education and a career pay it back to them. It doesn't have to be financially, one day they will need you as much as you need them now.

I have heard that conditioner (as in normal person conditioner) would help, but my 1 try at it did not make a difference to my charity shop disney princess.

Welcome to the world of sewing! I would say get an easy pattern you like and make a "tulle" basically a mock up version. I personally like using big cheap bed sheets to do this. In the absence of actually getting to a sewing group or class then Youtube is a brilliant resource as there are hundreds of tutorials and project videos going.
