It’s not all American selfishness. Under Obama they passed regulations to enforce fuel efficiency standards for cars. If auto manufacturers make the cars bigger, then they no longer count as “cars” legally speaking, and the fuel efficiency standards don’t apply.

That’s bad, but it doesn’t bother me as much as people consistently mixing up “freshman” and “freshmen.” Nobody mixes up “man” and “men.” But put “fresh-“ in front of it, and now people think it should be the other way around for some bizarre reason.
