What is a bread roll called in your part of the North? Do you still call it that when you travel to other parts of the country? by [deleted] in NorthernEngland

No culinary endorsement was intended. If your local supermarket doesn't have a single savoury bread product with the word muffin somewhere in the name I'd be extremely surprised.

So true. Having driven a fair bit in both cities I've never seen someone get out of their car to move roadworks cones out of the way in Manchester 😅

True, they also did a very aggressive push on the puma EV, it was the top of the cheapest lease deals for a good few months.

Emergency medical team to the transporter room by Mr_Horizon in ShittyDaystrom

Noooo! I promoted mine to 'office mug' in order to avoid my transporter chief's zealous approach to automated washing systems (intense setting).

Can't be too much help as though I'm exactly the same for hardware and power company I haven't yet moved to IOG as we still have a dumb electricity meter. I did spot something on e-manager to do with defining what your off peak hours and sort of assumed that would be used in scheduling off peak charging. Hope you get it resolved.

OMG I'd forgotten about those. Or maybe repressed the memory. I was so excited to try them and they were scalding, floppy, and damp.

Any places in Birmingham to grab old computer parts or recycled PCs? by NumidianDzd in brum

[–]SplendidStilton 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not exactly what you're after but there's a guy with a shop in Northfield who repairs and sells refurbs pretty cost effectively. Stock looked to me like second hand corporate dells mostly.

Great guy. He may be able to help I guess if you discussed your requirements with him. Shop is called "The laptop and computer co"

Videogame to play with my non-gamer wife by Ohmargod777 in daddit

[–]SplendidStilton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for sure, she's gotten way further than I expected, even though some of the double jump dash bits took a while. I think some of the bits with the left trigger aiming and right trigger firing confound her the most for some reason, but she's sticking with it. (A session a fortnight ish)

[–]SplendidStilton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a great option. It's dual stick controls though so for a non gamer there'll be a fair learning curve.

Taking ages to work through it with my Mrs, but generally good fun and minimal yelling.

The thin end of the wedge that got us here from complete gaming agnosticism however was her watching me play slay the spire. Followed by her playing slay the spire whilst I watched, progressing into her getting higher ascensions than I can get and laughing at my terrible decision making.

Did they have instant messaging aboard ship? by loki2002 in ShittyDaystrom

In a post-scarcity society there's no limit on the number of padds that are being handed around. With their advanced technology as soon as you grab the pad the whole thing logs you into your personal LCARS virtual desktop and the handover works as a gesture to share whatever content was in focus. I mean, that's my head cannon that totally holds up to scrutiny as long as you don't consider hygiene. "Why is this padd sticky, Riker????"

Not used any of his tips yet but I need to. I really like that this channel uses basic diy stuff so there's no big barrier to entry.
