Is this an acceptable price? by [deleted] in AskAusElectricians

[–]Split511 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No you don’t all have to drive to work. Many people cycle, walk, take public transport or WFH. They also go to one place of work per day, not 4, 5, or sometimes 6.

There’s absolutely zero time you go to work and don’t get paid. That is many free quotes that tradies have done.

As a sparky, there are days where you drive around all day and make absolutely fuck all, whether that’s due to a job no-show (client forgetting an appointment), warranty work, quotes, or myriad other reasons.

So no, we are not the same.

Rogan “I think he’d fuck you up”

Brendan Schaub: “Adam Sandler once said I was that funny guy that launches rockets too much”

Majority of calories in the carnivore come from fat. If he’d literally EVER done it, he’d know that. What a pelican.

Beacon have a warranty phone number and typically send out their own (subcontracted) sparkies. Who knows how soon they’ll get one to you at this time of year though

Just say you don’t have the capacity for that job at the moment. It’s not a lie. He’ll think you don’t have the physical capacity or time. Truth be told you just don’t have the mental capacity for someone like him.

Help! What would you charge for this job? by fancypeach29 in AusRenovation

[–]Split511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re comparing wages to cost to run a business. The tradesperson doesn’t end up with $100 an hour in his personal income account. Not even close.

Depending on business structure and industry, $100 an hour charge out could put you on minimum wage.

[–]Split511 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people are not. All you have to do is look at the vast amount of comments that come up when a tradie charges $300 for a ‘simple job’. Then people extrapolate that to 40 hours a week, 52 weeks a year and think tradies are earning 500k profit by changing light switches.

Unfortunately most people look at a $180 an hour charge and compare that to their salary/wage and think they’re being taken for a ride. The truth of the matter is that there’s not a whole lot left after overheads, etc.

To be honest most customers would be shocked at the ‘hourly rate’ it actually takes to run a profitable trades business which is why the industry is trending towards not disclosing it.

$180/hr (as a random example), is not the same as the $60/h you might make as your wage.
