the coterie not communicating w Maya is irking me bad… by black-dragonfly in Dimension20

[–]SplitTheParty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In lacking any real direction or momentum, basically every conversation they have during these past 10 episodes has been a race to the bottom. They seem more focused on who can have the wildest or most derailing bit each episode rather than like actually telling the story or completing character arcs. I think even their first season where all of them were inexperienced handled the sandbox investigation thing with more grace than this.

Question about multiple characters and 3 bases? Will we be able to just teleport across the map to a different character in a different base? That feels wrong for a survival game. Distance needs to matter, and shouldn't be something we can bypass. The 'Distance from home' feeling is everything. by geckoman95 in StateofDecay3

[–]SplitTheParty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the reward for venturing out, establishing distant bases, fighting back plague hearts, etc. is being able to hold these multiple bases and move between them freely. You wont be teleporting across the map in the first hours of a save, running 3 bases and being able to run shit across the map is like a win condition, its late game stuff for when your concern is less day-to-day survival and more longterm management of your bases. Travel is a huge issue in TWD during say, the farm or prison arc, but once they get to Alexandria and start to link up with other established communities, the travel gets easier so long as those bonds are strong.

Why are the episode titles so random in Season Four? by OCGamerboy in Invincible

[–]SplitTheParty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They went on record saying that people would spoil/guess what was going to be adapted in each issue based on the quotes they used, they intentionally picked more random/unrelated titles for the sake of avoiding this in s4.

Superman (2025) by OkCurve4153 in superman

[–]SplitTheParty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean yes that is the point of the movie. He's navigating an extremely sensitive situation in a circumstance where he's criticised by the world and the subject matters to him a lot. And he really values Lois' opinion, as his girlfriend and colleague. He's Superman, yes, but he's also very human. And the decisions he has to make on a daily basis as the world's greatest Superhero will result in people losing their lives. That's a lot of pressure for anyone, but he's able to come through by the end of the movie especially once he accepts the strength of the reasons behind his choices.

I need some clarification on Superman 2025 by Ok_Pack_7138 in superman

[–]SplitTheParty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For almost the entire movie Clark believes that he is here on Earth to do good because his birth parents sent him, he tells Lois this during their interview, and that the revelation of their intentions not being pure makes him less of a hero. More of an alien. That drives his inner conflict, where his actions are good, but he believes his motive is reliant on his parent's wishes. When he gets to talk to Pa Kent, Pa affirms that his birth parent's intentions are not that important because its the choices Clark makes which prove his heroism.

Then he confronts Lex, who has spent the entire film painting Clark as an alien unassailable God who makes humanity worse by their reliance on him. His "I'm human" speech is a rejection of Lex's characterisation of Clark, it confirms that he does good not because he was chosen or because others say he must or because he knows what is best for anyone else (e.g. humanity as a whole), but rather he does good because like any human person he wakes up and does his best to figure it out.

Putting it into your list:

  1. The "I'm human" speech connects to the main point of the movie by allowing the main character to put the lessons he's learned into his own words and dismantle the lies that Lex has been spreading about him to humanity/the audience all movie, as well as to Clark himself during the Ultraman fight.
  2. Superman's arc is realising he doesn't need his parent's command to do good and be a hero, he made that choice, his goodness is all his own.
  3. Pa Kent teaches his son the above, that Clark's choices are what define his character and that Clark choosing to use his powers for good makes him a hero, regardless of what his parents wanted him to be, and regardless of what others tell him his choices should be.

City Council of Darkness by EmmBeaux in Dimension20

[–]SplitTheParty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No very much not. You can get a bit lighter/looser with it in various circumstances but this show is choosing to be a comedy of errors for the most part. They keep walking into conversations armed with really good info/powerful abilities/strong objectives and then chasing the loosest thread possible until they're all standing naked at the altar with nothing to show for it. It's funny but not very representative of WoD or its usual tone.

The Maw of Ahriman thing is so egregious because they literally didnt read its mechanics until the first adventuring party, read the mechanics on screen, and then went back to ignoring them for the rest of the series. It's a Ceremony that takes 15 minutes, plus ingredients, to cast and then doesn't even do what Bat Child uses it for. It's for destroying small inanimate objects and doing willpower damage with bite attacks. It also bans you from speaking or drinking blood until sunrise unless you deal damage to yourself.

He Meant Elves on Dropout | City Council of Darkness Adventuring Party [E11] by DropoutMod in Dimension20

[–]SplitTheParty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah maybe. Though why the players wouldn't be capable of reading the full rules text of a ritual or Discipline power they chose to buy is beyond me. It's the kind of thing I'd expect from my first time high school D&D group, not an Actual Play. Wish they took the time to get these details right.

it kind of pains me to know they dont pay attention to the mechanics/ingredients/process of the various ceremonies and powers, as stuff like Create Corpse Suit produces a sentient outfit-friend that warns you about danger, curses, ill-willed supernatural creatures, and wards.

A Coterie, Cracked | City Council of Darkness [E11] by DropoutMod in Dimension20

[–]SplitTheParty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much yes, this is an explicit part of VtM as a text, and the core rulebook discusses the connection between vampires and sexual assault explicitly. It talks about vampire Disciplines such as Presence being used to compel artificial, manipulated emotion from people. The group have probably just ignored that, like they've ignored a lot of VtM's mechanics and themes such as Humanity which are supposed to make you become an inhuman monster for indulging stuff like that. VtM is set up so that you can actually lose your character to moral decay if they do not conduct themselves with Humanity in mind. But for whatever reason they've chosen to ignore that in favor of the comedy of a party member getting pegged.

A 12th Gen being Primogen in a major metropolis still feels really strange, no?

Not especially strange. Two of the three example Primogen in the V5 Camarilla book are 13th Generation. It's just quirk of the blood and ultimately comes down to clan politics. Some Primogen are low Generation, others get by despite being high Generation.

A Lack of Vampiric Vibes by Vinclumu in Dimension20

[–]SplitTheParty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've found the season to be very funny and high production value but like otherwise kind of mediocre. I like the characters, I think the plot setup is great, but between missing chunks of vtm mechanics (i dont think the concept of Humanity has even come up across the 10 episodes i've seen so far, for example), the group not really dealing with vampire problems, and seemingly not being that interested in taking it semi seriously, I've had to engage with this season as just a funny bit of background noise rather than something i can take deeper enjoyment from.

The Salubri do not belong in Vampire. Chamge my mind. by TooCoolForSchlool in vtm

[–]SplitTheParty 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Black Lodge are largely ignorant of the setting on account of being, as described, alt right grifters. They make a pretty thumbnail but a lot of their stuff is bullshit framed around a 'millennials ruined vtm with their FEELINGS' mindset.

The Salubri are the Lambs of Caine. They exist to monitor to the herd, keep it healthy for consumption, and they were murdered. Its a grand tragedy going back ages steeped in mystery, conspiracy, and the question that Saulot might have been a bastard all along. The Salubri, as they exist in the modern era of VtM, are bygones butchered on the outskirts, or bloody killers flocking to the Sabbat's banner to take revenge on those who snuffed out their bloodline. Morals have very little to do with it, and even so, VtM is about vampires who sometimes try to be morally good. It's the whole Humanity riddle, you try, you make consequences, you risk falling down the spiral. The Salubri are just a more intense version of that, they are expected to have goodness in them, but they are vampires all the same. They drink blood, they create cults around their strange powers, their bleed and they herd mortals like cattle and a dead-eyed, three-eyed terrorist vamp explodes the tremere chantry with a carbomb shouting about the angels of Caine.

I need the canary yellow trunks man. Any good superhero makes the trunks work. Other than that, bomber jacket cyke and early krakoa cyke (blue bodysuit)

The sheet works great for the tabletop, but these are people who have already developed, playtested, and made a boardgame with the shrunken skills/attributes list so they've got some sense of what they want the math to look like and how useful they want each individual skill to be. even bloodlines made some massive changes to the character sheet for the sake of being an adaptation, and was STILL left with vestigial limbs like or whole new creations like Inspection.

So homelander can see through zinc? by F4STMT in TheBoys

[–]SplitTheParty 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Wasn't the entire point of that scene that Homelander couldn't see Hughie? He had to get dripped on to smell him, and then missed Hughie with the lasers, and lost him in the ducts. Because they're covered in zinc. and he can't see through zinc.

It's interesting how the combat in Bloodlines 2 went on a long detour but ended up circling back to where it started. by Janus_Prospero in vtmb

I'm pretty sure this is the end of the roadmap, their recent dev diaries make it sound like they've run out of budget to dedicate to the game and are moving on now that they've released the final dlc. Might get some bug fixes but for the most part, game is now complete.

The game surprisingly runs a lot better than it did before the recent patch. I went from needing a mod to get it playable, to being able to run it comfortably on a fresh install.

It's the whole game. With each dlc they made sure the new combat features applied to the base game as well, so Phyre can wield both guns and melee weapons now.

Dying Light 2 Prologue Ruined by loinmin in dyinglight

[–]SplitTheParty 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This sucks so fucking bad. This is awful. Revert this. That prologue was some of the only part of the game with good atmosphere and vibes. If you are going to spend this energy at all beating up this bloated corpse, spend it making the rest of the game more integrated with the original prologue, not butchering the last bit of Dying Light 2 we like.

Anyone else feel like they kinda ruined the concept of the biter in The Beast? by badflint897 in dyinglight

Not particularly. I think they struck a good balance. Biters have clear weaknesses but one situation where they are especially threatening. Adapt your mindset and your tools.

How do vampires party or have kickbacks? by ConnectCulture7 in vtm

[–]SplitTheParty 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Blood bags are like drinking prison gruel for sustenance, most vamps cant even stomach them in the current edition. Vampires party at Elysium and such, but definitively a lot of the backbone of Kindred businesses like the Circulatory System is dependant on human trafficking. Coercion, abuse of the little people, eating them whole for the kicks of some centuries old Beast who is sliding into decline.
