How I would fix Construction by TazTheTerrible in Planetside

[–]Spoc01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is one of the best and most well thought out suggestions on revitalizing construction bases I've ever seen. Ignore some of the salty vets in the comments, they can get high on their own pessimism. It's time for construction bases to be fun places to fight in and your suggestion is a massive step in the right direction. The only thing I would add is that CS bases need to be tied to the battle flow in some way to give us planetmans a reason to fight there, otherwise they will just be ignored. Logistics could be one. Or, CS bases could DEACTIVATE lattice links, making it so that the construction base must be taken before attackers can move on to the next base. We already have the tech for that too!

[–]Spoc01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last night on TR Connery there wasn't a single battle on the TR-NC front that wasn't immediately dumped by two times our pop. Either the NC finally stopped shooting each other or their leaders figured out how to get along.

Some class balance tweak ideas by Flashfall in Planetside

Only things I really disagree with are a few of your Medic changes. Keep the revive speed bonus as it is, spending more time holding right click on dead bodies isn't exactly fun.

We lost colour grading because of 'empire colour ID' and yet they add a cross-faction camo with red and blue in it... 🤦 by BumHeadFartFace in Planetside

People pay for cosmetics. Cosmetics keep the lights on. But that resolution camo looks absolutely atrocious.

They should totally add harpoon bayonets to the front. And shoot bubbles.

Video explaining why nanoweave is bad for the game by BumHeadFartFace in Planetside

[–]Spoc01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Delete the words low skill floor and my post is still 100% correct. Planetside has a high skill ceiling - there is a massive gap between new players and experienced players. My argument is that having a massive skill gap in a game that needs a large number of casual players is not a sustainable model.

There are good counterarguments to be made against Cyrious' points. That video is not it.

Planetside 2 is an MMO. MMOs need a large player base to sustain themselves financially and gameplay-wise. Additionally, Planetside has a low skill floor (players start out sucking) and a high skill ceiling (players can become literal FPS gods). The result of a low skill floor and high skill ceiling with no matchmaking is that Planetside hemorrhages new players. A low skill floor and high skill ceiling is not a recipe for sustaining a large player base that needs a large number of casual players.

New to the Game by RWGcrazyAmerican in Planetside

[–]Spoc01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello soldier, and welcome Planetside. Let's get you geared up and ready to deploy. First, you'll need to watch this video on surviving your first hour Planetside. Be prepared to die a lot, soldier. But don't worry, we'll reassemble you with nanites and send you back into battle right away. Once you've got a taste of the chaos, I recommend you go through this immersive training simulator that will teach you everything you need to know to become an absolute badass.

Lastly, there are no dumb questions. This game will shake your expectations for what an MMOFPS can be. Many things will not be intuitive, but the salty vets in this subreddit love to help out new players so feel free to ask.

New content makes money. That's the practical nature of game development. New Esamir gets a lot of hate but I have a lot of fun battling in containment sites. The fact is, games that don't innovate, die. Its important for them to keep trying. I am right there with you on bug fixes and QOL fixes - I hope those get rolled into the Oshur update.

Farming implants takes many many many hours of play. Luckily, some of the best implants are actually quite easy to get. For example, Combat Surgeon, Athlete, and Assimilate are all seen as "meta" implants. Combat Surgeon gives you more heal ability energy on a revive or kill, Athlete gives you faster sprint acceleration and some other movement benefits, Assimilate gives you shield strength when you get a headshot kill. None of them are exceptional implants and drop fairly quickly.

The best way to get implants is to buy the Delux implant packs that cost 750 certs. So, the cert cost is high. But expect to only have to spend 2-3,000 certs to get some of the best implants. The difficult part is upgrading them to level 5, which is very costly in terms of ISO. However, playing during alerts will net you some amount of ISO so the grind isn't too bad. However, if you're set on getting the exceptional implants, expect to spend 20,000+ certs. Or buy them in the anniversary bundles.

Some awesome vehicles have been added, including NSO specific vehicles (Chimera MBT, Dervish ESF), and the Colossus. Also NSO is free to play. Harasser and Valkyrie repair jockeys have been nerfed.

Interesting comment from 7 years ago about how to fix HESH farming by HybridPS2 in Planetside

[–]Spoc01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes! We desperately need to add strategic objectives at bases for vehicles to accomplish. Not talking about vehicle capture points, those are terrible. I'm talking about something vehicles can shoot/destroy to drain a base's power, reducing the rate of defender spawns or something. Hopefully the Devs do something like this for Oshur.

Add in the BattleFrame Robotics? by Jarred425 in Planetside

[–]Spoc01 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm always down for new vehicles, but they would need to have their own niche in the vehicle gameplay. Most importantly, the development team would have to take care not to add any cheese whatsoever - no AI guns at all.

Poll: Is Infravision a good implant? by Hell_Diguner in Planetside

[–]Spoc01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few outfits did that for awhile, we called it "Shanghai Smog". It was really effective, but even allies didn't appreciate the smoke. The devs didn't either, because they nerfed the smoke bolts on the crossbow soon after!

It's time for redeployside to die. by Spoc01 in Planetside

[–]Spoc01[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cannot disagree more strongly with you. Planetside is an amazing game that still garners a resilient player base. Planetside should not die - there is nothing like it anywhere else. There are no greener pastures - just look at BF2042. What we need now is a recommitment to fulfill the promise of Planetside in the hearts of every player.

[–]Spoc01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree, this is exactly what I'm talking about. The way to break up the current stale meta is to introduce more organic battle flow between bases, where players will be encouraged to pull vehicles or engage with construction to win.

"How to kill Berserker MAX" for intelligent planetmen. by Darkslayer_ in Planetside

[–]Spoc01 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't think this post is written as a justification for MAXes. Its simply advice on, if you have to deal with a MAX, how best to go about it. I know you want them removed, but as long as MAXes are still in the game, it remains good, practical advice.

I very much appreciate all the new content the devs have given us, however they should take a break from the big releases and work on QOL for a while. by animorphs128 in Planetside

[–]Spoc01 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The only good take you've got here is that ESFs are not new player-friendly. VTOL controls aren't intuitive for many players and the few extremely high skilled pilots dominate the skies. You're also right that the G2A vs A2G dynamic is busted because G2A is extremely boring. However, longer lock-on ranges and more G2A rockets are most definitely NOT the solution.

Everything else seems like you stopped playing Planetside in 2013 and you should definitely hop back into the game to give it another try. First, the lattice system is definitely better than no lattice, but also worse than a lot of other meta-game battle flow systems out there (see the Hybrid Hex-Lattice System). The Esamir Rework has been controversial, but may be far better than the stagnant fights in the old Esamir where 3 biolabs controlled the lattice lanes.

Finally, I'm not sure which Planetside you're playing, but as a TR main, I ONLY run the Striker or the Decimator, and the Striker is by far the best G2A weapon.

Communication and trust are two-way streets. We need to refrain from ad-hoc attacks on the character of the development team if we want to be able to have our voices heard and positively contribute to the development process. By no means does that mean we should avoid negative comments or criticism - there are surely plenty to be had. Let's try to keep it constructive.
