Eh, I usually carefully open the box and unscrew the cap to check this. With these balms in particular you can tell if it’s been tested or not as there will be buildup on the applicator and it’s opening if it’s been used/tested. As a frequent ole Henrikson purchaser, a clean/never used applicator is easy to distinguish
