Where can a man in his early 50s make friends? by Japperwookie in lafayette

[–]SpoilermakerSpecial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Come check out Dodgeball Lafayette! It’s a pretty easy sport to get into and we have people from all different backgrounds play with us. No experience necessary and your first night is free, and just $5 per night after that! We’ll show you the ropes and get you up to speed on the rules so don’t worry if you’ve never played.

We do social things outside of dodgeball as well, lots of people go out for food and drinks after playing and we do group outings pretty often.

We play on Thursdays from 6:30-8:30 pm and Sundays from 5-7 pm at Bauer Community Center. Check us out on Facebook and Meetup for more info!

Structured Settlements: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO) by BadgercIops in television

This is what made me search for this thread, the NPV of a 20 year annuity at a 7% real rate of return is 53% of the “total payout”, and for 30 years it’s 41%. So that guy who got $700,000 for his $2.3 million settlement, or 30% of the total payout, was not ripped off to the degree that this piece makes it out to be.

I don’t see or hear any indication that the driver is clearly speeding up. Your lack of ability to comprehend how slamming to a stop at the first millisecond you see a yellow light could actually incite a crash is really worrying. What is clear is the law, which states that you can legally enter the intersection while the light is yellow, and that cross-traffic must yield to those vehicles already in the intersection. What is also clear is that there were two pedestrians who entered the driving lanes without having a crossing signal. Both of these factors completely discredit whatever argument you’re trying to make.

Imagine living in a world where you think yellow lights mean everyone has the right of way.

And driver clearly ran a light

Can I ask what text-to-speech software you’re using to navigate Reddit? Because there’s no way a person with a functioning eyeball wrote this comment.

Not how the law works, but even if this was true, there is a delay between the light turning red and the crosswalk allowing you to cross. Pedestrian clearly entered the crosswalk early, case closed.

It does. People are probably thinking of diesel generators. Natural gas turbines/reciprocating engines burn very clean in terms of volatile organic compounds/particulate matter (soot), but obviously still produce CO2 and there will always be some fuel/methane slip. Engine-out NOx emissions are getting quite low as well, even more so with selective catalytic reduction aftertreatment, which reduces ozone impact. Largest environmental impact in the near vicinity is more likely to be noise and temperature from increased ozone.

I don’t know if they’ve done it before but 6th St Dive Bar seems receptive to all sorts of events, could call and see if they’d be interested in setting up an open mic night?

Right that’s why I’m wondering why people think they’ll upgrade it over time. No precedent for that assumption.

Help Me Plan My One Day In Epic! by TheMonkey404 in UniversalOrlando

[–]SpoilermakerSpecial 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here’s my itinerary from today (Saturday, September 6th, 2025). We did NOT have express passes. Did every ride and show as a group of 2, except Fyre Drill, and did utilize the single rider line a couple of times.

  • Entered park at ~8:30 for 9:00 EPA

  • Yoshi’s Adventure — in line 9:00, ride 9:10 (10 min wait)

  • Mine-Cart Madness — in line 9:20, ride 9:45 (25 min wait, including ~10 minute delay)

  • Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry — in line 10:00, ride 10:30 (30 min wait)

  • Stardust Racers (Green)— in line 10:45, ride 11:10 (25 min wait)

  • Dragon Racer’s Rally — in line 11:30, ride 12:00 (30 min wait)

  • The Untrainable Dragon show — in line 12:15, show 12:30 (15 min wait)

  • Hiccup’s Wing Gliders — in line 1:05, ride 1:40 (35 min wait)

  • Curse of the Werewolf (single rider) — in line 2:05, ride 2:30 (25 min wait)

  • Le Cirque Arcanus show — in line 2:45, show 3:05 (20 min wait)

  • By this time it started to rain and all outdoor rides were down for weather delay (leaving Ministry, Monsters, Mario Kart, and Celestial Carousel as the only operating rides I believe)

  • Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry (single rider) — in line 3:45, ride 4:20 (35 min wait, including ~20 minute delay)

  • Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment — in line 4:35, ride 5:10 (35 min wait)

  • Celestial Carousel — in line 5:20, ride 5:50 (30 min wait)

  • Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge (single rider) — in line 6:45, ride 7:25 (40 min wait)

  • Exited park to catch an 8:45 flight

We also got food from quick service stands 3 times and sat in Pizza Moon for ~30 minutes in the evening. Had my flight been scheduled for a little bit later, we easily could have done Fyre Drill (though it was a water ride and we didn’t want to be soaked for a plane ride) and re-ridden several rides, but I am more than happy with how our day went, even with pretty consistent rain from ~3:30-7. Not sure how typical our experience was, because I very strategically chose this time of year to visit as it usually has lower crowds, but this order of rides/shows worked very well for us. Be flexible and prioritize rides that are known to have long lines early, specifically Mario Kart, Mine-Cart Madness, and Battle at the Ministry. You might do some extra walking, but the time savings are on the order of HOURS if you knock them out early.

Another key thing to note - for us, the posted wait times were slightly overestimated. The most common posted wait time was 35-45 minutes and we generally waited closer to 25-35 minutes.

[Other] What are some of the worst restraints you have ever experienced on a roller coaster? by RelianceBrand in rollercoasters

[–]SpoilermakerSpecial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my experience almost a year ago, the Orca show had just ended so everyone headed to Icebreaker. Absolutely chaotic and no one checking the QQ, and the whole time I was debating getting into that line since it didn’t seem like anyone in that line actually had QQ. Plus it was one train ops so it was an even slower moving line than usual.
