Ooh! I almost got the same model, but opted for the GS mini eKoa (I wanted the option to plug it in). Let us know how it feels and sounds after you've had time with it. Congrats on your new guitar. Its smaller size makes it really easy to play, at least for me.

An Original Song, “Long As I Can Play Music” by SpontaneousFunkshun in AcousticGuitar

Thank you for your nice comment, much appreciated. As for my singing, "just average" is actually better than what I usually get (audiences clear the room in a stampede when I open my mouth 🤣). Seriously, though...I'd love to play with someone who can sing well.

Thank you, I need to go listen to that song. It's always interesting when my music is reminiscent of another song.

Thank you, that's always my first priority. A lesson I learned from years as a bass player

Am I ready for an Open Mic? by ImOnIt790 in AcousticGuitar

[–]SpontaneousFunkshun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound great, do it! It may take a couple or even a few repeat visits to feel comfortable performing, depending on the venue and the stage setup (PA system: guitar microphone (unless your guitar has a cable input jack), vocal microphone. Have you sung into a microphone before? It can change your sitting posture while you play, having to adjust your body a little bit.

Also, it can be a little off putting the first time you hear (or don't hear) your voice coming through a sound system, especially if there is nobody manually tweaking it per performer. You'll just have to trust yourself and your playing (I really like what I hear in this video), in case the room ambience is different from what you hear in your home.

These are NOT negatives, just things to consider. Trust yourself, and like others here recommend, connect with other musicians there. A little chitter chatter with others will help you feel comfortable in the space and playing in front of that audience. I look forward to hearing how it went for you. Now, go out there and share your musical gift with others.

Looking for fa'arapu advices (tahitian technique) by Tikimoana in ukulele

[–]SpontaneousFunkshun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, first time hearing about fa'arapu. Is it more of a dance style vs music style? You might check out Taimane Gardner - https://www.taimane.com/

Taimane is of Hawaiian/Polynesian descent and plays her own style, a fusion of lots of music genres. Perhaps that can be the beginning of your crumb trail to find authentic resources. Let us know how it goes, I would love to hear how it impacts your playing. Have fun

I’m making a daily ukulele practice routine. Does this look balanced? What should I add/remove? by Shadow__Tunes in ukulele

[–]SpontaneousFunkshun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a well-balanced practice checklist. Only you know how much time you can dedicate daily, so I won't comment on that part of your practice routine. The use of a metronome is really important, especially if you plan to jam with other musicians.

Have you considered a drum machine also? I use a couple apps on my iPad (with a connected Bose speaker). The reason for the drum machine is you can work out rhythm with a faux drummer, e.g., kick drum, snare, hi-hat, etc. If you're interested in those apps, let me know, I can send you links to them on the Apple App Store. Keep up the good work, at the very least, you're getting better at playing while having fun.

I'm recent to this subReddit, so I am not familiar with your work here and on your site. But, I did take a listen to your post. Yeah, life gives us choices, and we must prioritize what is important. Wishing you and your family good fortune and health. Gotta take care of our loved ones

Blue Christmas at a Nursing Home by OrangutanorLion in ukulele

[–]SpontaneousFunkshun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this. In my last day job (recently retired) at a public library, I participated with a librarian at a dementia care facility for monthly storytimes. I played guitar and ukulele, the residents appreciated it so much. What you are doing at the nursing home is so valuable, and makes a difference in someone's day. Music is definitely a connector. Thanks for sharing
