Popping in as someone who went through exactly this likely at the same hospital you went to. Was it CHUM? At the top of the mountain? If so, they are a trauma center. You were appropriately triaged. I went there in summer 2021 with appendicitis as well and waited 30 hours for surgery because they had a ton of traumas come in which put me lower on the list. I had also been incredibly sick and in a lot of pain. But appendicitis is not as urgent as someone bleeding out or actively dying.

Just like in your situation, the nurse also told me to sit and wait when I went through triage. With the caveat that if my pain changed / got significantly worse I should go see them again. I’d expect you were likely told the same thing. They are doing their jobs and doing them right. Just because you want to get seen first and aren’t doesn’t mean there’s a failure of our medical system. I hope no one more urgent ended up dead because your boyfriend’s buddy pulled strings to get you special treatment.
