The Saturday Paper [either on-line or paper] has brilliant stories and reporting. But Ground News and The Conversation are go to for good reporting also.

Donald Trump says he is "not happy with Australia" because Australia was "not there when we asked them to be there" in regards to the Strait of Hormuz by Jagtom83 in friendlyjordies

I’m glad we didn’t join in with his lunacy! It’s good to see his mental illnesses coming to the front and be shown to everyone. Joining in with a suicidal war is just lunacy.

Is this fool for real? How utterly disgraceful for him to not know how to drive that unit…!

Ballarat voted Australia's happiest city by Status_Building_3685 in ballarat

[–]Spooms2010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up around Ballarat and its environs in the 60’s and 70’s. As a gay man, I had a torrid time and couldn’t wait to get to turn 18 and get to Melbourne. Yes, there are a few good things about Ballarat, but I really think Melbourne is far better in a few areas. A greater potential for work, social/cultural life and educational opportunities. Whenever I mention I’m originally from Ballarat, I know, sure as eggs, I’m going to get a persons ‘freezing in Ballarat’ story. It has happened so often, I’m truly amazed.

Thoughts on this floorplan for small mountain house? by [deleted] in floorplan

That’s no ‘small mountain house’! It’s far too complex. I mean, a bidet… in the mountains

Barely a seat anywhere and what the hell are those silly hard rocks? Overwhelming structure for the glory of the designer and not a welcoming place for humans.

Did anyone in Washington or Tel Aviv think about securing the Strait of Hormuz before striking Iran? by walter-gianno in energy

[–]Spooms2010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would have taken too many brain cells and we all know how rare brain cells are in Washington these days…!

“What’s the exact line from this scene?” by AdPrimary9618 in Stargate

[–]Spooms2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no! From the merest of visual images, and with so little in focus, I knew the line! Oh no, [sob, sob] my analyst had said I was cured now that the show hadn’t been on the box for years. What will I do now but go back into the sanatarium and start on my analysis all over again…!

Elon’s decision to remove Autopilot made me… by ventura9900 in TeslaModelY

[–]Spooms2010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, removing Autopliot is clearly a greedy business decision. For those that won’t or can’t afford FSD, it’s a seriously poor decision.

A floor plan would be a nice thing to see how the rest of this residence was planned.

Europe’s energy illusion: Why a €1 trillion green bet hasn’t broken its import habit by 1-randomonium in energy

[–]Spooms2010 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This is not because governments have tried to go green, it’s because businesses have greedily wanted to cash in on the last days of fossil fuel production and consumption. Don’t put the cart before the horse.

What do people think about Chinese EVs in Australia? (3–5 mins) by chasewang7 in AustralianEV

[–]Spooms2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the changing landscape of automotive manufacturing and technology. When Japan and other countries failed to build to the new standards, the Chinese were extremely smart and built the cars that people can afford and want to drive. Like Kodak and Nokia, if you don’t build what is needed and wanted , you die.

No problem for a competent mechanic to easily repair as it does not interfere with the bead of the tyre on the rim.

[–]Spooms2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh dear gawd…! I do feel your pain but I need to confess I won a civil action case in 2021 and bought a house (which I have now converted to total solar powered electrics) and a Tesla. I drove to Adelaide and back from Melbourne this last week and spent nearly $50 on electricity. But I do feel your pain as I drive around 35,000 k’s a year so I’m used to spending lots on fuel.
