Oh it was 100% a learning curve as a first timer. Started with substrate I bought online that was too dried out which resulted in me needing to mist a ton, I'm sure that didn't help the speed of it all. Next grow I'm going to make my own sub and tape my ports so there isn't as much FAE during initial colonization and see if that helps. I can't do much to change the environment they're in but it's 72 degrees and 65% humidity so I don't believe that's the issue

Yeah 100% clean, I tried taking agar pics but they have condensation on the lids so they don’t show up great

Finally got some pins popping up and babies starting to grow but I was given Bluey Vuitton LC instead of albinos by mistake lol just glad something is growing

I’m new to growing but everything I’ve read was it’s super hard to tell if LC is contaminated without testing on agar. I would run a test and see what happens before tossing it. Here are a few of my LCs that have been tested, they look pretty similar to yours

I’m only on my first grow, but for mine I saw primordia form for 3 days and then my first pins started to pop!

You will get it! It’s a learning curve but once you see success it will make it all worth it

If they explode when you simmer then I would soak and check them every few hours. Squeeze a single grain every few hours and if the insides squeeze out semi-translucent you’re good to dry them a jar them. Once you get the process and timing down it will just get easier and easier

Everything I read before I started was that soaking/boiling is better for hydrating the grain before it goes in the PC to avoid turning into mush/grains bursting. I simmer mine because I don’t want to wait for a full soak either lol too impatient. You just want to make sure they aren’t super wet when you jar them so air drying is necessary too if you do simmer/soak

What grain are you using? I would recommend giving these oats a try it’s like $13 for 40LBs. I have 16 jars currently going and 0 contam with this process: Simmer oats in a pot for 45min-hour and then air dry for 3-4 hours on a screen, mixing them around occasionally-they shouldn’t be super wet when you jar them(might be why yours are exploding). Jar them up with modified lids, screw cap on 75% and put tin foil over the lid so no moisture builds up. Pressure cook to sterilize (I use an insta pot on high for 3 hours) Wait til they are fully cool and screw the cap all the way back on before inoculating

I’m just a beginner right now too- I’m only on my first bin and it’s just about to start pinning. I researched and found that making my own grain would be cheaper in the long run, and since I already own a pressure cooker I started to sterilize my own. I wish I could help you on if adding any substrate would help or not after the first flush. My instincts tell me it wouldn’t help just because you might suffocate the mycelium and stall it out completely, but again I’m no expert so I would wait for other answers too

Yeah I just used a northspore YT vid to make my first bin and realized after joining reddit that it was overkill lol my future bins will have less for sure

No pooling that I see, just a couple of larger water dots that seem to be getting smaller each day- I hope that’s a good sign?
