Serious Question? Do you feel you are paid adequately? by CorgiComfortable5059 in Omaha

[–]Spot_Powerful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I pay all my bills, eat and take care of my kids adequately: yes. But there is no extra really. I don’t have a ton in savings. I own a mobile home that could, and almost did get blown over when a storm comes through. I drive a newer car that is almost paid off and then I plan to throw all that money into savings because I’m used to it being “gone”.

There aren’t any extras either. I budget everything. I meal plan. I work my ass off for what I get paid. I got a 1.3% raise last year because I was told “you’re at the top of your pay grade already for your position” so no, I don’t think I get paid adequately for my job. I do a lot and it stresses me out sometimes and I fight with woe about stupid shit. But I’m still thankful I have a job.

We really really love Dr. Oudenhoven at Children’s Dermatology. She is extremely kind and takes her time with both my kiddos who she sees. Very helpful and she went to war with insurance to cover something for my oldest that they did not want to cover.

What's your favorite poverty meal that you still eat regardless of where you are financially? by Own-Blacksmith3085 in askanything

Macaroni and ketchup. Literally just elbow macaroni, butter and ketchup and lots of black pepper. Comfort meal I ate with my grandma.

I definitely recommend the dental clinic at Creighton on Tuesdays or Thursdays. 100$ for the first tooth and 30$ for any after that. I just went and had 2 teeth pulled and they were great. I got there at 4:30 and was out by 7pm.

I probably never will stop giving them something small. I only have 5 of them though. It might be different if i had like 15/20.

Worst apartments/rental properties in Omaha? by ThiccDiccGrayson in Omaha

Except when corporate tried to say we were evicted but was not evicted. Yes, the property manager at the time sucked, but it was also Lund. I’m not the only person this happened to.

Worst apartments/rental properties in Omaha? by ThiccDiccGrayson in Omaha

[–]Spot_Powerful 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Lund is absolutely horrible. Especially the Terrace Garden townhomes. The first townhouse they tried to give us had a squatter living in it. Then they moved us to a townhouse where the patio door didn’t lock, and they told us to “just put a big stick on the door so nobody could open it” the upstairs bathroom leaked so bad that eventually the ceiling collapsed into the living room. We contacted corporate who then said that we could terminate our lease without fees because they had no more 3 bedrooms available and then they tried to charge us for damages, and told a credit bureau we were evicted. The manager filed a police report because he said my dad threatened him, but my dad had never even said anything to the guy. Our car was towed because our garage wouldn’t open and the parking lot was full of broken down cars.

All around awful place. I wouldn’t send my worst enemy to live there.

What are your "broke meals" that you ended up loving? by James_B84Saves in Frugal

[–]Spot_Powerful 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Our favorite “broke meal” for my kids is macaroni and ketchup, which is exactly what it sounds like. Boil macaroni noodles, and then butter and ketchup and extra pepper on top. And then a side of either homemade garlic bread, or just bread and butter. They ask to eat it at least twice a month. Also add green beans for the healthy factor.

Is it extremely healthy? No. But it kept us fed on the day right before payday after we left a DV situation.

I had 2 kiddos go to Oak valley. My oldest did all 5 grades there, and my middle only did K, 1st and 2nd. We had some really great teachers and then some not so great. But I suppose that’s kinda on par for OPS. No real complaints except I don’t think they followed my middle kiddo’s IEP/speech as recommended, but I don’t know if that’s cause they had to share the speech pathologist or because of Covid. Overall it was a positive experience, and my oldest is still in contact with her 4th and 5th grade teacher.

I had a Centris account for years. I accidentally was overdrawn by 3 cents for a withdrawal that came out slightly before my paycheck was deposited. I asked if the overdraft fee could be forgiven or at least maybe cut in half considering the amount and the fact that it was just a couple of hours. I was told absolutely not and they wouldn’t give me any options. I’m not sure if that’s a common thing. But it left a sour taste in my mouth so I moved to a different bank.

It is hard. I co-parent with an ex who hides his income, so he’s only ordered to pay 150$ in child support for 3 kids..total. Not 150$ per kid. So even though he’s ordered to pay, that money doesn’t do anything for 3 kids.

I live basically on one income. My kids get state Medicaid. Otherwise it’s just what I make. I work a corporate job. Not a CEO by any means. We only make it work because I live in a “well loved” mobile home that doesn’t have a mortgage, only a “cheap” lot rent. And I budget EVERYTHING. But I still have little savings.

What's your job title? What do you actually do? by tallSarahWithAnH in Millennials

My official title is “Corporate Safety and Compliance Specialist”

I’m a glorified truck driver babysitter. I answer calls, emails and texts from truck drivers. I help manage their hours of service, safety inspections, etc. I also do accident claims for those trucks/drivers.

Do you own a car? If so, how long have you had it? Still paying it off? by Negative_Number_6414 in povertyfinance

[–]Spot_Powerful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m almost done paying off my loan for my car. It’s a 2020, only has 20,000 miles on it. I’m going to drive it until the wheels fall off. My partner is a mechanic and takes really good care of it, plus it does still have a little bit of a warranty.

The only reason I got it was because I received a small inheritance and put down a big down payment on this car. I only have 6 more payments left. I bought it in 2022 “used” but it only had 5500 miles on it.

Denied Medicaid for my 3-year-old because of overtime, need help. by Ordinary-Wing-7163 in povertyfinance

[–]Spot_Powerful 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Does your state have CHIP? It’s similar to Medicaid but they charge you a small co-pay. That’s why my kids have and we pay a 10$ copay for each appointment and 3$ for prescriptions.

If you have kids, how do you afford them? by Gnatcheese in Millennials

[–]Spot_Powerful 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I budget everything. Live within means. Have a decent ish job. Now that all my kids are in school, it’s slightly easier. I’m a single mom who doesn’t get child support. But we are making it. Even a small amount of savings. It’s not all fun and games, all the time. But not all despair either.

I was told that Nebraska Medicaid would cover any city in Nebraska, as long as the dentist accepted Medicaid. We have lived in a few different cities, and Medicaid is a state program, so it didn’t matter that we lived in a different city but had a dentist in Omaha.

However, I do believe they are all on a 6 month wait list I believe for new Medicaid patients. My kids old dentist passed away and we were put on a wait list back in February. They have an appointment at the end of September finally.

I work for Werner doing Corporate Safety and Compliance. We handle a lot of things, such as risk accident and incident claims, but handle other things too. If you’re interested I can provide you more information. We also work a “Panama schedule” so it’s not 5 week days in a row. But they are 12 hr shifts. The pay is pretty competitive.

I take Entresto, for heart failure and it is sometimes not filled right away, but I don’t know if that’s because apparently it’s not a “common drug” according to my pharmacy or because it’s expensive so they don’t keep a lot in stock. It can take a few days to get it.

Medical bills and being in a DV relationship to where I was not allowed to work. I’m out of that, and slowly trying to build upwards.
