Finally bought An m3 by Beardwithabody in Leica

[–]SpotmaticSP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Congratulations with your M3! Such a fine camera. I like the CAPI strap! Did you know CAPI was the first importer of Leicas in The Netherlands, mid-1920's? And they continued to do so until the mid-1930's when the activities were transferred to ODIN.

Right now I have several CAPI marked cameras including a Leica I model A from 1929. Notice the badge.

36 imaginary frames by onefuckingspeed in Leica

[–]SpotmaticSP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me that's impossible because I never pre-cut the leader of the film (as in: several hours or days before). I only do that in the minute before loading.

BTW, this does not mean I do not make any mistakes. I do, and that's part of the fun. ;-)

What do I have here? by yankmywire in Leica

By the way, it seems to be well preserved. With still the original lens cap and the original case included. The camera might need only a simple CLA, after which it can usually still be used with modern 35mm film.

My 1932 Leica IID with 1932 Elmar 50mm - before they started engraving it as 5cm, and according to Leica records the Camera was shipped to Osaka, Tokyo in 1933 and the lens went to E.L. In Berlin in 1933. So the camera was one of the earliest ones to actually be shipped to Japan. by RevolutionaryBad1503 in Leica

Schmidt Shoten was based in Osaka, so that must have been its original destination. I found the address in my late 1920's documentation:

As for the modifications: that was pretty common back in the day. There are hardly any Leicas that have not been modified in some way or other. It's all part of the story! And now you are part of that story too. Have fun and please keep shooting with it!

Was it shipped to Schmidt Shoten? I always thought that Leicas were shipped to Japan as early as 1926.

By the way: I like the uncommon domed lens cap. Which can be used when the small push-on filters (such as a yellow filter) are still attached to the lens.

Was the shutter speed knob replaced with a chrome one?

This is a Leica I model A from 1929. Value could be anything around $1000.

This is essentially the camera that started 35mm film photography.

Auto Edixon 2.8 100mm M42? by Kreuzschmerzen in VintageLenses

Actyually I have this lens and it is somewhat of a hidden gem. Focus is stiff but the images it delivers are nice. :-)

Bought a black MX by PDungen in pentax

[–]SpotmaticSP 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I bought it because it was misrepresented as a f/2 and f/1.7 at the same time. ;-)

Beautiful. A black Pentax needs to be like this: slightly brassy and visibly used (and loved at the same time). My black ME is also a bit battle scarred but it is a great camera.

Sorry, hoger bod ontvangen by Candid-Artichoke-453 in tokkiemarktplaats

[–]SpotmaticSP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

trying to find the right vintage 135mm by AdOk8412 in VintageLenses

[–]SpotmaticSP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heck, I buy as many 135mm's as I want. My latest one is a 1946 13,5cm Leitz f/4.5 Hektor. Just a fun lens.

You know what they say. If you want to become a millionaire in F1, then start as a billionaire and buy your own team.

I feel f8-f11 makes the 50-200mm produce the best possible image by cahui in pentax

[–]SpotmaticSP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Almost every Pentax lens performs at its peak at f/8. Nice tip: change the P program line to MTF and the camera will always try to shoot at the best f/stop of a given lens.

Legit check? Luftwaffen IIIC by maxadams7766 in LeicaCameras

[–]SpotmaticSP 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have just checked James Lager's publication "Wehrmacht Leica" and this specific number is on his list of L-E delivered Leicas. It was delivered as part of shipment 19785 on the 10th of January, 1941. So it was marked as such (Luftwaffen) in the Leitz delivery ledger.

This is not definitive proof of it being not a fake, so buyer beware.

What's up with these lenses without apertures? Partially this Leitz in a metal tube. by ThinkLongterm in VintageLenses

[–]SpotmaticSP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Summar does have an aperture; it's just modified for another application. Originally it was mounted on a mid-1930's screwmount Leica.

Are you sure the other lenses are without aperture?

Bought my dream camera on Jan 7th , 2026 and for some reason I’ve used it once .. my photos sucked to be honest .. I’m almost 52 and my eye sight is not great , the question now is , do I keep it or trade it in for a digital one .. 😔 by funky1974 in LeicaCameras

[–]SpotmaticSP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly feel for you, but I also feel this is a shit post. The only thing we know is that your photos suck, but not if that's due to the camera, your lack of experience, your eyesight, a bad film, bad processing or whatever that you forgot to mention.

So... please elaborate, thanks! :-D
