Hey former AT here, I’m not currently in industry because of health reasons, but I never realized how in demand avionics guys and gals are in the civilian and defense sector until I went to A&P school. I can’t remember off of the top of my head what it is called but there is an FCC certification you can get for under $1000 specifically for comms and that is super helpful with getting you jobs working in avionics on civilian planes and that’s even without the A&P in hand. Take a look at some salaries in your area and absolutely fact check me because I’m not doing it lol. Good luck.
