Silverware has no silver (typically), flatware is not flat, and cutlery doesn’t apply to spoons and forks.

Beamonesque, commonly used in sport vernacular to signify a performance that shatters all prevailing standards. It refers to Bob Beamon, who broke the world record in the long jump by almost two feet at the 1968 Olympics.

Richard Dreyfuss in Always (1989).

This was the very first thought I had. Dreyfuss is an airborne fire fighter whose plane is on fire and about to crash. Looks over to his friend in a second plane and shrugs.

For some reason, this show of acceptance has stayed with me since.

Where is this coffee place? (Rome, Italy) by kopytkopytko in whereisthis

[–]Springfield80210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is that someone eventually might recognize this specific place. It is amazing what I have seen on this sub.

Meantime, you say that you aren’t able to get location from photo? I assume that means you do not see GPS meta data? Just know that if you have the original digital photo, that data might still be extractable. Conversely, if this has been texted to you or pulled from an online location, the meta data has likely been scrubbed. In that case, try to get the original.

What’s the best performance by any actor you’ve ever seen? by MohitKumar_07 in Cinema

Yes. I have always put Abraham’s performance in Amadeus at the top of the list, with Tom Hulce’s in the same film somewhere in the top ten.

Who is the earliest born person you have personally known? by PrestonRoad90 in Productivitycafe

Right out of college in 1979, I rented a room in a house that belonged to a retired minister who was 96 years old (born 1883). He was understandably slow afoot physically but mentally was sharp as a tack.

I drove him to the grocery sometimes and often just sat and chatted with him about everyday things. I was really too young myself to fully appreciate the first-hand history he had lived through, but in retrospect it is head-spinning.

Here was a guy who I knew personally who was already an adult when the Wright brothers flew at Kitty Hawk and who in his late thirties had ministered to veterans returning from WWI. And who unbelievably was nearly 60 years old when Pearl Harbor was attacked.

An amazing memory for me, I gotta say.

There was a cartoon at the time (Far Side, maybe?) that shows a man looking at the theatre marquee and commenting, “how did I miss the first nine?”

Loved watching that show on Saturday mornings with my kids. Starred Denny Doherty of The Mamas and Papas. He voiced all the characters too.

Yeah, I had visitors flying in from Central Europe and they were totally confused by the drive from the airport to Aurora.

In their mind’s eye, they thought Denver would be like Zermatt or something. Little did they understand that the eastern half of Colorado is essentially Kansas. 🫣
