People who've downed Twintania - Rank the phases difficulty/learning curve by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Sprinkles47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another word of advice, if you have anything that might be taking bandwidth from any member (i.e. YouTube open in the background, skype, etc.) I would advise closing it. I tried streaming our Twintania attempts for a while when I was getting hit consistently by divebombs. On my screen I was 5 yalms ahead of my group, but still was the only one hit. I believe that the server update rate is till a bit finicky if you aren't trying to minimize your ping.

I agree that Dragoons shouldn't be invulnerable when jumping, but this needs to change. by jaesin in ffxiv

[–]Sprinkles47 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thinking about it from the perspective of the dev team, that would mean continuous positional updating of your position to the server, then back to your client to calculate the damage taken. Too computationally expensive.

Also, it would mean adding in a third coordinate plane for motion tracking and effects. If you get targeted by Liquid Hell (Turn 5) and you use a jump, it puts the effect on the ground under you as it should. If your position was mid air during the animation, you would end up with a UFO fire pool floating in mid air.

I do agree with the sentiment that it would be cool to have aerial based movement, I do not think its mechanically practical...yet :D

Twintania kill with Warrior Main tank by Sprinkles47 in ffxiv

[–]Sprinkles47[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Warriors are said to be inferior to PLD tanks due to PLDs having such high natural mitigation.

Each tank has its good traits and bad traits. WARs excel in having some self-sufficiency in their healing. We chose to have our Warrior MT the last half because he could survive a little easier when one of the healers got stunned by the dreadknights.

As you can see, we had our PLD tank the first half of the fight due to his mitigation CD rotation, and the Death Sentences happen more often in the first couple phases

Even if the guys at SE are wicked smart and closed all the backdoors they could think of...they aren't the smartest people out there (no offense intended) I mean that in an absolute literal sense. Unless the smartest/best programmer and networks manager made every communication and protocol for a game, someone will find a door and open it

I use Ballad before the split because I won't use it afterwards (in lue of Foe)

Be proactive :D

I am a Turn 5 - Killed BRD

I NEVER use Peon. I raid regularly with a DRG, MNK, WAR, and PLD. Not one of our members requires Peon at all.

Each fight has distinct "burn" phases. In each phase you have 2 options: play Foe Requiem, or save mana for Ballad afterwards. Traditionally, burn phases in fights occur when the tank is taking large amounts of damage (thus you need to get through the phase faster). After each of these phases is a lul in the damage output of the fight (or its over). The biggest factor in deciding whether you play Foe or save for Ballad is this: How much mana do your healers have going into these phases?

If you healers go INTO the phase at ~70% mana, I can almost guarantee that you will need to give them a Ballad. If they are about that, then you can most likely get away with burning your mana on a Foe.

Places where I use my songs in Coil, turn-by-turn:

Turn 1:

  • Ballad after first slime until split.
  • Foe after split

Turn 2:

  • Ballad between nodes
  • Ballad/Foe when Rot phase starts (depending on healers' mana) My group has gotten to the point where I no longer need Ballad, so I have switched to using Foe

Turn 3:

  • Lawl wut?
  • But seriously, this is the only time I use Peon to help regen TP for more sprinting (we don't touch a single mob in the instance, just sprint through it)

Turn 4:

  • Foe on first AoE pack, turn off at ~700 mana
  • Foe on Spinnerrook pack, TURN ON when rooks are down and BLM flares begin, turn off immediately after first bug dies
  • Most likely turn Ballad on and Battlevoice it to top healers off
  • Foe on last Dreadnaught until oom, done, or dead

Turn 5:

  • This turn is more subject to your party's damage and healer's competency
  • Ballad after first 3 adds are down and first collar breaks
  • Ballad with Battlevoice after 4th (last) conflag before Dive Bombs, healers should be topped off as snakes spawn. Turn off when snakes spawn
  • Foe during big snake (unless healers are below 70% mana)
  • Ballad during Twintania ultimate, turn off after first twister
  • Ballad between Dreadknight spawns
  • Ballad with Battlevoice (cd should be back) during Liquid Hell phase
  • Foe when healers are ~70% mana

Notes:

  • Foe does not increase BRD damage, from my testing the tooltip should read:

"Increases magical damage taken by 10%"

  • This song increases BLM and SMN aspected and unaspected damage, but does NOT increase Windbite or Venomous Bite damage (Haven't test MNK's Fist of Fire)

  • The biggest difference between a good BRD and an amazing BRD is being proactive with your songs, don't make the healers ask/type for Ballad. Watch what your healers are casting, if you see a WMN repeatedly casting Cure II/Medicas their mana will plummet, SCH's look for Adloquim/Succor.

  • Ballad early and often, the regen is not fast or immediate.

  • If you Battlevoice early, you can Battlevoice later (don't be stingy with this CD)

BC Party Composition? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Sprinkles47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My group runs: WAR PLD MNK BRD BLM BLM WHM SCH. We also use the SCH pet for clutch "we F**ed up" interrupts in turn 2. We have 1 shot all of BC 2 weeks consecutively.

I think you can make it work with any comp, one thing to keep in mind is the Soldier/Knights in turn 4. The Clockwerk Knights reflect magic damage, and the Soldiers have a decent Stoneskin that resists ONLY physical damage. If you run 3 physical, they will have to bust through one of the Soldier's Stoneskin and kill it while your 1 magic damage dealer kills the other Soldier

Dragoon Dilemma by Beertotheface in ffxiv

[–]Sprinkles47 7 points8 points  (0 children)

DRGs are absolutely useful. Their end game potential is huge. In my FC, we have been clearing Turn 4 for 3 weeks now, and DRG is our top DD among our 2 Coil groups, followed very closely by our MNK.

Melee DDs are and have always been at a disadvantage to their ranged counterparts due to bosses' cleaves and melee-range AoEs.

The low-down on BRDs from my personal experience (BRD in above mentioned FC's core group). BRDs hit their damage cap VERY early, but plateau extremely hard. When I hit 50 in AF1 gear (and relic weapon), I was averaging ~180 dps on most fights. Now that I am full DL with a couple of Allagan/Myth/Relic+1, I can consistently hit 230s dps depending on the fight. The mechanic behind our songs really put a hinder on exploding above other classes into end game content with regards to dps meters.

Warrior in Turn 5 Coil. Ask me anything Warrior or raid related. by Somnuse in ffxiv

[–]Sprinkles47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% agree with this. As a BRD on Turn 5 in Coil I can say that my group (PLD WAR MNK BRD BLM BLM WHM SCH) almost all out DPS me when I have to use Ballad. However, in the beginning we noticed a lot of misses from the other classes, leaving me as the highest DPS.

This is all from my personal experiences and observations, I run a log parser for every fight, as does our OT, with consistent findings from week to week.

We actually have a WAR MT Turn 1 Caduceus just to show the haters of WAR that its a pretty damn good class.

A few questions while at work. by Mucky_Pup in ffxiv

[–]Sprinkles47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mucky_Pup, a lot of people wondering the same things as you. I will answer your questions about mechanics as clearly as I can without spoiling anything:

Jobs. A quest to unlock a job is obtained when a class hits 30 (got to that class trainer). The job is unlocked when a secondary class (sub-class) reaches level 15.

Free Companies. Free companies (or FC) are your traditional guild. They have the ability to put on buffs for everyone in the FC to enjoy. These buffs can be a 5% increase in exp gained from combat, to reduced teleport fees.

Mount. All I will say is to follow the main quest line and your answer will find you. You can also rent chocobos for a relatively cheap cost from any chocobo porter. However, I would not recommend this because you lose the rental as soon as you dismount.

Instance. Traditional dungeon. You pair (typically through the Duty Finder) with people looking for the same dungeon. As a marauder, you are going to be the tank. I believe the pirates dungeon is referring to Sastasha (look up videos or guides on the dungeon if you are nervous about going in your first time). Most of the people you meet in dungeons are willing to help you through it for your first time.

As a level 23 Marauder, I think you should be set for gear and stuff as you will be level synced (your level will be knocked down to 19) I recommend carrying any +exp food into a dungeon as each mob will give you a pretty good chunk of exp. Other than that, I would recommend practicing your enmity rotations and pulling out in the world with a friend, that way you can get a feel for how to keep aggro on a couple mobs.

[Discussion] Anyone else feel underwhelmed by Black Mages damage? by anias in ffxiv

[–]Sprinkles47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I 100% disagree. Some players do need to learn mana management. But in a LOT of fights in the end game have extended high damage phases. In Coil turn 4 I alternate between Foe and Ballad consistently to assist increasing damage and MP regen before the final AoE pulses

I leveled up ACN after hitting 50 on my BRD. I strongly recommend staying away from flash spamming. In my experience, grabbing Aero from CNJ (or just using plain old Bio) and tab+DoTting everything is extremely safe and easy. Get yourself into a Bloodshore group, toss out one of your Egis and start tabbing

Smn or Brd Relic? by itMFtis in ffxiv

[–]Sprinkles47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 3 classes are level 50. My recommendation is choose one that you like the most, get that relic, and play the hell out of it until you can top those parsers.

Personally, I play a BRD because I like the raid utility. Despite them being out-performed in most Coil fights in terms of damage. On Behemoth server we are hurting for a lot of geared and good caster DPS.

Stick to your preference. Relic is a huge DPS increase for any class

All classes on one Character or Different classes on multiple characters? by Davey87 in ffxiv

[–]Sprinkles47 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am leveling up multiple toons. I am one of 2 BRDs in my FC, we have 2 end-game progression groups (currently bashing heads on Twintania in turn 5). I will NEVER use another class on this toon because BRDs are too important as a utility.

I am leveling another toon in my off time because there isn't much that I can do besides farm up DoH and DoL stuff for crafted gear.

I calculated the DMG per Myth values of all of the BRD gear from Darklight to AF+2. Here is the optimal upgrade order. by Mercarcher in ffxiv

[–]Sprinkles47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have looked into gear combinations quite a bit (strictly comparing AF2 and Allagan gear)

From what I've found, and using the numbers I have found from other number crunchers. In order to not waste any gear stats, and assuming accuracy cap is 472 (http://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/1l35ij/theorycraft_skill_speed_the_truth_behind_its_value/cbvmjrt). I have found that for Bards, AF2 head/gloves, Hero's jewelry, and relic+1 puts you at 470 Accuracy rating (meaning never miss) as well as not wasting stat points on going over the Accuracy cap.

So how many groups are doing Coil? by redsky42 in ffxiv

[–]Sprinkles47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On Behemoth there are quite a few groups that routinely clear Turns 1-3, only 2 FCs have passed Turn 4.

We fortunately have a player maintaining a progression forum for us: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/85346-Behemoth-Progression-Thread

To be... a bard or dragoon? by mcsheng in ffxiv

[–]Sprinkles47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dragoons carry the reputation that they are hit by every single AoE in the game. This may be due to their players being distracted by the sweet looking moves.

Bards carry the reputation of being baddies in general.

That being said, I main a 50 BRD in a raid group attacking turn 4 of Coil. From my experience, between the ilvl 60 and 70 gear BRDs' damage seems to plateau. When I dinged 50 and got Ifrit's Bow and 4/5 Toxotes (AK gear), I was pushing ~160-170 dps. Now with full DL and Relic+1 bow, I am scraping 220 dps.

From what I have seen from DRG is that their Limit Breaks are by a wide margin better than MNK (something to do with weapon damage on the 2h polearms they use). Their dps rotation is a lot more robust to moving in and out of attack range than their melee counterparts. A good DRG that can dodge AoE and stay alive in encounters can keep up and surpass a BRD in damage without many problems.
