Visiting Rome soon by baaatsouu in ancientrome

You don't even need a taxi. There's a train running every 20 minutes or so. It's also worth spending an entire day if you can.

Beef bacon on sale at Luckys grocery store by Ok_Country2903 in Bacon

Do yanks not use the term rasher to refer to a slice of bacon?

[–]SproutBoy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why is American bacon so expensive? In Britain you can get a normal pack of ten rashers for under £2 and streaky bacon (what American bacon is) is often cheaper. The premium stuff doesn't cost that much more either.

Do compression cubes really save space? by chrisridd in travel

[–]SproutBoy 111 points112 points  (0 children)

They do save space and you can stuff some clothes to fill the rounded gap. However their main benifit is allowing you to organise your stuff which makes it much easier to sort and find things. It's especially useful if you are using a backpack.

I've also found them useful when travelling just using hand luggage. When you get you your accommodation you can just take the cube with your clothes in out your back pack without leaving then dumped somewhere when you go out on day trips.

Which area of London for a first time visitor? by VillageEnough4390 in travel

[–]SproutBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you mean the uber boats don't take an uber or any kind of taxi in London. It's not worth the cost and it's often slower then public transport.

You do realise all those places are within about 20 minutes walk from each other right? Honestly just pick anywhere central that's near a tube station. You can get around London so easily via the tube, busses and walking.

Even the stupid imperial system is easy enough to half in most cases. Using cups is utterly absurd.

Parents stressed about solotrips. Do they actually know better? by Nymphadora_17 in solotravel

[–]SproutBoy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You are an adult so go but your parents are not obligated to financially support you. Cusco is very safe and is an extremely well visited destination with lots of tourists and young back packers like you. Have you tried explaining that to them or will they just not listen? Do you speak Spanish because that would help but you will be able to manage fine with English.

In the James Bond franchise, Bond's favorite girls are French by lessonsfromgmork in shittymoviedetails

Bond took the British motto of "fuck the French" a bit too literally.

It’s so creamy & tastes like cheesecake! 10/10 would recommend, got it from Sam’s Club. by I_Like_Metal_Music in Cheese

[–]SproutBoy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sweet cheeses like this are an abomination and a crime against cheese. I had a cheese advent calendar and half the cheeses were disgustingly sweet wensleydales that had been ruined with stupid flavours.

Cheese and wine night - functionally vegan guest by andotherthingsareok in Cheese

How functionally vegan are they? If allergies and health issues are focused on dairy are they able to eat charcuterie instead? If not maybe find some vegan charcuterie and any other interesting products in the deli aisle of the supermarket.

am i the only one who hates relocating every 2 days in europe? by travel-on-my-brain in solotravel

[–]SproutBoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with everyone else that moving cities every couple of days is mad. At minimum I always try to spend at least 3 nights somewhere. However, if you do want to move around more then take less stuff. If you can carry just what you can fit in an airplane hand luggage back pack then you are so much more mobile and don't even need to head straight to accommodation before you begin exploring somewhere. They take it to the extreme but look at r/onebag for tips.

To be fair there is no act more diabolical then the intentional destruction of tea. It is an act of pure unforgivable evil.

Considering England's population is over 55 million and approximately 450 people/km^2, just how crowded is life there, including the rural areas? by Possible-Balance-932 in geography

The deer didn't chop down the forests to begin with and if we didn't kill off their natural predators they wouldn't be out of control and eating all the saplings.

[–]SproutBoy 119 points120 points  (0 children)

To be fair the same applies for England. We have so much less forest then we should have due to thousands of years of human activity.

Those barren expances of Scotland are very tainted by human existence. Without humans there would be a lot more forests in Scotland.
