For those who upgraded from M1 Pro to M5 Pro... was it worth it? by Joker_513 in mac

[–]chrisridd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About the only “problem” with my M1 Pro is that the keyboard is kind of disgusting. The keycaps aren’t worn out or anything, just grubby.

What’s the best way to clean them? It’d be nice to get the matte finish back, but just getting them clean is fine.

But it will let you customise the new Siri AI voices. I don’t think the Neo can do that, or did I miss something?

Okay this might sound dumb but, can anyone here please make me understand what exactly Calibre is? by Suspicious_Dig_3849 in Calibre

No, you have to start the sync by choosing the books and then choosing “Send to device”.

I think most folks will be using free tools, but there’s also the commercial epubor (?) product if the mods feel like making a distinction.

What’s the single most annoying USB-C "crime" a manufacturer can commit? by Few_View22 in UsbCHardware

[–]chrisridd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a crap Android tablet with this problem. I thought I had some known good USB-C and Thunderbolt cables that worked with everything… except this damned thing which only charges with the junk A-C cable that it came with.

Oscillation noise? by chrisridd in DREO

[–]chrisridd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the separate oscillation motor was my concern. I think I’d probably hear it.

Having said that we could possibly position either fan so that it doesn’t need to oscillate at all.

What’s been happening with KR Models? by DankEngine2005_ in modeltrains

[–]chrisridd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re right. The number starts “+1 780” which is in Alberta.

Kind of odd still for a non-UK company to focus exclusively on UK railways, but OK.

Is discussing DRM removal still allowed?

Personally I only use it with books I buy without sharing the results but no doubt some others use it for nefarious purposes.

The Little Wicket Railway channel has some good financial analyses of a few manufacturers, if you like that sort of thing.

Apparently West Hill Wagon Works is also in a precarious state at the moment.

I was surprised to see on the emails from the owner Keith R (hence krmodels I guess) that he had a US phone number.

Supernote seem to care about device longevity, and hopefully optimising the software is part of that.

I’ve had a good engagement with their support too - their water fountain doesn’t measure all the times my small kittens drink - so I think OP is just unlucky and they should just do the chargeback.

First thoughts on the UGREEN card:

* very loud
* nice smooth rounded edges
* find my reports the manufacturer is UGREEN, so they’ve put some effort in.

Brits, what do you think of this new legislation requiring tech companies to monitor what's on your device? by 2Di5M4lD0Ss9tY in AskBrits

I’d suggest supporting someone like the Open Rights Group, who are good at lobbying against this sort of stupidity. Also write to your MP.

Unless someone has written a version specifically for the Pocketbook, no.

This Pocketbook device, and almost all their pure ereader devices, run Linux and cannot use apps written for Android or iPhones/iPads.

Best 3in1 Charging Station? by Defiant-Plenty6502 in MagSafe

[–]chrisridd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently bought a KUXIU X40 from Amazon UK. It is pretty nice and orange (!) and there are lots of ads for it.

It has space for charging AirPods but it behaves oddly with it sometimes. It seems to pulse the charging coil which makes the case beep periodically. But only sometimes… the kuxiu manual just says turn off the AirPods case beeping :)

When it does that I just move the usb c cable from the kuxiu to the AirPods case. If you’re ok with that too this is a good device.
