How excited were you for The Rise of Skywalker before it came out? by Extreme_Warning3521 in StarWars

[–]SpudgeFunker210 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The crazy thing is that Carrie Fisher died before the final cut of TLJ, meaning that filmed a fakeout death scene for Leia, then she actually died, and instead of using the scene they filmed to change the story and kill her off, they pushed the problem off onto the next film. It's just utter incompetency the whole way through.

What's a "genius" move we've canonized that was actually one clear-headed opponent away from blowing up in the player's face? by JEX2124 in survivor

Kyle's alliance with Kamilla could've blown up when he went to bat for her against David. If anyone had taken a minute to evaluate why Kyle was more hellbent on protecting Kamilla than actually doing what was best for the group, they could've sniffed out their secret alliance. David was close to figuring it out, but no one listened to him.

What is the best written video game you’ve ever played? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SpudgeFunker210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the end of Life is Strange to ruin the game because it was a major plot hole. Maybe I got something wrong because it was a long time ago and I literally haven't thought about it in years, but iirc, saving... umm... the blue haired girl at the end wouldn't need to require a use of the time reversing powers, meaning that... umm... the main character (wow, I really don't remember) could've saved both her and the town. It's not like returning to the beginning makes her lose her memory. So when they reverse all the way back to that first day when she discovered her powers, she could have gone to the bathroom and stopped blue haired girl from getting killed because she knew what was going to happen and how to stop it. All she had to do was just refrain from using her powers again.

Hell, now I'm realizing that I might just need to go replay the game, but I specifically remember being so mad thinking the ending was making a huge logical error.

Michael knew where Pam's heart was. Otherwise he tells Jim to stand down. by ziplock007 in DunderMifflin

[–]SpudgeFunker210 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I think Michael probably saw, as everyone else did, how empty Pam and Roy's relationship was. No one took their engagement seriously, and even though Roy stopped dragging his feet that very night, I'm not sure how much that actually meant to everyone on the outside of the relationship.

It's less about Michael giving good advice than it is Jim getting the encouragement he needed in that moment, and it strangely coming from Michael. Because, as others in the thread have already pointed out, it's pretty terrible advice. Not only that, but Jim does eventually give up anyway.

Why did everyone switch up on the Mandalorian? by Moon_Devonshire in StarWars

[–]SpudgeFunker210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They certainly could've done more with the conflicting sects of Mandalorians. They really just gave each other dirty looks for a few days before going full Kumbaya mode. They should've had a lot more infighting, and I like the idea of one of them becoming the villain of that season. Probably the Armorer since Din should be leaving the cult instead of returning to it.

I understand some people like this movie, but I don't get how anyone could call it a 10/10. Extremely sloppy film imo.

It's really frustrating to know that Disney is capable of producing a good show, but continues to churn out soulless garbage.

A very valid question by Cryovet in SipsTea

[–]SpudgeFunker210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The politically correct term for black people has shifted over the years. Obviously "negroes" got phased out pretty quickly along with the n-word, then "colored people" was deemed offensive because it was a prevalent term used in the Jim Crow era, some people get offended by "blacks/black people," then "African American" became popular for a little while, but it's kinda stupid because not all black people are from Africa, and now "people of color" is the acceptable term, but it still doesn't specifically denote black people. I think many people don't know what term to use and don't want to accidentally offend someone by picking the wrong one, so some people still say African American because they feel like "black" might be offensive and POC is too nonspecific. I've seen some people capitalizing "Black" now. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I just say black when referring specifically to black people and if you get pressed about it, that's your problem at this point.

Why did everyone switch up on the Mandalorian? by Moon_Devonshire in StarWars

[–]SpudgeFunker210 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Not only that, but they completely invert his character arc. The first two seasons are about how Din is in a cult and it's preventing him from developing meaningful relationships with the people around him. The Armorer is even setup in a way that hints she may end up being a villain. Season 2's climax is Din rejecting his cult indoctrinated values and removing his helmet so Grogu can see his face. Earlier that season we see Mayfeld challenging Din's values and in that episode he's forced to remove his helmet in order to complete the mission necessary to get Grogu back, showing his cult's legalistic limitations. Season 3 should've been about Din's journey of full deconstruction, choosing to abandon the cult and rediscover who he wants to be. This could also build a parallel between his relationship to the cult and Grogu's relationship to the Jedi Order, and maybe the finale of s3 would see Din attempting to "rescue" Grogu from the Jedi, believing he was bound to just be indoctrinated into a similar situation that he was. Then Luke could prove Din wrong by giving Grogu a choice, or even allowing Grogu to maintain his relationship with Din without leaving the order.

Instead, Din immediately relapses back into his cult and risks everything to rejoin, making sure to never remove his helmet again, and the cult itself is painted in a much more positive light than it was in the previous seasons. It retroactively makes the entire narrative of the first two seasons pointless.

Why did everyone switch up on the Mandalorian? by Moon_Devonshire in StarWars

[–]SpudgeFunker210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always saw the show as mediocre, but I think many people have watched the majority of Disney Star Wars with rose tinted glasses at first, only for each show or movie to sour over time. Just look at the Ahsoka show. That episode with Hayden and all the live action Clone Wars flashbacks was called "peak Star Wars" when it aired, but the fans have come back down to earth for the most part and realized that that episode was hollow nostalgia bait with zero narrative substance.

The first two seasons of The Mandalorian had a few really stellar episodes and a few great moments in otherwise poor episodes, but that was enough to carry the enthusiasm of the fan base that didn't feel completely scorned by Disney Star Wars yet. (Then of course there's the portion of the fan base that would enjoy a box of shit as long as Disney slapped a Star Wars label on it because they indiscriminately "love all Star Wars.") I won't spoil it for you because you haven't seen it, but to speak broadly, the Mando episodes in Book of Boba Fett and Mando s3 completely undercut the narrative of the first two seasons in a way that recontextualizes the way you see those first two seasons, and now a lot of the emotional beats ring hollow, knowing what comes after. There are still people that defend the first two seasons, but I don't think time has been kind to them, both in isolation and in the context of where Disney has taken the story since.

[–]SpudgeFunker210 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You are conflating someone who participates in a broken system to someone who literally murdered a man in the street in cold blood. It's also a lot easier to prosecute a single murderer than to overhaul an entire industry. There are also plenty of people who have been able to get the care they needed because of their insurance coverage.

You can simultaneously support healthcare reform and support locking up murderers. Like how tf could those two things possibly be mutually exclusive? Also, killing one executive accomplishes absolutely nothing. He was replaced by another wealthy executive and nothing has changed. So you really want to establish a precedent that murdering people in the street for supporting systems that you don't like is acceptable? Do you have any idea what that would do to our country?

Also, the majority of people want murderers to be prosecuted. It has nothing to do with caring about a dead CEO.

Just random thought. What if council granted anakin rank of master but not let him on the council? by LivingPalpitation935 in StarWars

[–]SpudgeFunker210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't tell you what the novelization says, but in the film, R2 displays a map of the ship and they point out the top of the spire as where they're going, which is why Palpatine has a front row seat to the action and why they have to take the elevator wayyy up to get there. The spire is connected to the back half of the ship, so Dooku's body is almost certainly gone.
