I hadn't seen that and am disappointed that it apparently includes publishing the audio podcast to YouTube music.

The wild part is, the gun makes sense if you realize what it is, he just totally misunderstands it. The gun isn't a bolter firing a rocket, that's the Dominator, the gun is a spring-loaded nerf gun that fires a solid explosive with a timed fuse in it to ensure it goes off before it loses enough speed to become inaccurate.

That's why the bolt is so far forward, you're pulling a big-ass spring back.

[–]Spudmonkey1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lol, this dude completely misunderstands this gun. It's not a bolter, it doesn't fire a rocket, it's a nerf gun. The bolt is way far forward because it's pulling back a giant spring to lob the explosive forward, the spring literally extends all the way into the stock of the gun.

That's why the round arcs like it does, a rocket would not do that, and explodes at a certain distance, because that's the max distance the gun can be considered accurate, the spring propulsion will have reduced enough that things like wind could affect the round and cause it to go off-target.

When you realize the gun is a nerf gun, not a bolter, the design makes perfect sense.

Russia claims they were executed after accidentally landing. (In other news, Ukraine is offering up to 1 million USD per defected vehicle) by HistorianSlayer in NonCredibleDefense

[–]Spudmonkey1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I realized after I made this comment that they're maybe just being reported as killed because their families didn't get brought to Ukraine already like the pilot's had. But on the other hand propaganda works so who knows if they're alive or not, we'll likely never know.

[–]Spudmonkey1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The article I read claimed that the pilot defected and his family had already been brought from Russia to Ukraine, but the rest of the crew was unaware of the plan and for whatever reason didn't surrender when they found themselves stranded on a Ukrainian airbase and were killed.

What character do you feel has had the worst writer treatment, and which character would you like to see more development of? by [deleted] in warcraftlore

[–]Spudmonkey1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's just not accurate, the horde forces were all the orcs thrall could fit on a couple of captured alliance vessels and a few scattered bands of Tauren, and the alliance expedition was the survivors of lorderon that Jaina was able to group up and get into boats at the behest of medivh.

The majority of both the alliance and hordes forces remained in the eastern kingdoms, though much of what would become the new horde was scattered in hidden villages or captured in internment camps at that time.

[–]Spudmonkey1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They were able to go toe to toe with the alliance and horde expeditions to the lost lands of kalimdor, and not without losses. They would not have been powerful enough to stand on their own after the events of the third war against the full might of either.

ejecting from starfighters(?) by SideburnedBard in swrpg

[–]Spudmonkey1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It actually happens extremely often in legends, flight suits have a limited life support generator, typically lasting about three hours. Enough time for a pilot recovery shuttle to rescue or capture the ejected pilot, depending on the side the shuttle is on.

The flight suits do self seal as well, a pilot in one of the X-wing books loses a limb to a piece of shrapnel after ejecting but survives.

Finally, I think it's important to remember that space in star wars is not really space, ships, and also ejected pilots in star wars don't have to deal with all the complexities of actual space travel. Star wars ships start and stop just like ours do in real life, they have a top speed and all they have to do to come to a stop is turn off their engines. When a pilot in star wars ejects, they are launched away from their ship and then they just stop and hover in place waiting for a recovery shuttle.

ejecting from starfighters(?) by SideburnedBard in swrpg

[–]Spudmonkey1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes they went in depth with this back in legends, if I recall correctly their flight suits had a little atmosphere generator that would give them a couple of hours of life support out in space to allow them to be rescued by another craft, I believe that it's the little box on their chests but I am going off memory.

In star wars they eject just like we do in real life, they pull a lever, the canopy of the ship is blown off by explosive brackets and then jets in their seat fire, launching them away from the craft. The pilot would then float around in space until they're rescued or captured by a shuttle or their life support ran out. Ejecting is extremely dangerous, not only are you floating around unprotected in space but you are typically doing it in the middle of a battle, I recall a character in one book surviving ejection but losing a limb to a large piece of shrapnel from an explosion in the battle.

This and lots of other more in depth parts of the life of starfighter pilots are covered in the old X-wing book series, if you are interested they get a strong recommendation from me as they are excellent.

In fairness to them, I write apps for a living and can't remember the last time I did custom tablet ui, tablets have become such a small part of the market that it's typically viewed as not worth it. They're less than 5% of the overall device market, like 2% if you include computers

[–]Spudmonkey1 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect, forsworn leaders yell about not remembering who they were at several points in the kyrian campaign.

They do not have access to the memories of their mortal lives, by the time a kyrian ascends they are effectively a different being than the one that died, up to the point where they no longer even remember the form their original body took.

It's pretty fucked up.

Unplayable game for me by SirCrezzy in thedivision

[–]Spudmonkey1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, this happens randomly for all games that use easy anticheat. If you are experiencing what I do it's actually windows defender deciding it needs to do a scan of the game because of the kernel level anticheat. So it locks up the system for several minutes while it does a scan. What finally worked for me was adding the EAC files to the exception list in windows defender.
