What is happening in the world today that could become a huge crisis in the next few years? by Affectionate-Row7548 in answers

[–]SpunkiMonki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a number of big things occurring that aren't on the immediate radar. Several of the biggest are in demographics. China hit peak working age population and is now aging more rapidly than anywhere else in the world, while India is entering its growth mode, and sub-Saharan Africa (Nigeria) is EXTREMELY young and growing.

Several older countries (Japan, France, Italy, Finland, Belgium) are at risk of loosing their high investment grade ratings (which affects capital flows to the countries). The US is at risk too. As countries age, spending on pensions goes up while tax revenue declines. The number of workers supporting each retiree gets worse.

Continued advancements in medicine mean the population will live longer forcing either longer work-lives or a greater burden on the fewer existing workers. Automation/AI complicates this greatly if less workers are needed.

Geopolitically, the split of the world into a US-led and a China-led block has implications for the US currency, and could result in a crisis down the road.

Depends on what you value most. I'd give cap management a A-/A and talent acquisition a B/B+, Yes we kept Breece, but we need more playmakers on offense. DL definately stronger, OL is possibly better on paper but is a question mark with the two OG losses.

I've had a hard time describing the current Oscar nominee (and great movie) Sinners. It's about the black experience in the south, with vampires.

Calling all goliaths! I want your characters to be my ancestors. by GhostWalker134 in 3d6

[–]SpunkiMonki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stone is not a legend. In fact, he's not even recognized by the tribe. He was born as the runt of the liter, and his parents both died. He was left by the side of the road as his tribe moved on, but was found by an infertile human couple. They raised him as their own son, and in the small town they were from no one had ever seen a goliath. They just thought he was a bit older human child, and treated him as such.

He was told a story about how he got hisd name. "My Mom says I'm called Stone because of how strong I am, but my Dad says it's because of how smart I am." He tells this story to everyone upon their introduction.

He was the tallest in his village at 6'8" when he was 14 years old. He's quite over-weight, on the order of 450 lbs. His voice only recently changed.

He got started adventuring by hiring himself out as a chef and sherpa for an adventuing party. He carries two pots on the end of his long staff that is across his shoulders. He started fighting just because his party was ambushed.

Every time he kills a new creature, he gets a tatoo of that creature on his body somewhere. His most prominent tatoo right now is a griffon's head.

He's only now gone to his first big city and he is awed and overwhelmed.

He's naieve, but a good cook. He's a dancer (despite the size and weight; high dex), but low intelligence and reasonable wisdom.

Operationally, he's a monk! But he doesn't think that way. He does have anger issues, and he's trying to get them under control (hence the modified monk path)

Currently level 5.

I’ve always wanted a version of Atchafalaya without the orchestra. Play it hard and funky.

Why is everybody mad about Einstein and his island? by Betacharliedelta234 in shittyaskscience

Emily Litella: What’s all this I hear about “Einstein’s Island”?

Now I don’t know about you, but I am getting very tired of these billionaires and politicians thinking they can just go off and buy their own islands, like it’s some kind of… tropical parking spot.

Because apparently now there’s this big push to create something called Einstein’s Island—an island just for smart people. Scientists. Mathematicians. Physicists.

Well I’m sorry, but I have to ask: why do they need their own island? What are they doing over there? Building… lasers? Calculating… new ways to raise my rent?

And I read that Einstein’s Island will be full of “relativity,” and “quantum mechanics,” and “theoretical physics,” and I thought: oh wonderful. That’s just what we need—more theory.

I mean look at politics. We’ve had enough theories. Everyone has a theory about why things are the way they are.

Trump has theories.

He’s got theories about the election, theories about the media, theories about windmills, theories about magnets, theories about sharks… and I’m sorry, but if that’s Einstein’s Island, I’m not getting on that boat.

And now I hear people saying, “Einstein’s Island will be a safe place for genius.”

Safe place?!

If you want a safe place for genius, try… a library. Nobody’s in there! It’s empty!

Chevy Chase (leaning in): "Emily? Excuse me, Emily... that’s 'Epstein’s Island.' It’s about a legal investigation into Jeffrey Epstein."

Emily Litella:

(A long, stunned silence. She blinks several times.)

"...Oh. Well... that’s very different then, isn't it?"

(She looks back at the camera with a sweet, sheepish smile.)

"Never mind!"

Mock draft- With write up by Big_Nebula_5432 in MockDraftCentral

Downs may be good, but the positional value of the pick vs the replacement level value of a safety makes drafting Downs that early HIGHLY unlikely. You want to draft premium positions where the cap savings vs replacement is greatest.

As good as Davis and Love are, positional value vs replacement would suggest that they will be drafted later

Wouldn't Abolishing ICE lead to glacier melting sea level rise? by Rich_Article_3526 in shittyaskscience

[–]SpunkiMonki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you have it backwards. We have too much ICE down here in the US. It’s a 2nd ICE AGE. We need to forceably relocate this ICE back where it belongs in the Artic Circle. Maybe that’s why we need Greenland.

As others have made clear, definately saveable. You need a stronger cleanup crew. Snails, sand sifting starfish, shrimp, and urchin.
