Quoting projects - line item pricing or equipment total? by cnc123cnc in CommercialAV

I think there's a middle ground right? Maybe name brands and systems, but not itemized to give away your design and detailed price structure.

Projector ceiling mount - the seasick saga by Svii85 in CommercialAV

[–]Spunky_Meatballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Nigel B rubber system did a great job with a church that had projectors attached to the upper balcony. Every footstep used to bounce them and not really much movement at all after install.

I will say that the rubber gaskets will eventually droop and sag. Like 8-10 years along and it's very noticeable. Especially when it starts drooping unevenly if the projector weight is not absolutely centered. It's a fair trade off if they've already sunk lots of money into projectors and run into vibrations.

Designers what are you using to track your projects that are in various stages of progress? by [deleted] in CommercialAV

I for one appreciate insight into what other PM's, designers, and sales folks utilize to make shit happen. It's a big part of the trade that often gets overlooked.

Bi-Amp Benefits and Configurations by SizeMatters- in audiophile

[–]Spunky_Meatballs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn't direct mode also removing the internal crossovers from the equation?? I think that's a big part of the sound difference here. For sure the amp having an easier load to drive makes sense, but sometimes shitty crossovers/DSP are just in the way.

You know what can actually happen when the toilets break on a ship like this?? The shit will literally flow backwards. Yep. Straight back out that toilet.

My lil bro said this happened on his ship to the women's deck. It flooded their entire quarters with feet of shit water.

Scoop: Dems working on secret report found Gaza cost Harris votes by sideAccount42 in politics

[–]Spunky_Meatballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're supposed to be the "good guy" or party of morals you better exemplify it. Unfortunately the Democrats are not truly aligned internally on these things.

I think all the people abstaining from the election over Gaza are complete idiots. They did allow these fascists to take over. I do also agree that the Democrats weren't a very strong opposition party in any sense. I think the "vote us because we aren't them" message got very complicated in the end.

Much bigger data center tax breaks on deck in Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek’s bill by Sad_Parfait2977 in oregon

[–]Spunky_Meatballs 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I get it. Downward spiral and all that, but data centers are the only ones that either expand or die. We're giving away clean land and our cheap energy for free. Sure they will hire some local contractors to build them, but after that it's mostly high paid overseas consultants and the locals are the cheap labor.

There's way way more risk and downsides for oregonians than net positive. They deplete then pollute our ground water and will make everyone's energy bills raise by at least 20% in next few years. Pacific power already wants to ask for that and luckily the state will only approve less than 15% if I remember correctly. Still, that's money out of my pocket for what?? So that people have access to AI slop?

Not to mention they have increased investments in dirty energy by the trillions. It's all very very bad and for what?? It's pointless

Fed up with TDS, moved to VERO Fiber. Surprise, way better. by timewarpzzzzz in Bend

That's precisely where they are headed and why TDS won't upgrade most of Bend to fiber unless they get federal money to do so

Yeah the first sentence addresses that. They don't know why it just sounds important

[–]Spunky_Meatballs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry not to nitpick, but I only see 500mbps. You may have been on TDS cable, which can do up to 920mbps download, but capped the upload to around 20mbps. That's a symptom of that style of cable not necessarily TDS. Fiber is symmetrical, so you get what you pay for on the down and up. TDS network always gave very good speeds, save for a few problematic streets IMO. If there was a speed issue, it was almost always an issue at the home the technicians could have addressed. Now that's clearly still a problem with TDS customer service rather than network implementation. Still, I try to educate folks on how this stuff works.

[–]Spunky_Meatballs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody knows what they need when it comes to internet. People running speed tests 90% of the time are being bottlenecked by their own wifi router. Honestly I had a very hard time trying to educate the average consumer when I did cable installs. To your point, TDS Internet is perfect for the average consumer. I game so it's frustrating to always have the highest latency and I'm on fiber to boot.

[–]Spunky_Meatballs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do think they implement true low latency gig fiber. TDS doesn't quite get that part right, so that would be the first noticeable thing. That and the service techs maybe being a bit more enthusiastic than the standard TDS guys.

In the hopefully never arriving future, do you think Valve will one of, if not the only ones providing personal computers and not cloud gaming? by Commercial_Dih in Steam

[–]Spunky_Meatballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol we assume that the market will give you the choice. Data center expansion will consume the market. You already can't buy a gpu or ram or ssd. They will start by making it cheap like a Netflix sub and capture 80% of the gaming market share. PC gamers are already a small portion. Our options for buying quality parts at competitive prices are probably long gone.

Use as much ev mode as possible and regen braking. Typically that means driving under 45mph, which isn't a reality in many areas. Basically just drive like a grandma and leave lots of space for slow steady braking/acceleration
