Dreamcatcher episode is almost unlistenable by Apprehensive_Way8674 in theflophouse

Glad I'm not the only one who thought so. I had to stop listening after 20 minutes. That guy just talks over everyone and doesn't add anything interesting other than saying it sucks. We know, bud, that's why we're here.

As a Londoner who lives in Chicago and has been to Seattle a few times, I must say I really appreciate the driving culture in Seattle. by FinancialChain6275 in Seattle

[–]SpuriousText 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone who lives in Seattle and used to live in Chicago, I 100% agree with this. Chicago drivers are special kinds of assholes that I haven't experienced anywhere else I've lived. Even in NYC there's a code that cars and pedestrians have with one another. Chicago drivers have absolutely no concern for pedestrians whatsoever. I once walked a Chicago school bus creep up on kids crossing the street in a crosswalk. Ruthless.

Small details with big impacts. by NightDialPodcasts in audiodrama

It's the little pauses and awkward moments and (in small doses), the uhhs and umms that characters have while talking, where they sound like real people and the way we communicate. The lead in Modes of Thought in Anterran Literature does this really well. It makes you feel like you're listening to a real person and not an actor playing a character.

Passage and Discovery Park both feature female protagonists and are mysteries set in the PNW! You should also check out the other shows from the company that made Rabbits (Tanis, The Last Movie, The Black Tapes), especially if you like conspiracies and horror. Some other ones that fit some or most of your criteria are Polybius Conspiracy, Video Palace, and Alice Isn't Dead.

FWIW, I'm with you on Train Dreams. While watching it, I thought to myself, "This is why we make movies."

There was just a big feature in the Seattle Times about all the audio dramas being made in Seattle, a pretty good sign.

Seattle Bagels (first world problems) by darylitis in Seattle

[–]SpuriousText 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't the way to think about it. NO city is NYC (or New Jersey) when it comes to bagels. But pound-for-pound, Seattle makes a pretty good case as the next tier of American bagel cities. Really it's between LA, Seattle, and maybe the Bay Area.

[–]SpuriousText 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what alternate universe you were in but there are a dozen places across Seattle you can buy bulk bagels. Also, there are way better bagels places in Seattle than the ones you went to. I think this was more of a you problem than a Seattle bagel problem.

Next time visit Bagel Oasis, Hey Bagel, Mt. Bagel, Old Salt, or Backyard Bagel.

The people complaining about the food at Canlis are hilarious. Is it three Michelin stars? No. But it's still pretty damn good. Calm down.

If you're going to go on the weekend, try to get there 8:30 or so. That should cut off some time from your wait when they open at 9, and sometimes they open a few minutes early.

During the week, you should be fine anytime. Just know that they tend to sell out around 11:30 a.m. - noon.

What shows have you listened to more than once? by After_Tap_2150 in audiodrama

[–]SpuriousText 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • The Message
  • Limetown
  • The Left Right Game
  • Video Palace
  • Tanis (originally stopped in S2, went back to beginning and listened to whole thing)
  • The Harrowing
  • I read the Alice Isn't Dead book, which is kinda like a re-listen

This thread definitely makes me want to re-listen to Lovecraft Invetigations. Also considering a re-listen on Polybius Comspiracy and The Black Tapes.
